    A beautiful but very melancholy video. A LONG time ago, my grandfather would take me on long drives to places and tell me the rich history these overgrown or mowed down places once had. Always made me appreciate what survives, even if not in the best of shape.

      It can certainly feel that way at Dinting, the weather certainly helped as in winter it feels completely different. That's a lot more there which I will put in a longer video. Thanks for watching and commenting Anthony.

    Excellent video. Brought back some happy memories from my early years.
    A shame this can't be taken down and rebuilt at somewhere like The Midland Railway Butterley.

      That would be brilliant, it's a lovely building which deserves so much better. Apparently the building cannot be listed due to some of the alterations made to it (such as the roof) I've filmed the rest of the site and will try to get that uploaded at some point over the next few weeks. Thanks for watching Malcolm. 🚂☮️😀

    Lovely video Rick and Pauline of the abandoned Dinting railway centre, so sad! My wife and I visited dinting sometime in the mid to late 80s , Bahamas wasn’t there I don’t think but A4 “ Bittern” was so someone else might be able to date our visit? What saddens me is the fact that there can’t be many of these buildings left throughout the country and just because someone’s replaced the roof! The well documented barrow hill (which I know and love) recently replaced its entire roof thanks to lottery funding! Don’t get me wrong I don’t think this I a wrong decision but if the powers that be can list the roundhouse and let it have a new roof, why not this little gem ?

    • @wellchuffedrailways
      @wellchuffedrailways  Год назад +1

      Hi Ian, Bittern was moved to Dinting in October 1978 and I think it was there until the mid 1980's possibly 1987 but I'm a bit unsure on that. The best thing for the old depot was if it was purchased and moved to somewhere where it could be used for what it was designed for. At the moment it's just waiting to be declared unsafe and one day it will demolished. This makes me very sad as it's a lovely building and an important part of railway history. I keep meaning to do a follow up video but it will have to wait until the Autumn when I can actually get to see everything. Many thanks for watching and commenting. All the best Rick

      Yeah it's just like we are temporary custodians of the land and nature will take it back again. It's quite a peaceful place to visit when the sun is out but grim when it goes in. There is a lot more footage I have yet to show including platforms, disused station building, exhibition hall and old Miniature railway site (track removed). I will get that footage out at some point. Thanks for watching ☮️🚂😀

    Thank you Rick and Pauline for an interesting walk around the Dinting Railway site. It was nice to have Bobby along too! He certainly enjoyed the outing! What a shame about such a nice building being abandoned and becoming derelict ☹️. Well spotted that the Bachman model was based on this shed. It’s a nice bit of railway history. Well done 👍🏼. Take care of each other and best wishes.

      Hi Arthur and thanks for watching. Bobby certainly knows his way around there! I've been waiting for the weather to improve before attempting filming. It was exactly the right time as it was very dry and the trees had not fully bloomed which would hamper visibility. We did film a lot more of the site even though i hadn't planned too! This will be in a longer video which will contain a lot more information on Dinting. I had to edit out a lot of info on the history of the site due to audio problems on this video. There are some videos of the centre on RUclips of when the site was operational which are worth a watch. All the best Rick and Pauline.

    Hi guys , really liking the bargain hunt videos, but this one has definitely got me, I am currently having a DCC layout based on Dinting, with a few tweaks of modellers license. I didn't know that this item existed , I was going to use x 3 old Airfix engine sheds, but shall be investing in one of these instead ... thanks,...
    As part of my modellers license, I will be running my 2 favourite locomotives, a GWR/BR Blue King and a Southern/BR WC Spam Can for the brake van rides part of the layout , a Hymek n Class 37 and 03 Shunter for messing around yard .
    My old man used take me here all the time n wish had the foresight to take lots of photos..

      Hi Alan, i'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Before filming the video I spoke with the gentleman in charge of the Bahamas Loco Society archive who give me permission to use the photos he also sent me a number that have never been published. I have spent a good few years collecting an awful lot of Dinting memorabilia including, brochures, coasters, stickers, slides a mirrors, tea towels, mugs, stamps and a whole lot more. I am planning on doing a vlog on this soon as like you we are modeling a Dinting inspired layout. A couple of things you might find useful, the Bachmann Model only has 6 windows down the side whereas Dinting had 8. If this bothers you Modelux do a kit which has 8! A recent issue of Railway Modeller had a short article on Dinting for the modeller and this included a scale track plan! The article was in a recent supplement called Modelling British Railways in the 70s. The track plan looks great although I am a little unsure that the platform at the end of the running line is accurate. Bachmann do a SR Queen Mary brake van which is the same is one of those used at Dinting. Of the locos based at Dinting Mainline did the Scots Guardsman and Leander which are in the livereis they were in at Dinting and Bachmann still make the LNWR coal tank although the livery it is modelled in is slightly different to when it was at Dinting. I hope this helps and good luck with the layout. Cheers Rick ☮🚂😀

      Dinting was a fantastic place, , such a shame how it ended,
      I have a few of the brochures also , where did you find the othe other memorabilia, wouldn't mind some of that ...

      Many years spent on eBay! I've got too much to list. The best source of info is the Bahamas Loco Society's Magazines they did a series of articles on the History of Dinting. I forgot to mention Bachmann did a model of Bahamas in BR green, it was only at Dinting for the last year in this livery but remember Rule 1 😀🚂☮️

    It should never have shut, poor management and a dispute in my opinion. I spent many years working up there and it was very popular. My wife Ruth used to bacon on the Coal fire that was in the enginemens room ( described as a lean to in the video). That was in 1969/70, before we got the kitchen and serving hatch. Very basic, but workable. Happy days, thanks for the video 😊

      Hi Stuart thanks for watching and sharing your memories. It's a shame what happened with the lease especially when you consider all the time and hard work you people put into the centre over the years. We did film a lot of footage of the rest of the site and I will try and put that out soon. The platforms are still just about visible, the exhibition centres track beds and the miniature railway are all visible. All the best Rick.

      The platform T the end of the running line adjacent to Dinting station, there are some steps leading up to it that go under a small archway. The remains of the arch are there but have fallen down. I will cover the area in my video if that helps. Cheers Rick 😀

  • @truthseeker2668

    I’d suspect the path up to the miniature railway site was cleared when Network Rail put the new metal fencing along Dintings boundary, thus using the path as an access point.
    Be good if someone took a chainsaw to the areas around the shed to expose it more, if you look on Google Earth the roof is barely visible once greenery is back on the trees.
    Great video though 👍🏼

    • @wellchuffedrailways
      @wellchuffedrailways  2 года назад

      Yes that's possible, it's nice to see anyway. We visited at the right time as usually you can hardly see the shed when the trees have bloomed. If I had the money I would clear it all and put some track down! Cheers for watching and commenting.

      Had a wander round ourselves about two years ago, can still picture what was where despite the overgrowth and with the assistance of the Dinting Facebook group. As a child I always found it a chore getting dragged down there but amazing how perceptions change as you get older!
