You can't tell from this clip, but Joe had such a smooth passing motion for the early '60s. Other QBs seemed jerky and mechanical in their windup and delivery. Night-and-day difference between Joe and his immediate predecessor, Pat Trammel (who was more herky-jerky than most). Namath was 6'2" and could dunk. That tells you what a gifted athlete he was.
I grew up watching Joe play for the Jets at Shea Stadium. I never saw him run. This video was an eye opener. The injuries to his knees really took a toll.
Two things... Before blowing out his knee on an option play in Raleigh, NC against the Wolfpack, Joe was a serious threat to go for yards on the ground or up top. When asked in the late 60s who the best passer in the pro leagues was, if he could have anyone on his team, Vince Lombardi didn't hesitate. Joe Namath is the best passer in football right now. No one is close. High praise indeed....
Funny Watching Broadway Joe running the Ball.. Only if Bear Bryant would have let Him Sling that Rock more. Could've Won a couple more Championships..😎
Joe Willie Namath. Strange; back then his skill-set was lauded. He was mobile af! See that style today and act like its a new thing! If Joe had his wheels when he played NFL??...We would've had dual-threat QBs as the norm already. He was a bad man!! Still underrated...
THATS TRUE...IF JOE DIDNT HAVE THOSE BAD KNEES....WHO KNOWS....HE WAS TUFF...THATS FOR SURE....HE BEAT UP THE BADDEST ACTOR OF THE TIME...WILLIAM SMITH....JUST WATCH CC RIDER....JOE COULD RIDE. AND FIGHT...GOD BLESS HIM
It makes you think of what might have been had he not had all those knee injuries! If he had the same mobility in the pros as he had in college, he may have been the best ever! f only they had the surgical techniques back then as they have now, what a shame!
These fools saying namath was overated they didn't throw the ball alot back then especailly at bama it was run the ball play defense Joe namath was hell of an athlete
Amazing. It's clearer than the Zapurder film isn't it. Maybe they can get back on the man train and show old Joe chewing some Redman during practice. Fucking candy asses nowdays.
Joe Namath and Johnny Unitas would be the two best QBs in the NFL in 2024. They had the best skill sets in football history and all of the modern rules favor offense. His TD and interception totals are meaningless. His coach preferred to use his halfbacks and tailbacks to score touchdowns instead. He liked to throw long on third down to count as a punt instead. He didn't care about analytics and fake modern padded statistics.
Seeing Joe Willie running option stuff out of wishbone is beyond cool.
One of the most beautiful releases I’ve ever seen. Wonder how his career would’ve turned out without the various injuries…
Joe had the quickest relief ever. Young QB's should try to find and watch some old video and model their throwing motion after his. He was grear!!
@@jamesspalten5977I stumbled across the video. I decided to watch it solely because I wanted to see his throwing motion. It’s effortlessly quick.
@@jamesspalten5977 Marino’s was very quick also. D-linemen in his era always talked about how quick he got rid of the ball.
Yeah that's the ticket, he was awful because of the injuries.
Wow, he certainly was mobile in college, not so much in the pros.
Joe was complete QB, ahead of his time. Vision, arm strength, foot speed, & toughness.

He could run! - so different looking compared to his Jets days with his legs taped up and stiff running.
Broadway Joe had some serious running ability in college. Wasn’t aware. 😮
There will never be another Joe!
Best natural QB ever. Great footwork, peripheral vision, arm, touch, release. On and on. And in college he ran like a running back.
Look at Joe Go ,WOW ,very cool to see , ...... Joe Willie
Joe was a great athlete with a great arm. Too bad he played when he did. He would have been among the greats I think if he played in modern times.

High praise indeed....
He said that Sonny Jurgensen was the best passer he had ever seen when he coached the Redskins in 1969.😊
Wow, unreal seeing Joe with two good wheels, man was he quick. Almost sounds like Dandy Don Meredith narrating?
That was Coach Bryant, probably from his television show in which he would comment on the game
@@michaelrich4357 - thanks.
Joe is a good guy! How do I know? We were friends at The University of Alabama!
Roll Tide ! That must have been nice.
@@jimdep6542 It was and our paths have crossed many times since Bama.
He threw beautiful arching passes with accuracy.
Love Broadway Joe , he was a great player and did a lot for football at any level .

Wow, Namath was great and what a runner ! Too bad his knees got damaged . He was one tough guy !
Broadway Joe had some legs back in college football.
Wow! Did not know he could run like that 😮
It's great to see Joe run
Joe was a very mobile QB until
he tore his knee up at Bama. I loved watching him run that option! Great stuff! 👍🏻
Thanks, I agree 100%. He had a long run in this video that proves it.
@@downsouthhighlights That run against LSU was the gimpy, post-injury Joe Namath. A few weeks earlier he hurt his knee and was never the same.
Joe Namath when he had legs.
Joe Namath running?
Kenny Stabler also went to Alabama he was my favorite
1962 Alabama went 10-1 with thier only loss to Georgia tech. With a score of 7-6 , they could of been national champion's
epic luv it broadway friggin joe

Before the knees went
Joe was a great QB on the college and pro levels but if I had to go the length of the field with no timeouts I'm putting my money on "THE SNAKE"

Before his knees failed him joe Namath could run pretty well
I love youuuu, i could just kiss you right now.
😂😂
@@downsouthhighlightsHe did! To a WHOLE lot of women!
The video needs its valve lash adjusted and an oil change.
😂
Worst player in the HOF.
