- While the price might be low when you try to buy a used BMW, there are a number of reasons. I'm going to share those reasons with you here today so that you don't get caught off guard when buying a new BMW or a used BMW. These problems or issues with BMWs could land you in a big loss when it comes to money, and I just don't want to see that.

I took mine to the dealership 3 times knowing what I was getting done. And they still told me I had to pay for the diagnostic all times. I finally found a mechanic that willing to work on it lol
Every time I get a desire for a used BMW I watch one of your videos like this.
Thank you
He gives you the reality check..🤔
@@charlesjackson1700 He sure does.
@@ECPP which is why a reliable Japanese car is my next ride purchase. No more German cars unless it is a Porsche 911!
To be honest it is not just BMW but also Mercedes, VW and Audi that have many expensive reliability issues in their cars. Germans are not making reliable cars anymore. Sad.
Well I would say my Vw is very reliable, TDI 500k these things last for ever if u treat it right.
But it’s very heavy maintenance type of car
Don’t skip timing belt/timing chains oil changes fuel filters and transmission services.
They drive like an champ.
BMW well they suck lol I never seen 1 with over 250k if that all original everything
Audi is better than an bmw imo 🤷🏾♂️
Cheers
Has BMW ever done reliable engines? Now I mean engines that last, as an average, more than 500,000 km?
As I see it many(!?) of their engines last 150-200,000 km that means the "lifetime" of car.
In Finland where people drive quite a lot, and where all costs related to car ownership is quite high, Toyota is the clear market leader. The first Toyota was imported, I think, 1966 or 1967. Datsun/Nissan though already 1961.
Now the Toyota WRC rally team has its HQ in Finland. (So it's not just hockey in Finland!)
@@leiflillandt1488 It's pretty rare for any car to reach 500,000km... I'd say over 250,000km is a good run...
BMW's most reliable engine is any 6 cylinder without a turbo
@@MartinJones123 without a turbo :( sad
Let's be honest, the E92 looks awesome, style-wise you can't find too many faults in that design language.
I do agree. It’s very clean and that’s why I bought my e92 335 as a clean simpler version of that m3
E92 will always be a classic look. Example E30 some styles never get old
BMWs look better when they look simpler to me, the new 2023s are hideous abominations of corners and angles, simpler looks more elegant and understated
@@oolavitzoo You are right, although I totally dig the flame surfacing Bangle era 6 Series coupe (E63, LCI).
Yeah, idk if it's the body shape, but the design of the E92 is actually wayyyy better, just agree with the video it just looks outdated.
I survived the school of hard knocks - too many years of audi ownership. Finally had enough and transitioned the wasteful payments and repair bills into college savings funds for 2 daughters.
Looking back, that $600 per month (nothing compared to current outlays) grew to nearly $100k per kid.
Even better, I discovered I can still have luxury - long lasting even, albeit without screaming performance, driving a Lexus!
Increasingly, OEMs are treating customers as human ATMs. IMO, BMW is one of the worse offenders. At best, they are a lease-only car, if one has money to burn.
At one point, I seriously considered the purchase of a 7 Series. The drive was fantastic and I loved the interior. However, after careful research, I didn't want to dive into its money pit abis, post manufacturer warranty.
A few years ago, I wanted to step into a nearly new, second hand five series. I noticed there was a considerable difference between the prices of private sellers, and the BMW dealers. I chose to go with the dealer, and I specified a two year old car with remaining factory warranty, as well as color and model choice. I also specified that I wanted a car free of scratches, dings and dents, worn carpets etc etc. That's a pretty tall order but they called a few days later with the right car, a tuxedo-black F10 535i with X Drive and the M Sport package, in showroom condition. That was five years ago, and the only problem was an oil leak at the oil filter housing, which BMW's are famous for.
You are right and on warranty they are amazing, but outside of warranty, it starts to burn the wallet. That’s sort of most peoples experience. With that said, if a person is a solid DIYer they can still be somewhat fun to drive. Gets worse with age sadly.
They save so much money by using plastic! They charge their customers for the latest & greatest technology & performance, but not for longevity
If you're able and willing to do your own work and avoid the dealer like the plague, you can have a nice ride for a somewhat reasonable price.
I saw a Mercedes SUV that still had the new dealer temporary license plate on it being cranked onto a flatbed truck today. You imagine you’re that person who just bought a Mercedes SUV you maybe had it for two weeks and it’s already being flatbeded back to the dealership. What a joke.
Just sold my 2009 e93 335i 2 weeks ago and bought a used 2014 Tesla Model S. The BMW was 3 years of a love hate relationship. I searched coast to coast to find a clean, well cared for example and found 1 about 1k miles away from me in Florida. 78k miles on it. Clean carfax. Serviced @ BMW it's entire life. Index 12 injectors.....check. High pressure fuel pump replaced.....check. Waste gate rattle from the twin turbos worried me and this car had the turbos replaced by BMW @ 55k miles.....check. Had a PPI done and the only issue found was a leaking control arm bushing and I was installing the M3 control arms with solid bushings instead of the liquid filled bushings of the 335i arms.....not a problem at all so I bought it! Tuned it to the max with MHD, full bolt ons and the car was an IMMENSE amount of fun. But all of the little things began to add up over time. The car was parked for the winters and I put about 22k miles on it in 3 years. In 22k miles I replaced the waterpump and thermostat (which were replaced before I bought the car and only lasted 20k miles)....the camshaft position sensor.....the battery.....the ROC sensor (specific to the convertible, controls the pop up roll bars in case of a roll over), the oil filter housing gasket, oil cooler gasket, and that's just what I can recall off hand! Each and every repair was quoted @ $1k minimum at the dealer. I was able to fix them all myself for WAY cheaper. But I was under that clean, well cared for example a ton! When they're right they are PERFECT. But KEEPING them right is an exercise in futility. I have a 1995 Lexus LS400 with 150k miles on it and it's clean as a whistle. By comparison that car has required ZERO. Love BMW's.....grew up with them as my dad had a Dinan tuned 1993 735i and my mom had the beastly 1994 750il with the v12. But never again for me......I will love them from afar!!!
The ultimate money eating machine. Plastic here, plastic there, plastic everywhere! In the US the average cost for service is $400.00 every 10,000 miles. A major service can cost $1,000 to $3,000 or more. The $3,000 service is a bargain, which includes checking your horn and measuring tire thread depth. But you have to have a coupon!
Haha, you got it. Cheets
BMW= Break My Wallet.
BMW=Big Money Waster.

Thanks for sharing your hard-earned,very valuable advice ! I look forward to all your new videos.🌞

Very cool retro shades. As always, interesting video and good sense of humor. This is one of my favorite channels.
Much appreciated! Thank you very much for the support.
Great video, Mark. Fantastic to see your channel growing. Subscriber numbers shooting up, lots of comments. Well done.
Word of warning, if you have an older BMW and you take it in for recall work (aka free stuff) expect to leave with "quotes" for expensive repairs. I've only been to the dealer twice in my life, both times my vehicle had issues mysteriously pop up within 24hrs. I love BMW's but hate the company. O yeah, the plastic crap under the hood breaking as it ages is a real issue.
Thank you for sharing. Yes if you can DIY then that’s the win.
I love your pithy, brevity focused, presentation, with nothing lost on fundamental points. You are a gem, man.
Recently bought my E70 X5 after watching your videos, knowing full well what I'm letting myself in for! Dynamically, the E series just offers an honest driving experience. That being said, the material choices in BMW irritates the inner materials engineer in me. They know exactly what they're doing with planned obsolescence and like you said, 3rd and 4th owners will definitely know what they're in for, but thank the internet we have guys like you Mark!
That being said, car enthusiasts will always be car enthusiasts and I also believe that anything pre Euro means that you stand a chance to doing most of the maintenance at home.
I've got an F60 countryman of a similar vintage, so I know full how much sensors cost on these things. £2500 spent on camchain, clutch and DMFW and harmonic crankshaft balancer including labour, so BMW tax does indeed exist, albeit for a humble 1.6 diesel mini.
Thank you very much for the comment and yes, they are great drivers but the materials and engineering do leave you scratching your head at times. Learning the DIY game is really the only game to keep these reasonable.
I’ve got an 03 e39 and my girl just got a 19 IS300 and it’s crazy looking at the newer Bimmers compared to the newer Lexus… it’s like Yo huh?? Appreciate this video so much!!! Being a Die-Hard Bimmer fan might have to switch up on that.
I am surprised how you never get chased by salesman on this car lots :) Love your videos, very entertaining! Keep rolling :)
Thanks so much. I have many friends in low places.
Bmw like it or not had one 328i f30
Loved it but after 60,000miles
Every single part to break, not the motor, but literally will be asking for money every 2 to 3 mouths, check engine light
Drove well, fixed every single thing but let it go, because was tired of throwing money at it, and had my personal mecanic cost way less than dealership
That pretty much summarized most ownership experiences. When it’s good it’s great and when it’s not, look out.
Here you go. Perfect example of why BMW’s are empty money pits after 50k miles and/or 5 years old !
Never buy one after these time and mileage limits. LEASE new and return it under warranty within 3 years
Always say LEASE German BUY Japanese !! My 2002 LEXUS ES300 Is in amazing condition is one of the most reliable dependable cars on the road today!
As Scotty Kilmer would say:
"Plastic crap"
Right?
BMW takes a lot of abuse, especially from me, as my BMW is an indescribable disaster. Worst built car in history, period. But it’s my fault for not understanding these cars are built to be leased, never owned. 80% are leased, by people who were smarter than me.
The idea is to get the cars off the used market as quickly and expensively (=massive profits) as possible to make room for a new lease. It’s SUPPOSED to die completely and catastrophically, immediately after the lease period/warranty. Shame on owners for living in the past. Let BMW dispose of it.
Thanks for sharing and yes, I have been learning the ways the hard way too.
Lol “Large Luxury Yacht” Thank you for sharing this update. Unsettling in today’s vehicle industry. ✌️🇨🇦

Well done. All this makes me think BMW really means, "Breaking My Wallet" especially if you have an older car. True quality and reliability is engineered. Honda and Toyota know this which is why those cars hold their value in the secondary market.
Me knows better but it’s not in the business model in my opinion
@@ECPP You hit the nail on the head. BMW does this because this is how BMW makes money. Rather than expecting BMW to change, people need to educate themselves on how BMW operates so they know what they are getting into. I have which is why I choose to buy a Honda and Toyota. The Supra is a special case for various reasons but my Honda Civic Type R offers driving thrills on par and surpassing many BMWs for less money new, I got mine at MSRP, and it will continue running in the years to come.
Fabulous Info! Thanks!

Great video. I just recently purchased a 2017 X3. Service records throughout, so hoping for the best. Found that it was 4-5 K less than Acuras/Lexus of similar age and mileage so I figure the higher maintenance costs are baked into the cost.
That lower cost is often due to customer fear so a resell is a little more difficult. Could still be a great buy and also depends on which engine configuration you have.
@@ECPP thanks for the comment. It's the Xdrive28 with the N20 engine in it's last year. When getting a used car I usually try and get near the end of a generation, in hopes that most of the issues have been worked out. We will see. I liken a BMW owner and BMW as being in a abusive relationship. It's almost codependent on the reliability and financial abuse owners are subjected to, yet they refuse to leave the offender. Would make a great thesis case study in college.
If I were rich and loved BMW I'd just lease the best new model every 3 yrs and not worry about the warranty/maintenance.
planning to finance a 2010 323i with 100,000km on it. Is that more reliable than the other bimmers?
Mark - with a metro population of over 4 million, there is no dealer with this many BMW's to sample in the Phoenix metro. Where you're at in Canada appears to be BMW heaven.
Owned 4 BMW's in my lifetime so far and let me let you newer folks know, 60k is the danger zone. lol. Yes, even if you maintain them as best as you can.
yes, 60K miles and then 120K miles are both big check stops
ALL cars are depreciating asset. Take public transportation/uber/taxi then. If you can't afford luxury stuff, just don't buy it. Simple. I buy BMW cuz I love the drive and can afford it. I also have toyota as well but serve different purpose. When I drove a bmw, it puts smile in your face while driving a toyota only gets you from point A to B, even lexus won't get you that feeling and happiness driving experience bmw gave you.
Luxury cars, especially the used ones seem to attract many buyers who really can't afford the cars or the cost of repairing "what might go wrong" so, in turn, they criticize the brand. I've been in the auto repair business for 52 years, and I have yet to see the "perfect car" although some are better than others.
Thanks for your comment and yes, if money is no issue then go ahead. As you say having a reliable daily is great and a BMW for those spec drives is great, so the wear and tear is not so much a factor. Also agree BMW has an unparalleled drive experience, only question is at what cost?
Repair will cost more, but just don't stupidly go to dealership for repair, find a mechanic from bmw local club member recommends, they can troubleshoot the problem quicker and charge a lot less since they work on those everyday, don't just take to a toyota mechanic. And toyota is not cheap either, my prius gen3 had a blown head gasket at 167k, a pretty known issue design flaw from toyota . if i take to dealer will cost me 3-6k( depends if they replace the gasket or force you to replace the engine). I took to a private mechanic that works for toyota, used toyota parts and he did it for me for 800. Anytime you go to dealership you'll get scam
2018 330i , with 86,000 overheated, cracked the plastic oil filter housing, changed water pump first until the crack was found after all the water ran out on a 45 degree day!! Found the culprit, closed thermostat!! All three parts (genuine OEM) over $1100!! While car was in service mode, a wrench hit the alternator- fried the main DME (main computer) $2500 repair!! Car is fun to drive but not as fun as my Mini Cooper, both have the BMW flaw of no water temperature gauge!! Add one as soon as you purchase either of these cars!!
I’m the second owner of this previous lease vehicle with an excellent car fax with all maintenance performed at the dealer every 7000 miles, including brake pads replaced - after this experience, I’m buying a brand new electric Mini Cooper - I am finished with the German car combustion engine issues!!

@Exotic Car: Can you do a video on pre-purchase inspection for high-end used cars?
I sure can. Last year I did a general PPI video but can create a more specific angle for sure.
Great job Mark I have a cousin who bragged over how cheap they got a BMW on a used car lot I told my mom when she told me this that it was a big mistake those cars give a lot of problems sure enough one week later they regret it their decision major repairs.
A person finds out pretty quickly
Another comment. I bought a 2015 335xi, N55, at Carmax several years. Bought a 5 year warranty. So far only the (expected) vanos valve replacement (but under warranty). I go to a great, reasonably priced, competent mechanic. The parts are still expensive. The staff at my nearby dealership (in Rockville, MD) are rude. It's just a factory environment. My problem is repeated damage to my wheels and front suspension, and destroyed eun flats (approximately $200 each) to poorly maintained roads. I drive in Vermont in winter so that doesn’t help. Only at 82K miles. Like the car but after watching your videos. I go regularly for my maintenance. BTW, BMW dealerships in smaller urban areas, e.g. Burlington VT and Albany NY seem to have nicer staff. Anyway, I like my 335xi but worry.
Great comment and thanks for sharing. And here I thought we were the only ones with brutal roads, lol. Yes young should always trust and like the service shop that works on your car.
I was just having this conversation with my salesman yesterday. I live around the corner from BMW of Rockville and I ended up traveling back to BMW of Annapolis for service. The Rockville team is a mess! Annapolis is far, but their service is top notch. I won’t go anywhere else.
If you are still in Rockville, try an independent car shop, like S2 Dynamics which I like; serviced 2 M3s and a 3series there with good experience.
Drive slowly and cautiously and it should last a while.
Should we stay away from new engine even B58 ? Especially with 2022 540i xdrive ?
From what I have seen so far, the B58 and B48 engines have made a step change improvement on both reliability and performance over the older 6 and 4 cylinder engines from BMW. I am actually producing a video on that exact engine coming soon. There may still be Copland and oil leaking issues, with time, but so far so good.
Those sunglasses are a bit, um, large 😎

Hi, how do volvo compare to bmw cars.?can you do a video on volvo thinking of getting the xc40.👍
The slogans all have a hook:
BMW: "The Ultimate Driving Machine."
Mercedes: "The Best or Nothing."
Audi: "Truth in Engineering."
Also Audi: "Your Journey. Our Passion."
Maserati: "Luxury, sports, and style cast into exclusive cars." (this has to be the most cringy untrue high-brow slogan ever).
Jaguar: "The Art of Performance."
Infiniti: "New Horizons - Inspired Performance."
Lexus: "The Pursuit of Perfection," later "Experience Excellence."
What they should be:
BMW: "It could always be worse."
Mercedes: "Styling so good, she'll just assume that you own the repair shop that it's always parked in."
Audi: "You still owe us for that better-built sedan that we sold you in 1988."
Maserati: "Brought to you by Fiat-Chrysler, so you know how reliable we are 🤫."
Jaguar: "We make every electrical wire the same color to pass the savings on to you."
Infiniti: "Datsun? Nissan? Come again?
Lexus: "Don't worry about the warranty, you won't be needing it."
General Motors slogan used to be" Mark of Excellence"
Can you believe that ? 😂

Own an 02 540i M sport. Love this car but have paid half the original price over 20yrs for maintenance. Bought out my 2018 340i lease since Toyota copied much of it for the Supra.
I have a 2005 320i that I use for winter driving. Going on 300,000 kms yet it still drives beautifully, and as long as id serves me, I'll spend whatever it takes to keep it on the road, as a few hundred dollars every other year is not much, compared to buying another car.

The Diesel BMW's we have in Europe are usually quite reliable though. The 320d with it's 163hp was a nice car with only the subframe bushings the main maintenance point........

I need help!!! I’m thinking about buying a 2018 320i. It has approximately 93000 km on it, no accidents and 2 previous owners. Price tag is roughly $31,000. Is this a good idea? I’ve watched several of your videos on BMWs and they are extremely informative. Are the engines in this model reliable provided that I keep up with the maintenance and servicing on a regular basis ( every 5,000 km )?
These newer modular style engines are much better than the outgoing n20 and others from the same Gen. I would just caution because still virtually all BMWs start to need more cooling system maintenance once you start rolling into 100,000-140,000 kms

I think the E46 and E9X generally have a much better interior than the F30, sat in all of them and the F30 just feels really cheap and nasty...
Interesting, I found the E90 interior to feel dated. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I gotta say though, the F30's cupholder game is on point. I never understood why BMW used to make flimsy complicated cupholders that felt like an afterthought.
@@175dell I agree, the E9X interior does look dated (and has it's quirks) when compared to the F30... But the E9X feels better quality overall as opposed to the creaky F30... E9X any day for me...

BMW does a lot of stupid things, in the 90s they made the wiring for their cars biodegradable, which makes those cars almost un-buyable today.
Sadly many cars including Honda are using Soy and mice are chewing theM up.
Your cost estimate on rod bearings for the E9x M3 is way off. Its around 2500 parts and labor, not 5-8k.
Now I know why I keep driving my 1990 E34 525i with 302,000 miles on it.

That black AMG c63's front end looks very menacing. I would be intimidated if I see that in my rear view mirror 😱.
Does the BMW X6 xDrive35i have a good engine ?
The n55 single turbo 6 is decent and much better than the n54 twin turbo before it. It does need maintenance and it is not really cheap to run, but it’s solid.
those plastics under the hood will be cheaper to replace with parts made from gold than with bmw genuine plastic parts 😅
I own and M4 competition 2021 and a CLA 45 amg 2020. I get the CLA brand new the M4 competition with 7 month (4000 miles). I paid almost the same price for both cars when actually are a different levels. My CLA is having big issues, is losing coolant since the 1st day but mercedes can't find where is leak. They replace 4 times my coolant system but still the same. Last week a bring bought cars for an inspection ( CLA the inspection for the two years M4 to make sure everything was good) the price for BMW was $245 the price for mercedes $891... Who buy a German car needs to understand that this cars have a lot of maintenance if you are not willing to do it properly, don't buy one. I'm from Europe and there the parts are much cheaper than here and you also have more mechanics that can touch the car ( I feel like in America they replace everything instead of fixing).
doesn't this go for all brands?
I have a bmw graveyard 😂 😂 X3 can’t pass CA emissions smog without pouring the amount of a down payment for another bmw. So it sits. The in-line 6 325i 2 did well 220k highway miles before all the plastic dryer and cracked .. the 328i is f30 110k is doing ok so far but not really driving anymore. All the cars are free of exterior paint fade door dings etc . I would love to pick up a F80 2017/2018, anyway u can do a video on the f80 vs 997.2 Porsche my other option as far reliability.
I hear you, some typical experiences that many owners wind up experiencing as eventually things end up being a little unreasonable to pour money any more. As far as the 997 vs an f80 goes I can certainly do that, but in short, a Porsche 911 always sits higher than most in terms of the drive, and overall pecking order.
Age poorly ? Hell No that’s Honda, Toyota, Ford , Dodge , Audi , Mercedes. Older BMW’s have much better curb appeal

Never buy a late BMW ever again total crap I had an X6 never again car of your dreams that turned out to be a nightmare
Totally right James. We dream of what ownership feels like then we buy it and realize the cold, hard, devastating reality that is known as the Ultimate Driving Machine
IMO Mercedes Benz is just as cheap if not worse. We recently purchased a 2021 C300 Coupe with AMG trim. Only 2100 miles and the interior rattles in the most annoying way. The service advisor says this is common. He even took us for a ride in a new $100K AMG GT 43 Coupe to prove his point. WTF? We also own a 2022 BMW 430i with Premium and M packages and we have a very quiet car with no rattles or creaks. This BMW is 1/2 the price of the 2022 AMG GT 43 Coupe
Great points and my recent review that I did on a 2018 c300 and I found similar things with cosmetic concerns like the door speaker falling into the door and the exterior rocker panel popping slightly loose and had to go back to dealer to re fasten.
Watching your videos makes me regret my purchase of my BMW X5 40i. I bought it after driving it and its competitors and multiple videos including yours that vouched for its reliability. As soon as more manufacturers move toward electrification I will jump on it first chance I get. I’m tired of dealing with ICE cars even though I’m an engineer myself. I love the simplicity and reliability of electric drivetrains. If Tesla can get their damn panel gaps to be even and improve their quality control (probably never) maybe I could switch faster.
Sorry I had a bad experience with bmws, if u don’t enjoy those types of cars I would definitely go for electric. Check out the bmw electric cars. They’re interior is sturdier and nicer than a Tesla.
These vids always remind me why it’s better to buy Japanese or Korean. Sure they don’t have the “prestige” but they sure will give you your money’s worth.
Nice
Just regular maintenance on a bmw is way to expensive. My M4 brakes were 4K. My Lexus ISF $500. My Honda Accord $485. Lexus has 160k miles. It’s only been brakes and battery. Lexus replaced my dash and 4 doors free after 8 years. Lexus 168k miles. The Honda has 200k miles. Still on original spark plugs. Went through 5 batteries and brakes. Had the coldest ac of any car I have ever owned. The bmw 30k miles. Always in the shop now because it’s older but has low miles.

Is the 2018 x3m40 good? (B58 with zf transmission)
B58s are starting to blow up now. So no.
@@iAlwaysSpeakTheTruth really? I thought they were quite good? Our since 2016 right?
@@Luminary2024 Once these newer BMWs start racking up miles and aging, they start to show their problems. B58 overall is reliable but as time goes on we are starting to see its weak points, leading to total engine failure.
How about competition, does Audi, Benz and Lexus use that much plastic materials in their engines as BMW ?
Yes, all manufacturers use plastics in engine bay
E60 lci is ok.only bugged with oil leaks and battery drain issue
Ouch
Hey, you've put me off BMW's for life!!!
Well done, you've also saved me loads of cash!!
Haha, you are welcome.
Yeah I still love BMW!
I think you are paying for the thrilling driving experience! I have owned many and only the charge pipe on the turbo blew? But my fault 108 degrees and I got on it!
I fixed it .. cheap and easy
Thanks for sharing and yes, they are great to drive.
Yes that one was 2012 335is
I regret getting rid of it?
But I had to have the 22 X3M 40i
I will say if my wife drives the BMW
It will probably last as long as a Toyota
Hey, I figured out why I hate the new BMW grilles! Have you ever watched Red Dwarf (an old British space comedy)? Look up Duane Dibbley and you'll never be able to take that design feature seriously again!
Haha, great analogy.
There's a reason why Toyota's and Honda's keep their value. While BMW's don't.
Toyota and Honda don’t have much value to begin with. They are just transports taking you from A to B.
@@arboghast8505 Lol
Honest to God if I had a BMW dealership I will not allow you come anywhere close to it.
Thanks
Great job on the video. I still think BMW are poorly designed & engineered, too many plastic parts on engines. Lexus all the way!
Thanks for sharing and yes I would say they are engineered in such a way to keep the pipeline of cash flowing to the service shop. Just my 2 cents
@@ECPP I think so too, but they are hurting themselves.
Will German electric cars be more trouble-free? It seems the engine is the usual problematic area for these cars.
I would like to think so but time will tell
Yes they’re waaay better with electric powertrain aka bmw I division. I have a i3 & a i8 best car decisions of my life so far😌🙏
@@mannienicholas3693 good to know. Too bad the iX1 may not come to Canada.
My wife and I could save a fortune going for that instead of a Macan EV lol
@@flashsushi1843 exactly. I didnt know they had a iX1
@@mannienicholas3693 just unveiled last month. Not the best looking but decent enough. :)
Using lots of Plastic parts has been BMW’s tactics all along so after 4-5 years these owners would buy new BMW cars !!!! They forgot something that high service costs will definitely make them think twice about buying new BMW cars again ! It’s about time for BMW to revisit their philosophy about plastics !
Absolutely. Let’s back to basics and build something we can all feel proud to own and are not buried by replacing Fischer price parts.
I can service and fix my own BMW. BMW’s are the most easiest cars to fix because they use an inline engine. Also, there are companies that offer warranty for USED CARS. BMW are great cars
If you can do all your own work, yes, then it’s not so bad. All the benefits and few of the drawbaxks
@@ECPPThe plastics are replaceable with after market parts which are better in quality and design. Therefore making the parts around the engine reliable. The engines are reliable as they are but a few tweaks on it wouldn’t hurt.
If they’re engines weren’t reliable Toyota would not have the B58 engine in the new Supra
Some of the heating issues BMW’s have are due to the turbo. Remove the turbo and problem solved. I believe that’s for the older models.
And suggestions on great warranty companies for bmws?
Weird. My used F30 335d runs like a dream and isn"t expensive to own or service. Maybe steer clear of full fat M cars.
Thanks for sharing. How many miles did you have?
BMW’s are empty money pits after 50k miles and/or 5 years old !
Never buy one after these time and/or mileage limits. LEASE new and return it under warranty within 3 years
Always say LEASE German BUY Japanese !!
My 2002 LEXUS ES300 Is in amazing condition at 170k miles and it’s is one of the most reliable dependable cars on the road today!
That is certainly the most cost effective summary to the BMW ownership experience.
@@ECPP thanks ! I learned the hard way which I’ve shared before on this channel and Scotty Kilmers.
In 2018 I bought a used 2013 X5 with about 94k miles. The exterior and interior were in flawless condition BUT Within 8 LONG months I dumped nearly $2,500 into it for leaking Rear differential, frozen door lock (bad actuator) and front suspension (control arms and links). Took a loss on trade in for my 2013 Lexus ES350 which I sold to Carvana in April 2021, then bought my beautiful 2002 Lexus ES300 !
I sold my ES 350 after two years of ownership for financial reasons, that car gave me zero problems in 24 months.
Running rack which coincidentally is great for hauling your trips to the dump 😂
Haha, exactly
@@ECPP 😄
yeah i understand all that, but what cool car is cheap to fix i have had toyotas lexus and mercedes, so its just the way it is maybe diagnostic fees will change that is very annoying , but what r u gonna do u dont have to buy any car lol
Man… I’ve been missing you.
I am Baaaack. Thanks for hanging with the channel. Hope you are having a great weekend.
We dont have these extreme problems with BMW's in the UK. I dont know what you Americans do with them ! There are plenty of older BMWs here giving good service, and a lot are diesels which are IMO the best 2L diesels on the market.
That’s what people say, but it definitely is not great here
*I LOVE hearing BMW owners make excuses for BMW's purposeful engineered obsolescence.* According to them, BMW's only have issues due to poor maintenance from owners. I reply with... "yeah? Tell that to my 2011 Lexus IS350 with a 120k miles, 2002 4Runner with 170k miles, and my Honda s2000 with almost 200k that only ever had oil changes and small wearable items like pads/brakes and a valve cover gasket on 4Runner and s2000. They don't like that response haha!
To me, BMW and the like (ahem... German cars) are con artists and should go belly up for their purposefully bad engineering regarding reliability. They make their products expendable an inferior like a phone at the cost of the owners. Basically, they want you to replace your car every 4-6 years with a new one. I honestly can't believe how stupid people are when they buy these cars. I tell everyone if you go German, make sure you only lease them.
How are people stupid for buying a car they want? It’s people like you that throw insults at others but we’re just living our lives enjoying what we want in this life. You make money and you’ll lose money it doesn’t even matter at this point. This is exactly why no one like you You Lexus/Toyota fan nerds. Always judging others because of “Reliability!”. 🤦🏽♂️
Life’s to short, but I drive a 20 yr old Ford Taurus bc it’s paid for & reliable, & easy to work on…….. & parts are cheap……
thanks
If you want the good shit you gotta pay for it.
It does come at a cost, no doubt.
Actually bmw ages well.
All bwm look cool
Thanks
This is really the only thing about German cars I don't like. You can't buy them and keep them; you have to lease them new. I currently daily a 2011 Jag XJ SC that I bought 7 years ago. I change the oil every 5K miles and do the services and it just runs forever. A simple supercharged V8 engine and ZF trans. You can't do that with a hyper complicated German car. Benz,BMW,Audi always constantly trying to out-do each other by pushing the tech envelope makes their cars age much faster than say, a Lexus. Can you imagine a C-Class or 4-Series or A6 with the 3.5 V6 from a Camry?? That would be wonderful!
You are totally right Trevor. Moderate tech would help with reliability. Also yes I believe that the big German brands are certainly smart enough to engineer more reliability, but not sure that’s a priority for them
I love these video's - they are gorgeous cars, however bring your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!
Thank you very much. And you are right
You are really stretching it. Toyota has beautiful showrooms too with nice coffee and also trains their technicians. Bottom line - if can't afford a BMW then buy a Toyota. Both are great cars for different customers. If both cost the same, what would you buy? BMW is an incredible vehicle.
I owned a 2008 Bmw E60 and it felt like i was married to the mechanic holding a LUBE GUN !!!
Haha, right? That’s what I have been saying but some do not believe it. Lol
@@ECPP People at work would ask me if it's a good idea to get a BMW for their retirement car. i told them... sure sink your 401K into car repairs.
BMW is the KING of DEPRECIATION!!
Absolutely they are, lol
So stressful to be a service advisor at bmw
