I’m not usually someone that likes to read but this story actually was fun to read. And trust me coming from me that means a lot lol. I recommend reading the story first then watching the movie
Was just about to watch this. But i chose to follow your recomendation instead. Just ordered a copy of the story. Very excited to read then watch it when it arrives in the mail. Wouldnt have knew it was a story if not for your comment. Im also not much of a reader so recomendations like these are always nice.
I really enjoy this film but I think this print is in 16mm, due to the lower quality audio/video. I am also someone who is very dedicated on film preservation and I also just like this film. I actually think the lower quality 16mm adds some character as gives a certain charm to the film.
I want people to appreciate the sheer quality of the fight scene at the end. The whole movie is rock solid with internal coherence, and lots of films are, but they always fail on the fight scenes. This plays like how fighting would actually happen: The grunts are in different parts of the castle, so they respond at different times, so Rob can fight them one at a time. The fights are rough, but you can see the strategies of either guy - Rob tries to disengage and stay mobile, since he's outnumbers, and worked on disarming whomever he could, since he was also outgunned. Punches are big cus these aren't fighters, they're hunters or servants. Groundwork is good and fun, and again matches Rob's situation - outnumbers and outgunned, keep him off - while the other guy keeps on. No bullshit moves, no crowd of baddies waiting to kick one guy's ass, noone's waiting, they're just not there yet or already beaten up. Why aren't more fight scenes like this?
Fay Wray was quite a stunner, even by today's standards. But Joel McCrea would have been SO MUCH better off leaving her at the castle and evading the hunter alone.
It's possible that Joel McCrea is wearing a Zodiac watch and that the Zodiac killer had some connection to the production of this film, maybe a parent or other relative.
"The first flat pocket watch was launched to the public in 1928, and used the unique Zodiac calibre 1617 movement. In 1930 the brand designed and produced the first automatic sports watch, and then produced the popular Zodiac Autographic. The Autographic was self-winding with a power reserve gauge, an unbreakable crystal, and a radium dial, and was also water and shock resistant." - from 'Zodiac Watches' Wikipedia article.
The film began shooting in the spring of 1932. Zodiac Watch introduced the first automatic sports watch and the Zodiac Autographic in 1930. So it's entirely possible that Joel McCrea is wearing a Zodiac watch. Perhaps this watch was eventually given to the Zodiac killer through a relative that was associated with the production of the film. The Zodiac killer is estimated to have been 25 to 30 years old in 1969, so that is why I assume it was an older relative and not himself to have been associated with the film's production.

Interesting movie for being a Classic!!
I’ve so many documents stating this happens today at the bohemian grove and New England 🏴
