Boeing 747:
The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States between 1968 and 2023. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 2+1⁄2 times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30%. In 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development program to design the 747, the first twin-aisle airliner. In April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 Boeing 747-100 aircraft, and in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop the JT9D engine, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the world's largest building by volume. The first flight took place on February 9, 1969, and the 747 was certified in December of that year. It entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970. The 747 was the first airplane called a "Jumbo Jet" as the first wide-body airliner.

Are we starting over with all new mistakes?
@Istealcontentforviews Retiring another well proven design that cost lives. Starting over with all new mistakes all new lives lost that's how aviation works.
I bet you people are a real hoot at parties.🖕😑
737s,Constellations, and even the Concordes cost many lives. But hey...lets all jump into these safe cars and laugh at the drunk drivers, cause thgyll never damage these fabulous indestructible autos.😑
@@STEVE_C_1369 The horrific losses of life we have experienced learning how to refine a existing design was all for nothing.
There is no good reason to retire this aircraft design and abandoned all the improvements that came with a heavy human price tag. No super computer or fancy composite material is going to make up for the lessons learned.
Whatever aircraft replaces /replaced this one will not be a proven design, it will most likely have several major incidences from breaking half to catching fire mid flight. Everything will have to be re learned with every new design, it's that simple.
Standardizing aircraft designs is way overdue. The more ridiculous and lightweight penny pinching designs are, the more maintenance turns into a nightmare and leads to catastrophic accidents regularly. I have studied just about every commercial aircraft accident ever, It always boils down to something ridiculous and preventable if we had just stuck with a tried and true design. It gets really shady when you realize the only reason we switch to newer designed aircraft is to make more money..
Safety is not an aircraft manufacturer's primary concern anymore. Acceptable losses are a thing in commercial aviation
@@Dat_Sun Im reading a lot of supposing. There is no way you can trash future computer designing .Computer and associated microprocessors and semiconductors advance faster than any other industry. And who is to say the 747 design will go away. It could be implemented in the next line of Boeing.
See...we can all suppose. But supposing and assuming isnt fact.We will just have to see what Boeing brings to the table before throwing the towel in and start pointing fingers. Those horrific losses of life you speak of are shared by all designs, including the so much praised Airbus. But,the worse of the lot is the 737 series.
@@STEVE_C_1369 That "supposing" is based off of history. We don't even need to bring up a recent series of crashes that was due to insane over engineering.
I've made the mistake of researching aircraft accidents most often my life, it went from a fascination to a frustration. To me it seems obvious, the aviation industry has chosen an acceptable loss amount.
Using design cues from a trusted design might be horrible in a new design. There's only one way to find out..
