    I'm scratching my head as to why Toyota would offer the Corolla Cross in this odd yellow color, but they won't give us the Prius with the yellow color it debuted in? For a car that has traditionally been quirky, I would've thought the yellow on the Prius would make sense, especially since it looks phenomenal with the new design.

    • @tinhinnh

    • @ryannatividad3137
      @ryannatividad3137 Год назад +5

      Only reason I can think of is that they don't think they'll sell enough Prius numbers to justify bringing more colors to the US. With the strong preference of A to B buyers moving to crossovers, this is probably going to be a bigger seller for Toyota than the Prius. I could even see the Corolla Cross, especially with the hybrid powertrain, cannibalizing sales from the RAV4 for people who don't need the additional space...and might prefer a smaller and cheaper vehicle as the RAV4 has gotten slightly bigger and more expensive over time.

    • @ryannatividad3137
      @ryannatividad3137 Год назад +5

      I'm also noticing they're only showing the hybrid in this yellow color...I've yet to see it in one of the more boring colors. I would bet a lot of it has to do with marketing. It masks that this is otherwise a pretty boring looking crossover that has already been out for a bit. I bet showing this color in photos and reviews does gin up a bit more needed excitement for the Corolla Cross hybrid from the press and the public than it would get if it was showcased in a more generic color. The Prius didn't need that help since it was a brand new model, with a well received design and performance boost by the public.

    These Toyota Hybrids are very nice - not a huge crossover fan but you can’t argue with their practicality or packaging and especially with the awesome mileage and good power you are getting. I’m glad/lucky that I drive so few annual miles that fuel economy is just not a concern for me so that I don’t have to jump into the crazy ADM’s and wait times that nearly all Toyota dealerships will be putting their prospective customers through.

    Thanks Kirk for your video. My wife and I already picked our choice with a 2022 RAV 4 Prime model SE with the sunroof package we purchase new back in March of 2022.
    I now can see why this SUV is in such high demand. We live in NW Oregon and now with summer temps approaching our electric mile range has gone up to the low 40's to high 40's and in some cases low 50's. MPG with a depleted battery also increased from low to mid 40's mpg to high 40's to low 50's mpg. With over 16,000 miles we have had 0 issues so far.
    The Corolla Cross would would be a little to small for us but its a step in the right direction. What Toyota needs to do is have more models with a plug in hybrid systems its a win win no matter how you look at it. Plug in hybrid's are the way to go. No range anxiety, still great mpg's when in pure hybrid mode as well. This week we drove over 200 miles in pure electric mode and never used one drop of gas.

    I (from Germany) drive the top model (called Touring Sport in Europe, comparable to XSE in US) of Corolla Full Hybrid , 2.0 l Engine, station wagon with adaptive suspension, since 2019. I am very satisfied with its power train, handling and great fuel economy (4.0 - 4.5 liter / 100 km; about 52 - 58 mpg) even I drive a lot on Autobahn with speed of 60+ mph. I will give the top model of Corolla Cross Hybrid a try. The aerodynamic drag/resistance of Corolla Cross is probably a bit worse than my corolla, but the engine of Corolla Cross is from newer generation and probably more efficient.

    Very well done review and in an entertaining way. I was initially interested in this Corolla Cross Hybrid, but it appeared that it would be ages before they would be in dealerships. That's what a ill-informed salesman and rude person told me at Kolosso Toyota in Appleton, WI. Btw, I would not recommend that place. There are so many other Toyota dealerships in N.E. Wisconsin, the Fox Valley and even in the Southern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
    After being discouraged about availability of the Cross Hybrid, I stated looking into the Prius more. It's a great vehicle, but if you are more inclined to a SUV, as I seem to be, this could be the better choice. The Prius looks great now and is pretty fast, but it's low to the ground and doesn't have the greatest visibility. I may just put the Prius on hold for now and wait for awhile when the Corolla Cross Hybrid should be more available and more known about it. Btw, I love the color of this particular vehicle. I find the 'acidic blast'/ black roof to be just stunning. There will be more and more reviews for this vehicle in the months to come and I think they will be very positive.

    Two points: I agree that Toyota (and nearly all other manufacturers) offer colorways that are way too constrained --- mostly variations of gray, with very few bright colors that pop. Second: For someone who would actually need the 4WD system to venture offroad, I await RUclips offroad reports that compare offroad clearances and performance against known competitors (Subaru's full-time system, etc.). It will never have the ruggedness of my Toyota FJ Cruiser with M6 and full-time 4WD -- but then, I realize that's not its purpose, either.

Not a fan of several factors with that car -- dual clutch sucks -- but when lease is up in October 2024, I will definitely take a closer look at the Corolla Cross Hybrid (no idea if Kona will offer hybrids for 2025 model year, just gas and EV so far). Big factor down the road is cost of used cars versus leasing a new car. Meanwhile, our other car is a 2-week old Camry XLE AWD and it's great for what we needed. If we're still living in NJ, then having AWD would be a benefit.

    I hear the passenger front seat is really uncomfortable is that true? Do wish it had actual off road chops like the crosstrek. The other thing is the steering and not really being able to go offoad, which makes me think just get the Prius.

      This really does seem like the successor to the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe. They definitely would have been marketed as subcompact crossovers if they came out in today's market. Compact, hatchback trunk, affordable, available AWD, and slightly funky...just like most of the subcompact crossovers today.

    The CX-30 Premium would probably still edge out for me. The CX-30 simply punches above it's weight in terms of interior and features, and the base engine is similarly powerful to this hybrid. The only main advantage of this Corolla Cross hybrid is simply the higher range and fuel economy.(Don't get me wrong, that is a big deal and gives me pause on my choice) Another factor with any hybrid with a Toyota badge these days is actually finding a Corolla Cross Hybrid in a desirable color with the features I want without being gouged by a dealer.

    • @ryannatividad3137

      Yes, I agree and can see the arguments for both vehicles. It probably is smart of Toyota to go after what they do best: fuel economy, value, reliability, and practicality. The CX-30 is more for buyers that care more about a slightly sportier driving experience and premium design at the expense of some practicality and fuel economy.
