Here's a new segment I've wanted to do for awhile. Reviewing a film in-depth and with spoilers upon second viewing in the style of my analyzed reviews. Often times our opinions can change when seeing a film a second time, sometimes for better or worse. Let's see how Once Upon a Time in Hollywood holds up.

Speaking of foreshadowing... the scene where Brad Pitt makes eye contact with the hitch hiking Manson girl, but turns her down, as he's driving away we see the store she's sitting out in front of is called "Pandora's Box." Could be a coincidence, but since we know that Tarantino throws a lot of subtle details into his scenes, I have to imagine this was intentional and foreshadowing the trouble Cliff was going to step into the moment he decides to give that girl a ride back to the ranch. Just a fun detail I spotted on my second viewing.

Not to mention it carrys the same momentum of a Paul Thomas Anderson film. Slow burn and lots of discussion to wonder what is going to be next. Many won't appreciate it because everyone today wants the biggest and best selling film. It's time movies become more humble and let the damn camera angles sit still a bit longer. The whole quick cut multiple angles crap is very annoying, it lessens the attention and connections.

When pointing out the earlier flamethrower scene from Dalton's ww2 movie I think you missed the main point: the reason for using the flamethrower there and then again at the end of the movie was for Tarrantino to more or less directly equate the Manson kids to nazis, and to say that they deserved nothing better than what nazis deserve. Fair to say Tarrantino seems pretty worked up about what they did - I've never seen any movie, or any director, be this mad about something before. It was truly cathartic; in the best way possible.

To me, it almost feels like 3 hours of just "hanging about" with your mates. Meandering from scene to scene, not a lot going on half the time, seemingly inconsequential conversations. The whole scene with Sharon Tate in the movie theatre. Sort of throwaway, not desperate needed BUT because of that and because of how sweet and innocent Margot Robbie plays the character it's just a joy to watch !!!

His career is dying and hers is rising. She could have been the next big star. Rick has shown promise of evolving but most likely it was too little too late. Maybe he could make it but most likely he wouldn't. Raymond Watt It’s just great to see that the old masters have the confidence to release films like these. One breaks his mold and makes a character and location piece with no real action until the last 30 minutes, the other a 3 1/2 hour long crime epic full of remorse and sadness. We must look out for the next Tarantino or Scorsese in order to keep the true spirit of film alive.

This is sort of foreshadowing, but foreshadowing generally hints at events to come through subtle, yet noticeable ominous throwaway lines or events. In this case I think it's more of a Chekov's gun, or in this film specifically, Chekov's flamethrower and Chekov's dog lmao! But yeah definitely not "hidden exposition" lolz

Foreshadowing is correct terminology for those scenes. "Hidden exposition", if such a formal term existed, would presumably relate to the stealth introduction of backstory (not foreshadowing.) Good exposition is organic and natural to the scene, not necessarily invisible.

I LOVE how the opening episode of Bounty Law parallels the final showdown against the Manson Gang. Dalton's character "never brings them in alive," at least not when there are "three of them and one of me." But Dalton's character is lying: there are two of him. We see this again at the end of the film. Three people show up at Rick's house wanting to kill him, but they end up having a fight with his stunt double, only for Dalton to come in at the end for the glory (flame thrower moment). Things end with the stunt double leaving in an ambulance while Rick brags about how things went to his neighbors. The final battle is a reflection of his working relationship with Booth. It's fucking great.

She was playing a composite of Nancy Pitman and Ruthann Moorehouse, two very young Manson followers who, though not directly involved in the famous murders, based on the information available were both super light and fun as well as serious and dangerous. Nancy would later be involved in the murder in northern california of a young couple who had an infant daughter, and who hooked up with her and some latter day Manson followers, who by then were cohabiting with prison-hardened white supremacist types. Ruthann was busted for intentionally overdosing another Manson girl with an LSD laced hamburger in Hawaii, in an effort to stop her from testifying against the Manson followers facing trial for the Tate murders. Just watched this last night. Not a Tarantino fan at all but I enjoyed it a lot overall. Easily my favorite film by him. I really enjoyed Margot Robbie's performance and was surprised that you called it out as a weak point in your first video. The contrast of the simple documentation of her carefree and joyful life with what we understood to be her ultimate fate created the tension you thought the film lacked. I really liked how her scene were mostly wordless and storyless, or at least didn't really contain any dialogue that relevant to the overall plot. Her life felt like a beautiful fairy tale which made the images in our minds of her fate all the more shocking. For me at least. I also thought the ending was really moving and showed an emotional tenderness that's unique for Tarantino.
