I just drilled 2 holes at each pivot point & looped a small tie wrap through for the hinge pins to ride on. Holding for 8 yrs now.

Why did you have to cut a corner of the retaining clip?

The nut from this hinge take the space from the clip. if you cut the corner it will not affecting stability like original
