The larger question is: “Why is Harley-Davidson struggling EVERYWHERE?” The answer is: “Because they are still building ‘grandpa bikes’.” Whenever you hear a Harley rumble up to a stoplight what do you see 95% of the time? OLD, FAT & GRAY guys wearing leather jackets usually with those silly tassels, and leather chaps. Yup....weekend outlaw wanna-be’s. This image does not appeal to the younger generations of riders (those who are less than 55 years old). Harley-Davidson thinks that bumping up their iconic V-Twin a few cubic inches every year is enough to keep their core customers coming back. The trouble is, they are a dying breed (literally & figuratively speaking). H-D has let this situation go on far too long. Now they are desperately trying to roll out motorcycles that might appeal to younger riders, but their bikes are still too heavy, too slow, and lack the latest suspension technologies. AND..... they are still far more expensive than competitors’ bikes. Harley-Davidson’s days are numbered.

Harley as a company relies too much on nostalgia to sell their products, at and above premium too, so when all the people who have any fond memories of their bikes die out so will their company, greed will get you in the end, it's inevitable.
What "greed"? What I see is a company, paying American union wages and benefits, producing an antiquated product line constrained by its customers' nostalgic expectations. If Harley innovates, it loses its identity and its core customer base. If it doesn't, as that customer base dies off, so does its sales. And, without innovation, it will not appeal to enough of a younger crowd. Remember the V-Rod? That was an attempt to produce a more modern Harley, and the customer base rejected it. To a certain degree, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. The other day, I was looking at a Harley Whatchamaglide, (I don't remember exactly what it was). But I was struck by how massively built everything was compared to my Ducati. This thing was pulling a trailer with luggage and likely carrying a couple of middle-aged lard-a****. It looked to be a well-built machine, and as a mechanical engineer, I could see that there was a huge amount of materials and expensive machine work, and finishing like polishing, plating, painting, and anodizing. I can only imagine what it costs to produce a bike like that Harley, which likely weighs 800lb. (My Ducati is around 380lb). It can't be cheap, especially in low numbers relative to Japanese companies like Honda, which rely on economies of scale to keep prices low. So, it doesn't seem to me that Harley Davidson is "greedy", as much as it is a company stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The latter can shake itself to termination including the rider and not to mention our confidence in the brand. This is coming from someone who has an old Bullet (enjoyable), New Bullet - regrettable, Karizma - absolutely trust worthy bike. But you do not realize that even if only tiny minority of wealthy people are in this enthusiastic crowd of motorcyclists, the market would be upwards of 800,000 people while including all major cities.

H-D has let this situation go on far too long. Now they are desperately trying to roll out motorcycles that might appeal to younger riders, but their bikes are still too heavy, too slow, and lack the latest suspension technologies.

Harley as a company relies too much on nostalgia to sell their products, at and above premium too, so when all the people who have any fond memories of their bikes die out so will their company, greed will get you in the end, it's inevitable.
And the Chinese knock them off and makes a more reliable motorcycle.
Can we allhr

And that's why Ford and General motors also failed in India
Straight away i would say we prefer Japanese over american products.... reliability and vfm is usp here.... honda/yamaha will survive long in markets jzt bcoz they did a better market study.....

@@williamsatish25 the the engine design se Japanese
@@williamsatish25
Hi,
You are right, the manufacturing has always been from different parts of the country. However, you'll notice that bikes under Japanese collaboration (if not completely Japanese) are much better built to last and perform. E.g. a ten year old Hero Honda Karizma will be still great going compared to a ten year old bullet. The latter can shake itself to termination including the rider and not to mention our confidence in the brand. This is coming from someone who has an old Bullet (enjoyable), New Bullet - regrettable, Karizma - absolutely trust worthy bike.
Also, another reason why the Harley doesn't resonate with our people here is the similar reason it's struggling in the U.S. It's an overpriced style statement often undermining the practicable aspects of design, ergonomics, cost of ownership, post sale maintenance, fuel-economy pressure etc. A clear example of how competition helps the customer.
Royal Enfield ♥️🇮🇳✌️
splendor
#1 Fuel cost : harley doesn't have any fuel efficient models with smaller engine capacities
#2 Harley costs a premium there. Not just the initial costs of purchasing the bike, parts are extremely costly and service centres are scarce
#3 motorcycles are purchased as a cheap mode of transportation.. Very small number of Indians purchase it for the rising pleasure
Basically it's the cost that plays, the initial cost, the running cost including fuel prices, etc
@Fallen Angel well... I don't know if you have ridden a harley (not the locally manufactured street 750) ... Yamaha manufacturers some good bikes but it's not the best, hop onto a Pinagale or HP4 and you will understand what I am saying. As far as RE is concerned, it's not a bad bike, especially for its price and fuel efficiency but it's far from being a good bike. It's has a lot of issues from vibrations to electrical problems. It doesn't value safety at all. Only recently it has introduced ABS since it became mandatory but that too single channel. It's brakes are pretty bad and much more. However for the price and considering it's low running cost, it's worth every penny but to say that it's better than a harley is far too much a stretch

Can anyone answer me one question
HOW MANY AMERICANS WHO CAN AFFORD A HARLEY DAVIDSONS, ACTUALLY GO AHEAD AND BUY IT INSTEAD OF A CAR ??
They just want to make fun of others with no knowledge. Just American thing.
Harley are selling poor everywhere. They refused to adapt for too long. Their bikes are insanely priced, and beyond outdated. Customer base is dying off
I dont know where you are from, but assuming that you are an american and that you too feel that Harley is insanely priced over there, you would faint knowing how much more we Indians have to pay for the same model of bike (maybe missing some bells and whistles from its US twin) in India due to high taxes..... Every automobile here has the same issue.... For an example, i am quoting the sticker price of Ford Mustang Bulitt in US, which is around $47k (INR 3,281,375). Forget Bulitt, the base model of Mustang in India starts from $107,423 (INR 7,500,000). And ppl wonder why premium automobiles sales are small or declining in India......
Popeye The Sailorman Yes from the US. I’ve traveled a bunch my whole life, and know how pricing goes. Especially fuel, were very lucky here in the US. India is really stepping it up, with the Royal Enfield line up. Tons of buzz from them here within the last two years
@@sarahdell4042 yeah... fuel price, taxes, road conditions etc all play considerable role in making any autompbile a succes/failyre story. Coming to Royal Enfield, though they are makers of heavy cruiser bikes, albeit smaller than Harley or Indian, is very unreliable.... they are the Harleys of India... they too sell an image rather than a machine..... Royal Enfield is surviving in India, wouldn't call it a sucess story at all. They weigh a ton, gas guzzler, have reliability issues and also on the pricey side (as per Indian standard, starting somewhere around $2700 and can stretch to $4000 for top models). The Japanese brands have made a considetable long lasting mark on the Indian market with their affordable and reliable machines which will be a mamoth task for any foreign auto company to compete. Given their reliable and strong customer support, even their premium models, in similar pricing range of Triumph or Harley, sells in considerable large numbers than bikes of any other companies, be it Italian or American......
Import duties on Harleys in India are about 50%. As opposed to 2% approx for Indian bikes exported to the US. If Harley - like any other MNC in India - wants to double sales, it needs to lobby against a punitive and protective government. Even that tho isn't a guarantee. Look at what happened to Nissan and how the government screwed them over.

@@r2.b2 with all due respect brother, maharashtrians or kannadigas were always part of independent India. 70% of Kashmiris who are residing in kashmir wants it to be part of India...
The rest have been driven away by islamists and are living in the streets of delhi. Kashmiri Pandits...
Get your facts right.
Rohit Kumar Chand:
1. You actually need to refer to Article 370 of the constitution. Article 377 of the constitution is regarding the Auditor General. Sec. 377 of the IPC (in the news recently, and possibly the cause of confusion, is about homosexuality as a crime, now read down by the SC)
2. The constitution states: "370. Temporary provisions with respect to the State of Jammu and Kashmir"; the provisions were always meant to be temporary
3. The instrument of accession was signed by the King, so the agreement was with the King, not the people. While I care more about the people than erstwhile rulers, I am putting this forth to counter your purported legal point
4. The problem of Kashmir is not because of the Kashmiris as much as because of our neighbours. The instrument of accession was in fact signed under threat of Pakistani invasion.
5. The problem remains because the UN decided it was an international issue and not a bilateral one in 1948 (I may be off on the year), this solution pleased no one, with both sides placing their armies in portions occupied by them. As it does not today, consist of an international border, skirmishes across the LoC are not considered acts of war with international sanction, which perpetuates bloodshed.
6. Even if we consider the great autonomy that Kashmir enjoys, it is arguably more akin to the US federal structure, not a mini-nation.
7. Kashmir is therefore as much a part of India as Saurashtra or Andhra (Hyderabad), which also acceded to India rather late, Hyderabad in fact by force ("police action") with Kings/Princes ruling the territory. We don't not call Hyderabadis Indian...
