Nice to know that the lengthier the spiky cacti the more flowers you get. Added bonus! The Pegasus is still blooming showing who's the empress once and for all. What a beauty. Hello Lynne everyday I'm a bigger and bigger fan of your videos and thank you so much for your contribution :). It's not fully related to this video but i've been meaning to ask you this and i thought there no better way to do it.
    I've germinated some, for lack of the latin name, peyote, and I must have sown them around the start of June.
    My knowledge and research was very basic at that point so literally all i combined was some potting soil and I went to the river beside my house and got some sand/pebbles from the shore, and mixed it like 50/50 into the potting soil. Ordinary homebase bought soil.
    A lot of the seeds have germinated. Red little balls, I understand the redness is from sunlight but I also understand it's not too much of a problem and that they'll green out. They're in my greenhouse.
    Anyway, since the beginning of June the soil/pebble/sand mix has really changed in consistency like it's packed down, it get's quite dry like the top of the soil is a big flake but i do mist and water it when it needs it.
    None of the seedlings have died, however, do you think I should repot them into a typical cactus soil mix (now that i know what that is) and if so, do you think i should do it sooner rather than later?
    Or do you think I should be patient considering they are still alive?
    Kind regards, a humble Scotsman.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 лет назад +1

      Hi there :-D so happy you love my videos and thank you so much for watching them :-D thats wonderful news that you have peyote seedlings on the go, I bet they are cuties :-D The best thing to do is to definitely leave them and continue to give them plenty of moisture so the root hairs do not dry up, I think this would definitely be the best thing to do because at this early stage they are too young to be transplanted without harming the very fine delicate roots, your soil may be ok as the sand and pebbles may be well draining with the ordinary soil, I think they will be ok as Peyotes are hardy enough even very young with most soils as long as its well draining, and I would only change the soil if they looked like thy were dying, but its best to leave them and continue to keep the soil well moist :-D The polytunnel was only meant to be a temporary one until we got a greenhouse haha but its lasted so well we decided to keep it, we would have preferred a clear one or white but green was only available at the time for the size we wanted, but ideally these plants like to have as much light as possible and a clear or white one would have been a better option, but thankfully despite the awful cloudy weather we get here in northern Ireland and the green covering offering more shade than we would like, the cacti seem to be doing really well which is good :-D thank you so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a terrific Tuesday XXXXX

    The flowers are lovely! And I love the cactus garden, it's so neat and has a lot of different species yet beautiful. cactus is such a lovely plant, and I have a question, why of all plants you choose Cactus? This channel gave more interest in cactus. I used to keep a few of some types along with the flowers I used to plant when I was young. What was special about them that they have such a steel will for survival they can live for months without watering and even I had one that I intended to plane but forgot it in the balcony for over one month in the summer, and when I came back it was still alive, I then named Cactus "the Undying plant" :-D I enjoy watching your channel, plus the hobby it gives love energy. Thank you for such lovely video, lots of sunshine from sunny Egypt to your nice plants. Love and Blessings!

    Sorry I've been commenting so much. :p But I need advice. I rescued a peanut cactus from Wal-Mart that had been spray painted blue. Is there anything I can use to get the paint off? Like rubbing alcohol or something? Or will it fade off naturally? Also, will the paint affect the amount of sunlight it gets?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Katie :-D well done on rescuing your Peanut cactus, and poor plant with the spray paint on, I hate it when they do this an di see it a lot here in the garden shops too, the good news is your plant will eventually outgrow the paint and the paint will fade over time, its best to give your cactus as much sunshine as you can so it can receive optimum light as the paint does prevent as much light getting to the cactus, but it should not harm it long term, I think it may be best to leave it as it can be hard to remove the paint, but place your cactus in as much sunshine as it possibly can get :-D thank you so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a terrific Tuesday XXXXX
