I'm tunisian, so i just wanna clarify something about anchoring and the problems with things that come with it, so basically most of the ports in tunisia r dedicated to fishing and we have huge problem of illegal immigration that happens during the nights so u can have a better understanding of the issues that u faced here.♥
@@MouhibElHajji Thanks very much for your comment. Yes, I tried to convey that in the video; that illegal immigration was a hit problem for Tunisia and the coastguards. I understand that most of the ports are dedicated to fishing, maybe I should have made it more clear that I was taking a risk by going to these places, not knowing what it would be like, or if there was a place for me. Overall, the Coastguard, police, and local fishermen I met were very kind and helpful!
You have both had a very busy time and at last can get to grips with the boat/home. Use your time wisely and prioritise the projects. I am enjoying the development of this channel, deserves more views.
In Tunisia, sailors are advised to favor marinas over ports because marinas are designed to cater to recreational vessels, offering secure moorings, amenities like water, electricity, and showers, as well as staff experienced in assisting international sailors with customs and communication. In contrast, ports are primarily focused on commercial or fishing activities, lacking the infrastructure, security, and services needed for leisure craft.
Hi, thanks for the comment! Thanks for the info, we came to figure something like this out eventually. Upon reflection on the stays at fishing ports, it’s actually very accommodating of the authorities and fishing ports to allow cruisers to stay when they are in need.
For our 46ft/14.1m, it was typically between 100-150 Tunisian dinars per night, which is about $40-47USD. For the smaller fishing port it was more like more like $15. Per month in the high season it was 2000-2300 Tunisian dinars and low season about 1500. 6 months of wintering in Hammamet was 8000 Tunisian Dinar
funnily enough i'm from kelibia and i was at the port when you were docking i wondered why would foreign sailors dock here with a leisure craft because the only people that dock something other than fishing boats there are locals it's actually very nice from the autherities to let dock there because always if anything happens they take the blame because of the illegal migration crisis , everyone sadly migrates through tunisia and the tunisian coast guard is the one doing all the work against it so i defenitly don't blame them for making it hard for you to stay there , but i hope you had wonderful time anyway .
Yes, I understand it must be hard with the pressure from governments regarding the immigration crisis. We definitely appreciated the kindness of the authorities at Kelibia, and didn’t realise it was such an uncommon thing to do; we asked the administration at Hammamet to call ahead to inform them, so we thought it was normal! We really appreciate the accommodating nature of the officials at Kelibia, and Tunisia in general!
@@AbrilandRyan glad you had a good experience , if you ever come back to tunisia try to establish some contacts with the locals and the coast guard because it's not illegal to anchor but they mostly only allow people that they know so nothing goes wrong .
Hi thanks for the comment! It was the only time that happened to us in Tunisia. We did have dinar, the waiter was trying to say that the price was in US dollars, therefore the amount in dinar should have been much more. Most of the time we had a good experience with restaurants!
@@AbrilandRyan We’re sorry for the attempted scam. You should have given us the name of the café and perhaps also the time and date so we can avoid such a bad experience.
Hi thanks for the comment. My apologies, didn’t mean to diminish the importance of the Carthaginian empire, but rather was just explaining that the two sites we visited was built (partially, of course) by Romans. Sorry if I’ve got my facts not quite right!
Hi, I didn’t not mean to suggest that Tunisian food is not clean, my apologies if it appeared that way. I also stated that it was “the likely place” where my dad got ill, because of the timing and maybe because there were several cats on top of the table when we arrived, so yes, probably our own fault for not asking someone to clean the top or changing table. I have had many excellent meals in Tunisia, I didn’t mean any offence.
@@abidiiyadh8912 hi thanks for the comment! Yes, I think so! We needed some good local knowledge/advice! We got some really good recommendations once we got to Hammamet, but before then, we didn’t know the best spots!

Cool trip, neat highlights, tough emigration situation
Thanks! Yes, a lot of red tape but, judging by other stories we heard over there, our experience was very smooth! Really fascinating place to cruise.
Buy a long wooden plank to put between the fenders and the wall. This prevents scratches on the boat.
@@Marcel-J thanks for the comment! Yeah, that would be a useful thing to have
How much in average do you pay for marina fees in Tunesia?

Apologies for any inaccuracies, only meant to say that much of ruins were from a Roman Carthage.
I think that you have chosen badly your restaurants..
