I like your review. I truly appreciate when you showed us how the viewfinder looks in different modes. It was a missed opportunity for Nikon by not including the matrix metering on the manual mode. That is the mode I normally use.
Great review. That little hand grip is super hard to find and when you do find it, it's pricey! I bought an FA off eBay and it was far cheaper to buy a motor drive to hang onto than that little grip at $70.
Thanks for another fun video. I am enjoying your humor. Trying to decide between the FM, FE and FA as they are pretty close in price. Looks like the FA has it all. This is an exciting time to be shopping for film cameras. Thanks!
'Matrix metering' is the real plus for this camera. I have several Nikon 35mm SLR cameras ..and they all have center-weighted metering which generally works great but you have to be mindful of strong light points in the frame..strong backlighting situations in particular the matrix metering can help to get proper exposures in those situations. With 'difficult' lighting conditions I find myself having to take exposure readings of several spots in the frame and 'averaging' the exposure settings with my center-weighted metering cameras..the matrix metering effectively does that for you. I have a Nikon FG which has a very similar size and form factor but certainly the FA adds on a whole bunch more options and bang for the buck.
It was certainly a tech milestone. I had ir but didn't get to use it as much over my F2AS / F3P. But more so lolwd the modern ISO hot shoe & TTL flash to mainstream. It had a ADR window ro see aperture direct readout on lens. Easy on daylight bitni don't remember if it had an led for night as the F4 did.
Great overview, I have one in the mail from KEH, wondering why they don’t have matrix metering for manual mode, that’s pretty much all I use on my digital cameras I guess I’ll have to step up and start using A and S modes.
The FA has “cybernetic override” in P and shutter modes. Will it let you blur the water of a waterfall? The override takes over your chosen shutter speed to make a ‘better’ exposure…
from looking at the online manual for the A1, it does seem like they have a lot in common: Shutter priority, aperture priority, full program mode, etc. Thanks for watching my video!!
It's also funny to hear the American pronounciation of "lever"; British/Aus/NZ pronounciation is as rhymes with 'beaver" but then we say "never" as in the American pronouciation!

Thanks for watching my video, and for commenting!
Very good professional review. The best one for this camera model.
Thanks for watching my video Alexey! I'm glad you liked it!!

Useful review, thanks!
What's your opinion on the reliability of the FA?
Bump. Comments?
Hi, Great review and I like the way you show every feature and function, very helpful.
Thanks Tom! I really appreciate it!

Matrix Metering was put in so you wouldn’t need a use for ae lock.
true. Thanks for watching my video!!

The FA can use both the MD-12 and MD-15 drives. The 12 is slower than the 15 but they both work fine. The FA is a real sleeper camera value wise.
Very similar to the Canon A1?

The FA has an exposure lock function. It’s called MANUAL mode 😂.
At one point you said you love the camera due to its familiarity , But I’ve heard familiarity breeds contempt , So?
Stop saying Lever man, its a dial. Not everything that turns is a lever.
