I found a few comparisons between japanese and english here and there, but not as much as what I just saw in a few minutes in this video. I do love Eiko aswell. Her cruch on Zidane is pretty funny and cute. While cruch itself might be childish Eiko us actully really mature in handeling it. She does not antagonize Garnet fore being her rival. On the contrary she becomes a great and suportive friend to Garnet and by the time they get to Terra she seem to have accepted that Zidane and Garnet love each other.
Indeed! Even though many see her as very bratty, Eiko is actually really mature for her age, as you said. And interestingly enough, I actually mention that fact about Eiko accepting Zidane and Garnet's love for each other in a future episode of this series. 😉
heh zidane says crying on shoulder first to dagger, and than when she askes she says he would cry on her chest, and quickly corrects himself to say shoulder and she reacts.
As an italian person I Always thought our localisation was bad becouse some scenes are censored and some lines don't have sense or are vague. But in some point its very faithful: in italian It Say "maybe i can cry on your chest" and "un posto in cui tornare, un giorno"

In Germany Zidane is much more funier and lewd. When he saw lani he says "oh Who is this beautyfull Woman" And Garnet say "Stop flirting Zidane" 6:15 Here its in Germany Quiet the same like in Japanese. Zidane : Its not Bad to cry i habe always a shlulder for you Garnet : and you Zidane what if you have to cry Zidane : Well denn i cry above your boobs uhhhm i mean sholder too. Garnet : You!!? Zidane : What am i not allowed to do or what?
That's extrenely weird that they left out the line about Brahne wanting Vivi destroyed so that no other countries can use her weapons. Idk man that hits real hard with how she can't even see this as him doing things of his own free will, its just "oh, they stole an object that I own". I'm starting to think the dub is trying to purposefully make Brahne less awful for some reason? I honestly felt all the "oh but she's not thaaaat bad, she used to be good once!!" lines were the worst parts of the game and felt really at odds with the rest of it. I'm wondering if they'll end up being english-only too when we get that far..?
Ohhhh the Lani flirting line makes so much more sense lol. I was always confused why Garnet assumed Zidane was flirting when he just said a normal greeting, I assumed it was meant to imply he just used a lecherous tone of voice we can't see in the text. Makes so much more sense if he was suddenly going all OH HELLO MILADY, HAVE YOU GRACED ME WITH YOUR PRESENCE 😂 They probably couldn't do much within the character limits but I think even just "h-hello ma'am" could have worked. Or add a lil heart or ~ at the end.
Haha, I think "I get real clingy when I'm sad" was a good solution to that line! It doesn't seem like it was changed for censorship, but to fit a character limit. I still absolutely got the sense he meant "lemme cry into you (in a physically grabby way)" because the entire animation of the scene is literally him doing grabby hands. I just took it as him implying the same thing more indirectly. And honestly the phrasing was extremely funny to me, with how suddenly casual it is compared to how serious the rest of the scene was. I feel they did the best they could if they did indeed have to just figure out some random pervy thing to say in an equal amount of characters.
Idk is it weird that I prefer "a place to return to" over "a place to call home"? I know the latter sounds more natural but I feel the story fits better with the idea of finding somewhere you belong which may not be a literal home. Like Zidane's whole story is about chasing home as in "literally where I came from", and being extremely disappointed when he finds out the truth, but realising the found family he has with the party members is more important. And also the identity he's made for himself, his true self, is more real than the purpose he was created to do. I feel like if even the Japanese is avoiding the usual phrasing for home and going for "somewhere to return to", it might have been on purpose, yknow?
