When I was 11 years old, I was a confirmed "Germanophile" I had this very record, I had ordered through a catalog (No internet obviously) I drove my sisters and parents crazy playing this album over and over again.
@ todd holmes ...until they learn some german, I presume??!!! That was their punishment : You will listen to this record until you will be able to utter some german words and phrases with correct pronunciation!!!
@@aigleroyal3941 I can't speak for my parents and sisters, but I studied the German language, as well as reading every book I could get my hands concerning German history, from the medieval period right up the formation of the Democratic Republic of Germany. I visited southern Germany twice. I still remain a Germanophile to this day.
My father often woke us up for weekend breakfasts by playing this record. This brings back very cherished memories. Mere words cannot express my thankfulness. Superb!
My Mom was German and we 11 kids were German- Irish. She didn't like that we "celebrated our Irish heritage", so she bought German music tapes to play in the car. We had to listen to it when we rode with her. NONE of us understood German, but that didn't deter her. I notice some of the marches were "Sousa-esque".
My record just cracked; but I had ripped this beforehand - your recording is a much better one than mine! It was a gift to me from my great-grandfather; probably belonged to his father, who was from Hannover.
I had this album as a teenager, more than sixty years ago. The Norddeutscher March Band was better than most postwar ensembles, which usually paled by comparison with Third Reich performers, because spirit was missing from the Bundeswehr shills of the occupation Allies. Anyway, a nice surprise, seeing and hearing this old Somerset album.
Heh dude! At least I wasn't the only teenager who would rather listen to this, as opposed to Black Sabbath, or Jethro Tull! Too bad they didn't have social back then, we could have been "Kameraden".
WWI was not started by gobalists and stock brokers...it was the inevitable conclusion of imperialism. Bismark is credited as saying, "Europe today is a powder keg and the leaders are like men smoking in an arsenal … A single spark will set off an explosion that will consume us all … I cannot tell you when that explosion will occur, but I can tell you where … Some damned foolish thing in the Balkans will set it off." Why do the songs sound so happy...because patriots believe they are fighting for God, country, family, and friend...and are celebrating the privilege to defend their way of life. Bismark also said, "anyone who has once looked into the glassy eyes of a dying warrior on the battle-field would think twice before beginning a war."
Is it just me or are the names severly off? 3 isn't the Petersburger Marsch but instead the Pariser Einzugsmarsch and 4 isn't the Pariser Einzugsmarsch? Something is off there i think. Edit: I think i solved it! You can se the correct listing on the picture shown. You just have to remove Petersburger Marsch.

@@toddholmes4480 I used to be a germanophile myself, when I was at schoolage. Now, not any more!
@@aigleroyal3941 Okay. Good for you!
My grandparents' have this record, and being a history buff I am now keen to getting an old record player 😁
When I was a kid, my dad had this same record. Thought I'd never hear it again.

Only in that sense.
I'm Brazilian and I really like the German marches. They are vibrant and the melodies stick in the mind.
Are you one of the "Boys from Brazil"?
@@toddholmes4480 Fool, Fool. Fool🔼🤣
MY great grandmother used to play this when she was babysitting me, glad to hear it again after many years, thank you.
Correct Naming of the Marsches:
4. Pariser Einzugsmarsch (7:03)
5. Fehrbelliner Reitermarsch (8:29)
Danke! I was quite perplexed.
Vielen Dank für diese schönen Märsche unserer Heimat! Merci 🌹😊

I too own this record. Not really sure why my parents had it.
red flag, but in a good way.
No record collection is complete without at least one German marches LP
Fur Gott, Konig und Vaterland!
I also own this record with many others.
It is about 60-70 years old.
It is wonderful.
It is (now) sixty years since its release in the US, which took place in 1961. Seventy years is definitely exaggerated!
We had this record when I was a kid.
It belonged to my dad.
1961 is 60 years ago, I was born in 1960.
Don't make me too old, I'm only 61.
Excellent versions of many of my favourites. Greetings from ein Englander in Australie !!
The Spirit with which these marches are played is amazing ! In these recording you can actually hear all the notes intertwined... just great !
This is great. We used to play this during Stratego.
Очень красивая музыка,-нравится однозначно, исполнение отличное и запись музыки тоже!!!!😮❤❤❤❤😊 Александр Одессит

Siempre me han gustado las marchas militares alemanas, no me canso de escucharlas.
I like it, because its got some of the best marches.

As a kid, I listened to this very album that my dad had in the 70s. All classics of good old Prussian Germany. You know, before the Nazis showed up.
Ja... Liebst du die deutsches Musik jetzt?
Sehr schöne Musik 👂👂🫡
Such happy music! No way these people could perpetrate a couple world wars! I just wanna hang out and drink beer! And eat sausages!
the wars were caused by globalists and stock brokers
