The Michael Parkinson interview alongside Dame Judi Dench and Sharon Osborne was a 20 minute tour de force of comedic genius. One of the the most enjoyable and funny 20 minutes in chat show history.
‘They found me a better seat’ - classic one liner in every sense. Dame Edna’s facial expressions are just as funny as her words. Brilliant entertainer sorely missed.

An absolute genius. The range of nuance and protrayal and delivery and their development through the years, brilliant. It always amazed me how one man could 'inhabit' Edna AND Les without letting one gleam through the other. There are plenty of interviews when it's easy to forget that these weren't real people (one of my favourite examples is the Clive Anderson interview of SIr Les "Well, it dates back, Clive, but you're a bit of a prober...").
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face..
I had the privilege of seeing Barry Humphries ( Dame Edna and Les Paterson) live, twice. He was my absolute all time favorite and reminds me of all the laughs my dad and I shared, watching him. On ya Bazza!

It's just amazing that Edna could go up against some of the biggest names in showbiz and not only hold her own, but own the stage. Joan Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Liza Minnelli, Joan Collins, Judi Dench, etc. were all in awe of her wit and chutzpah.
Losing Lily and now Edna is a gut punch. Barry was a comedy genius. His timing as Edna was always SPOT ON. Not much needs to be said, it’s all in the face the mannerisms, the pregnant pauses. Will be so missed but left a massive legacy behind. Those are big glasses to fill! Also reading Joan Rivers to filth takes courage!
Like Paul O'Grady, gone but never, ever to be forgotten. One of the *_very_* best of all time. Never overshadowed by anyone and, as you said, with the most fantastic sense of comic timing. Nobody - not even the legendary Joan Rivers - was immune from creasing up after a withering look or apparently throwaway comment. I actually had a "Barry Humphries Day" about a year ago (which in reality lasted the best part of 3 days, such is the wealth of content he put out - and I barely scratched the surface of his 70 years of material!) and I'm so glad I did. Just to remind myself of just how good he actually was. "Genius" is an overused epithet these days, but - Christ on a bendy bus - this man deserves that monicker like very few others. They are big glasses to fill, but sadly I don't think they ever will be. Anyway, in a completely empty gesture which achieves absolutely nothing whatsoever, thank you Barry.
@@Ainzleeriddell "Lily" was Lily Savage, created and played by Paul O'Grady (who also sadly passed away recently). A MUCH more coarse and expletive-laden character than Dame Edna but equally as hilarious. There are many, many videos on YT. If you like Edna you'll probably love Lily!

I saw a televised Andre Rieu concert from the Sydney Opera House, Dame Edna came on and was so funny I thought Rieu would have a heart attack. Absolutely unique. I saw him on stage in London and his stamina and invention were incredible.
Joan Rivers and Michael Parkinson were brilliant at interviewing the wonder that was Dame Edna. They never tried to overshadow her, which would have been impossible. Thank you, Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson for brightening up our lives.

Here's one of his stories (slightly paraphrased by me) from his early childhood growing up in Melbourne, a very upper-middle class and staid community. On his street lived an extremely prim and proper family in the traditional mould: stay at home mother, banking executive father doing his daily 9-5, only child little girl, about 5 or 6. Being on her own, she got bored quite easily. She was allowed to play on the front lawn, but was strongly forbidden to venture beyond those boundaries. However, one day, something exciting happened. On the vacant plot next door on the other side of the chainlink fence, some builders turned up and started to lay the foundations for a new house. Of course, the girl was fascinated: so much more interesting than her dollies and other toys. She observed intently everything the guys did going about their duties. They in turn noticed her and idly chatted every now and again. The mother observed all this, and talked privately with the foreman, who invited the little one over as a 'helper'. Overjoyed!! So for the next days and weeks, instead of a pretty dress, she put on 'work clothes & wellies' and did a few 'safe' jobs with the labourers for a couple of hours each day; Mother instructed her not to make a nuisance of herself by asking too many questions and be as quiet as possible and to do as she was told. She was in her element at smoko (breaktime), pretending to be Mother and pouring the tea for all the lads, listening intently to their conversations. Eventually, after a couple of weeks the guys had a whipround, and on their payday presented her with an envelope with a few dollars inside so she wouldn't feel left out. Little girl was ecstatic, and ran home to her mummy with it and wanted to go and buy some new toys. However, her mother was careful and cautious and told her they would have to open a bank account and pay it in for a 'rainy day'. (Girl was confused and didn't understand as they were always sunny days in that part of Australia.) So next day they went into town to visit her father's bank. Of course, the female teller recognised them and said to her: "Wow, so much money! Where did you get it from?" "I've been working on building a house next door. These are my wages!!" "Gosh! You're such a big girl now. Was it hard work?" "Oh, not too bad, thank you for asking." "Did you learn a lot?" "Yes, I think one day, when I grow up, I might join that profession." "And are you going to be doing any more building soon?" "Well, we will if the fucking bricks ever turn up. And we're going to be demanding more pay from that bloody bastard big boss!!"

Oh how I wish the Jay Leno with Nicole Kidman and the Dame interview could resurface. If you ever want to watch someone squirm as much as Nicole, this is the clip...
Any and all clips of Edna and his other characters could have been used here. Humphries was always hilarious and nobody else even came close to the razor wit and intelligence he routinely used to wipe the floor with anyone unlucky enough to be present .
Dame Edna was the biggest drag queen in the world for decades. Only RuPaul comes close to the global reach of this possum, and Ru really didn’t reach that level until like 2010…decades after Edna found success.
This is drag queen at their best...not gyrating in skimpy clothing in front of babies......The UK loved our Edna and Savage. Not sure why they are dragging drag queens into this trans ideology movement... Rip to both these treasures. I was just a kid growing up when they were active and will always remember them.
Why do you care? Are trans people hurting you? How about letting folk just be who they are without freaking out for nothing. It"s not an "ideology movement" (whatever the hell that means). It's people what people are. Diverse. Now back to Dame Edna. Yup. Funny as hell, like Suzy Izzard.

Copyright blocked most. There's so much amazing content out there. Dame Edna was a remarkable character
Has there ever been a greater ambassador for Australia? She/he should get a state funeral.

Its a script it follows...no wit involved!
I laughed so hard at this part 05:26 that I had tears in my eyes.
If you can get hold of his autobiography (title escapes me) from the library or bookshop/online, it is WELL worth reading.
I can't believe it......
Dame Edna was SOOO BRILLIANT!!! xoxoxoxoxo
