Staff Always Get Away With It

  • I know things happen no matter where you live or your situation, but I specifically am talking about how some staff at group homes, residential schools, assisted living etc use their power to hurt the people that live there. They rarely get caught or in trouble. If they do get fired they just go to a new place and hurt people there.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, unfortunately I can relate. I remember when I was in hospital and staff were mistreating me, they said no one would believe me because I was the one with the diagnosis 😔 this really shouldn't be happening in this day and age, it's so unbelievably wrong that there is still this mistreatment and they're getting away with it 💔

😢so SORRY. I totally hear you. I feel and see this kind of stuff all the time. People get away with it. And it's nothing but scary for us. Did anyone get back to you and say thank you for trying to warn us did the police come back to you and now respond and believe you.. I know we're supposed to always push it under the rug we're supposed to always be positive we're supposed to always be not heard correctly and it's supposed to be okay over and over when we've explained I'm not even in your bad situation and I'm feeling for you. By the way doing things like the music thing loud that's a form of torture and she knew you had to be in the car so in a way that was a confinement torture and I know it should be nothing I get it it should be nothing to be working for the person you're working for to try to protect why not just be really proud and helpful and do a really great job because you're a human

Yes you live in a situation with staff but they shouldn’t have so much power to discipline you. Jen don’t quit! That’s what they want. I’m on the spectrum and only got diagnoses at age 46. I’m also a nurse and I witnessed a co worker who was on the spectrum get sabotaged and bullied. I was the safety officer and reported it to the union. Outcome: he lost his job and I was made a scapegoat for their behaviour. I switched to another ward in medicine(can you believe this happened in psychiatry???!!!). Long story short, I work with amazing staff and a boss that I can’t begin to describe how wonderful she is. She is aware of my diagnoses (autism level 1 and ADHD). She has 0 tolerance for any form of bullying or discrimination and the slightest that happened is dealt with swiftly. Long story short, it was the worst time in my life before but now it’s so much better. I’m sure we’re going to face more of it but you know what??? Those people are ignorant and let’s show them what we’re all capable of!!!!!! We got your back sister! I also responded to a comment by another amazing viewer regarding a property and a cabin. Like I said to her, if this becomes a plan, count me in to contribute any way I can. ❤❤❤❤

Jen, keep speaking up. You have a voice and you can speak eloquently and I know from the things you have said about the school you were in, you need to keep speaking up and fight, mostly for yourself but also for the residents there and residents of other places... Those who don't know how to use their voices to speak up and stand up. Please don't take this video down. It is vital to have these things documented and public.
My 38 year old son spent all of his schooling in various places in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and went through much of the same things that have happened to you. Sadly he too was not heard, but now he is being heard and listened to. It may not change what is happening but it will help you and others to understand what you want to see change.
If the supervisor does not support you, then you need to go ahead of the supervisor, and your family and friends need to back you up. Keep speaking your truth, speak it loudly and make the differences that you have already done.
Please know that you are loved and supported and most importantly believed.

I’m so sorry Jennifer, I was in a group home as a youth. One of the staff members was always picking on me because I was a bigger girl. She would tell me that I wasn’t allowed to talk unless I went to a gym. There were 15 other girls in the home but all were too afraid to speak up because what if they were then next. I got really sick and ended up having my appendix removed and when I finally got out of the hospital she was on duty of course. I still wasn’t moving very fast but as she was making fun of me so much that I just wanted to get away from her. I went upstairs and was going to listen to music when I discovered that someone had scratched ‘b*tch’ in every cd (i was a 90’s teen’) I owned. I heard her coming up the stairs so I just sat on my bed crying. When she was almost at my door I got up to just close the door and I guess she thought I was going to attack her so she ran back down the hallway to where the stairs were. I heard a crash and bang so I went to go see and by the time I got there she was at the bottom of the stairs. She called the police and told them I had pushed her down the stairs and that she wanted to press charges. Her arm was very visibly broken so they arrested me and took me to juvenile detention even though I had not pushed her at all in fact I wasn’t even there when she fell. I spent a week there until some of the kids finally came forward and told the truth about what happened as well as how she had been treating me. She got fired but that was it. She probably just went to a different care home and mistreated someone else.
Not enough is done to protect the truly vulnerable. Good for you for speaking up. Don’t take this down. Rock the boat for those that can’t.

I am proud of you for speaking up. It is rampant and you are not alone. When I could work and was a care supervisor, I told my staff and residents to report anything that wasn’t right and passed out the numbers for adult protective services and the state ombudsman here frequently. I told them that even if it’s me doing something wrong, turn it in. It’s hard because of everything you described happening and nothing changes most of the time. You deserve better. I’m so sorry this happened to you. Keep documenting and do what you can to find a safe living situation. 🖖🏻

I am so very proud of you for speaking up especially when it’s hard. I pray that it doesn’t bring you further punishment or pain. You are an adult with so much talent to share with the world. It’s awful you were not permitted to attend YOUR play. Please don’t give up on seeking out things that bring you joy and also bring joy to others when you share them. You have MUCH to give and to teach the world. Please continue to let your light shine.

It’s a state law for Ada. and they have to provide u staff and you have your own rights like every one else. You keep advocating for you self I know it’s hard I do it every day I’m a a advocate/mentor/leader for in the disability community. Hi jen. That's disgusting behavior. Your living with support and get treated like that. Out of order . I feel for you. I live in the UK in residential and I get treated poorly . And the staff always get away with it. And I get the blame alot like you. It angers me how they think they can do this. Missing your play , u were really looking forward to it . But cause of staff attitudes ASD residents are the target. I have ASD myself and know how me and you can be picked on . And I'm 41 years old. And it ever gets easier. They still pick on you.
All I can say is I'm thinking of u , I can relate to you , and I believe you . Thankyou for expressing yourself cause abuse like that needs to be brought up.
Well done jen. Hope things get better. And sorry u had to go through that
Take care. And I'll look forward to seeing another one of your videos .

Keep strong, the biggest "danger" to those people is light and exposure. So i find it really brave you made this video. The biggest evil in this world is for good people to do nothing and look away. YOU DIDNT LOOK AWAY!!!! I was able to see this and tell you from across the ocean you are a brave woman. I hope you will stand proud in the face of those who are mean to you. I am a strong believer of Karma. Sometimes it seems they get away with it, but they will be victim to their own wrongdoings by their own hand. In the end it will bite them in the a**.
Dont give up, stay strong. You have people who love you. i cant get you to your play, if i lived in your neigbourhood i would have been volunteering to drive you. But yeah, i live in the Netherlands so i cant.
The strange thing is why arent you allowed to go to your play? Or where the people who got caught not the ones doing the loud noises. Next time i would record what she did. I dont know why staff gets to be believed. The supervizer knows you, and why would she believe some staffer? This meanstreak should be visible always. It's a character trait. I just dont get it. (Or is this a different supervizer than shown in earlier vids)
I worked as a staffer in group homes. I can't imagine why you would hurt the people you need to care for. I understand that in some cases where people are a danger to them selves and others you sometimes have to be more forcefull. But still you dont go and start to pull someones hair. And you dont go trash the place someone is living in and destroy their stuff. That is illegal.
You use tought techniques to controle, not to hurt. Hurting has the opposite effect. Or maybe we are a lot strickter in who we accept in certain jobs here in the Netherlands. We have to offer a certificate from the gemeente ( i think that municipality is the closest thing that you would have in the states.) that you never have had a formal complaint, or being arrested. If you cant get it, then you wont get the job. The translation of the thing is litteraly a Certificate of good behavior.
I dont understand why people always need to have to prove that they are stronger, better, meaner than others are. And why they need to show that they have power over you when if it's not called for.
This is a video, and i dont know the "jennifer" when you are not on camera. But i cant imagine that there would be a huge difference in character between public Jennifer and privat Jennifer. As far I can make a judgement, i would say you are a friendly, polite and decent woman who doesnt lie.
So why the "BEEP" would you do what they say you did if you have never done it before. (I refer to the driver who told that you jumped out of a car and went to sit on the road.) I really, really dont get it. Again, stay strong, brave and loving. I know you can.

Thank-you from the bottom of my heart really. I was 46 when I got my diagnosis and I’m a therapist and nurse. The few who know about my diagnosis don’t even believe I have it. This is real unfortunately and it disgusts me. It’s called a spectrum for a reason. Even though I am on the part of the spectrum that’s high functioning, I still consider everyone, regardless of where they are on the spectrum, my family. Your genuine act of kindness, not out of any pity or charity, but out of the pure fact that you know this human being for the amazing person she is to counteract the discrimination, bullying and abuse by ignorant people who know they can get away with it. Thank-you🙏 I live in Europe, but if this goes ahead, please let us know as I will 100% contribute somehow, be it furniture, appliances, utilities, etc. really. ❤
