Although Mark Paston was an average keeper, he became world class when it mattered the most, during qualifying and the world cup itself. I will always be thankful that I got to experience viwing New Zealand at a world cup that left undeafeated because of him, and also Ryan Nelson, new zealands greatest ever defender (possibly player). This was the year when the All Whites were at thier best. Without a doubt the world cup was New Zealands greatest shock as well as sporting momment overall in my opinion. So glad I got to witness it.

Paston was fantastic at the World Cup. He's a great shot-stopper and his size has its advantages. That being said, he has a tendancy to be inconsistent. He's often indecisive when deciding to leave his line or not, and often just flaps a hand at crosses that should be caught or punched clear. He's also been caught flat-footed on more than one occasion. But boy, he was a hero on Nov 14 2009, and he was a legend in South Africa. Forever thankful.
