- North Eveleigh Public Meeting Erskineville Town Hall 6 Nov 2022
RepLM for Cllr HY William Chan
The Lord Mayor met with North Eveleigh residents in September to hear their concerns and share our own concerns about Transport for NSW’s proposed residential and commercial rezoning of the Paint Shop sub-precinct.
The City is concerned about the scale; lack of social, affordable and culturally appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing; lack of respect to the heritage of the area; the significant impact on traffic; and that future residents will be subject to ongoing noise and vibration as homes will be next to the rail line.
The City’s alternative approach, which we put in a formal submission to the Government, provides a better layout and reduces many of these impacts, while encouraging innovation and creative uses, and improving conditions for future residents.
The Government is the consent authority. We are being realistic in proposing a better outcome because the floor space is already allowed.
The Department of Planning and Environment is currently reviewing all submissions, Transport for NSW will then respond to the submissions. We hope they will place their response on exhibition so we can all respond to it.
I look forward to hearing from all of you today. This is far from over, we must continue to work together to get the best results for this important part of Sydney.
