My 2007 Toyota Camry would not go into park. It would go into the park position but would not indicate P on the dash. One video said this can happen if the grommet located at the shifter end of the transmission cable is broken out. This creates slop and the cable will not push far enough forward to engage the lever on the transmission into the park position. After disassembling my console and inspecting my grommet I found it in good condition. It took me a while to determine the problem. It turns out that the transmission cable at the transmission has an adjustment. All you need to do is push the transmission lever into the park position with the shifter in the park position and lift the the rubber boot on the cable. You will find a small button on the assembly. Push the button in while holding the transmission lever in park position and pull on the cable to lengthen the cable as required. I suspect that the cable slipped out of adjustment after repeated use. I plan on putting a small drop of epoxy on the cable entrance to the adjuster to reduce the chance of a repeat since the catch in the adjuster must be worn out.
Hi would the car still be driveable if l were to install it back without connecting back the wiring? Because I want to install this shifter to my automatic 2012 Honda civic it has same linkage.
Mines doesn’t want go into park so I leave it in neutral , the button release that’s next to the gear shift doesn’t even work either , I push it down and it still doesn’t want to go into park. What could it be ?
This is exactly what my TL is doing. Was it spilled drinks? idk but I will say the cup holders are terrible it's like they are made to spill pop into the shifter. I really don't feel like fooling with it, when it does go into park the transmission makes a crunch noise so I'm pretty sure it's about to fail anyways. 🤷♂️
If you guys can fix these tranny issues,I will gladly tip my hat, but in reality it means you need a rebuild or another transmission. I have a 2000 tl base, drive it easy, I'm not worried about fast, I want that puppy to last. The lesson to be learned with Honda and Acuras, doesn't matter what year, what model is you want a stick. Then it would be bulletproof.
Do you ever use your parking brake? If not your abusing the car, the pin isn't meant to support the weight of the car on an incline. Even if you think it's level, chances are when you put it in park, it's gonna roll forward or backwards, just enough to strain that pin. I bet 95% of driver's don't use the parking brake and your asking for problems.

This is helpful, thank you. I have the same problem with my 1996 TL. The prior owner must have spilled something. I'll have to give this a try.
Very Helpful, Thanks for filming.
