- Located in northwest Indiana about a half hour south of Indiana Dunes, Valparaiso, Indiana is a great city for spending an evening. As a campus town, home to Valparaiso University, Valpo has plenty of restaurants to check out and some beautiful scenery from the Porter County Courthouse to the Central Park Plaza where you will see a statue of Orville Redenbacher, co-creator of Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping Corn. I later check out the campus of Valparaiso University. I also reveal the name of my GorillaPod! I originally asked all of you to pick a name for my GorillaPod, and I reveal the winning name!

Thank you so much for picking my name! It was the coolest name I could come with, and I'm glad you liked it. Keep up the more than awesome work!
Thank you again for the name suggestion! The other names were great too! Thanks for watching!
Great name choice Mungojerry!! ScottPod rocks.
I'm first. Looks like a nice little town. I saw Orville Redenbacher at the same restaurant I was at in Coronado, CA, shortly before he passed away. He looked the same, in a fancy suit and bow tie. My ex-mother-in-law went to the university so many years ago. Thanks for the video and cool name for the pod.
For sure! I was quite impressed with Valpo. It was cool that you got to meet Orville Redenbacher. If I would have met him, it probably would have awkward as I would have likely said, "Hey, I like your popcorn!" Thanks for watching!
Another very enjoyable video!
Thanks for taking the time to do it
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Ah yes valpo
I live in Valparaiso
Valpo native here. Some interesting facts. What you call the county courthouse is a city building now, I believe it only houses traffic court now, there is a new county courthouse around the way. The city / county courthouse wasnt flat originally, it looked identical to the one in laporte and crown point with a huge clock tower but the roof fell into disrepair and it was renovated into that.... grey box. We used to have pigeons in the old courthouse area and plaza until one winter in the late 80's when it got so cold they all died. Now only seagulls and crows. The street art you show I saw them paint, the mailman is mark the mail man a now retired mail carrier that had my neighborhood of hilltop which is next to the university. He delivered me then my dads mail till my dad passed. Valpo is not a campus town, in fact until the late 60's valpo was incredibly small and was a farming town. The univeristy wasnt connected into the city until the 70's by new development of the hill top area and the lincoln way sprawl out to the 49 bypass. The university was also much smaller. As the town grew around the uni, they placed the hospital I was born at, porter memorial in the hilltop area. The university built around the hospital and by the late 70's the hospital and uni were in town and the uni exploded in growth in the early 21st century they bought the hospital and expanded the uni into the area the hospital was. They also knocked down half of the hilltop area and built the uni right on top of us increasingly angry hilltop residents. I moved outta town after that, but the neighborhood and city stopped the uni from tearing down any more of the neighborhood. Valpo has about 40k people in the area, and they dont really mix with the university. So Its a town that absorbed the college into it. Another interesting fact is valpo has a huge and high quality public school system which ironically, outsizes the college.
Thank you for sharing this information! This is very useful information. It is interesting how the university is not really embedded with the rest of the town. It wouldn't surprise me if other towns are the same way too.
Like the music in this vlog - brings out a nice atmosphere. Nice time lapse Scott. Great to see that you are enjoying the Gorilla Pod - they sure are a neat bit of kit. Street art is pretty cool and interesting we agree. Scott-Pod is by far the best name - love it 😎😍
The ScottPod has been quite awesome, and it is great for vlogging, photography, and even time-lapse! Valparaiso is a very cool city in northwest Indiana! Thanks for watching!
Valpo 👍
hey! I just found out today after 21 years living here that there is a place named after my hometown, pretty much far from home.
greetings from Valpo, Chile :)
I thought that was really neat too! Thanks for watching!
I watched this video while eating popcorn! 🍿
That's the spirit! Thanks for watching!
i love that both in Chile and The USA we call it Valpo😂 but y'all's Valpo is way cleaner than ours😅
It's popping the top right off the popper!
Gotta love that Orville Redenbacher Gourmet Popping Corn!
Far enough away but close enough to Chicago. Many Chicago area residents moved there.
Very true!

You can make a lot of great travel delights in Houston Texas but don’t go in the summer.
For sure! I lived in Houston for four years when I was a kid, and I remember spending most of my time either in air conditioning or at the swimming pool. The restaurants are supposed to be fantastic, and I would love to go back down again hopefully in the winter as my grandmother and aunt would love that!
Scottman895 Travel I live in Houston.
Very cool! I was born here in Michigan until my parents and I moved to Houston before my 5th birthday. We then moved back to the Metro Detroit area on my 9th birthday. I have lived in Michigan ever since. Houston is a fantastic city with the exception of the summer heat and the heavy rush hour traffic. With the exception of the winters, Michigan is my preferred favorite of the two.
Val-pah-rah-iso
I live two blocks from that museum
Same
Valparaiso Or Valpo
U.S.A and Chile
Valapraiso looks like a nice little small town like Mayberry. At least it dont got no round abouts. I hate those.
What's a mayberry? Is it like a dingleberry? My dog used to get those. I just got rid of em by picking them off and then I ate it. Delish.
@@barnsguzzman Dude your just grose.
Valparaiso is a nice town. Although I didn't see roundabouts there, I'm used to them as there are a lot in Michigan. I can understand the frustration behind them however. Thanks for watching!
@@scottman895 Valpo has at least six roundabouts, three are on Vale Park Drive within 1/2 mile. I love them.
@@johngulyas5949 Awesome! I like roundabouts, but I will admit that you have to get used to them before you can see the benefits of them.
I’m gonna hug u dt
Do u live here
I do not.
Nice video. You missed several things however. The first are the new "upscale" housing projects Valpo has invested in while affordable housing is virtually impossible to find. Second, the poor condition of the roads in older, smaller sections of the city. In some areas (mine for instance) you cannot drive in or out of your driveway without bottoming out. I'm on my second new radiator now. Maybe I will just buy some asphalt and fix the road myself. That would be less expensive than a new radiator for my car. The city's promises for years are not believed anymore.
Yikes! The roads sound like how they are here in Michigan as Michigan has a lot of potholes. Hopefully it gets better soon!
I wanted to learn (mostly see) about Valparaiso, IN from this video - unfortunately you spend a HUGE amount of the time NOT filming the city or its people, but rather your own face. We can hear you in the audio, no one really needs to see your face as you talk. Poorly done chap.
I do agree that I need to show myself less and show more of the scenery in the videos than I did especially with these. However, if you are referring to not showing myself at all, I have to disagree with you. Most travel vloggers and content creators tend to show themselves on camera to provide that authentic feel. Therefore, I have no plans to stop showing myself on video. Of course, I need to make sure not have too much of me in it as it does take away from the destination. I've been doing better at that in more recent videos, but I will keep this in mind moving forward though. Thank you for the feedback!
