    I am not sure if you know, but the designer for Barbie Looks, Bill Greening, also designed the Barbie Basics collection! Looks is considered by some to be the 'spiritual successor' to Basics! Just wanted to share this with you! :)

    As an adult doll collector THE LOOKS line speaks to me!!! I love how simple their outfits are throughout the entire line so far. As someone who loves minimalist style and fashion these outfits are beautiful. Perfect to mix and match with other dolls and can be easily dresses up with accessories.

    I've been considering grabbing a Looks doll to model some of the deranged mid-90s Barbie fashion packs I have from childhood 😂 They're so beautiful and serious that I think they could pull them off.

    I am slowly unboxing this wave on my channel(I am uploading them slowly but I actually already got all of them out). I am surprised how much I liked 15 and 16. I even originally skipped 16 but she now may be my fave! I love the buff Ken sooooo much that I got 3 of him! :D
    I have all but two. I am so sad about the two I missed out on.
    They are all lovely and I will try to get the ones I missed out on. And I am not completionist collector! To me they are hands down the best Barbie line EVER. Like EVER.
    I am mtm fanatic, tho, so that may have something to do with it. :D
    You can not swap the shoes too easy since the tall and curvy dolls have bigger feet and so shoes. So they will not fit the shoes of the regular and petite.

    I have #16, which I got from Amazon Canada, and she also has darker knees. It is repeated problem that pops up on MTM dolls. I love the Looks line, and it's hard to choose a favourite. I think #14, #16, #11 (the redhead in the video), and #1 (the brunette Latina) are at the top for me.

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  Год назад +3

      In the sample set that I have collected, which has been quite a few... I haven't really observed that to be the case. I had... one curvy doll, one petite doll and one tall doll prior to this video among my 50 modern playline Barbies and that isn't from a lack of trying ^^;

    • @Quietboywasted
      @Quietboywasted Год назад +1

      @@xCanadensis at least, the fashionistas line is pretty good about it. I guess that and Barbie extra are the two that pop into my head. I think Barbie extra hasn’t been as good about it. Typically it’s curvy or regular Barbie that I’ve noticed.

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  Год назад +7

      I'm mostly into Extra. My only Petite prior to this was a Fashionista so that checks out. It's weird they don't do it more in Extra... I think it would be appreciated across the board? It's SO novel and exciting to have dolls from the same series that aren't all the exact same body- it's just unrealistic

    • @Quietboywasted
      @Quietboywasted Год назад +2

      @@xCanadensis yeah I’d agree. The diversity is what makes Barbie looks exciting to me too. I have alot of Barbie extra too, and I don’t know if they’ve done tall or petite?? And I’m also not sure if they have pivotal in those sizes just…in general.

    • @c.w.2000
      @c.w.2000 Год назад +2

      @@Quietboywasted Not that I have seen: just regular and curvy Extras. Also, I don't think there is a pivotal in tall or petite, and I would love those, since I generally like the pivotal body better. Still, I grew up 40 years ago, so I am giddy with all the choices now, even it's not "perfect".

  • @LifeOfTheAngels
    @LifeOfTheAngels Год назад +4

    The Barbie looks dolls are almost perfect, I just wish they’d make the clothing pieces better quality instead of just cutting up patterns on the same two fabrics to throw on the dolls, at least the older Barbie basics lines had actual jean fabric and cute simple pieces that were more versatile, and it’s crazy how Barbies from 20 years ago are more fashionable than the ones they’re currently releasing, like the older lines kinda had a grown and chic quality to it, whereas the new fashions have a very cheap quality, which is annoying bc we know Mattel is capable of giving quality fashion bc they do it with those $100 Barbie style dolls, why can’t they do it with the basic Barbies they market to adults, mind you I’m pretty sure they’ve maintained the same designer so idkw got lost in translation but they need to go back to the drawing board

    • @c.w.2000
      @c.w.2000 Год назад +1

      They can’t do it, keep the price low, and make the profit they want. So, this is what we get at this price point. If you want better clothes, it would be at least a $50 doll. To be fair to Mattel, things are different in the economy and production now than when the Basics dolls came out. How much were the Basics dolls? I wasn’t collecting then. The good thing is that people can now buy nice doll clothes on Etsy, so have a doll from Mattel and getting someone else to do the clothes wasn't an option 20 years ago.

    • @c.w.2000
      @c.w.2000 Год назад +2

      You kind of answered your question: a made-to-move doll with several outfit pieces in deluxe packaging is now $100. So, a Looks doll in basic packaging with a nicer outfit would be around $50, I would guess. Many collectors buy these dolls and get clothes from Etsy, which wasn't an option 20 years ago.

    I’m getting 14-16 from this wave, but I like think I will like #14 the best (I only have 15 and 16 so far). My faves from the whole line are probably #6 from wave one (the blonde with white dress) or #10 from the second wave.

I just have not gotten them all. I would love to if I find them for good prices. My little one likes the wave 1 platinum doll. I will see if she likes any of the bright color ones. She does like the boys/kens. Specifically the muscular body ones. So she may like the latest bright color muscular guy. She calls them daddy dolls. Ha ha. She loves her merman ken.

    I got the model 16 doll too and have change her clothes she still wears her shoes because I got no other shoes that fit on the larger feet of the curvy and tall dolls .
    The thing I most dislike is the curvy made to move body , it feels so bulky in the hand ... almost like an other dollline .
    I think at the moment to search at ebay for a normal or a tall made to move body for her .
    To be honest , Mattel releases too many made to move dolls with curvy bodies .... I got now at least 6 different curvy mtm dolls .
    The biggest shock for me was the Samantha Cristoforetti (NASA astronaut) doll , she's got a curvy mtm body but the real human Samantha looks more like a pettie woman .
    One other thing that makes me a little angry is that the Barbie Looks doll 19 is just a Mattel Creations exclusive doll that can only be buy with a subscribtion .... she looks great , but I will not buy her to support that new strategy of Mattel .

    • @thisbeem2714

      I quite appreciate that there are so many mtm curvy bodies. I think it will be pretty easy for you to find a light skinned skinny mtm for rebodying.

    • @paluxyl.8682
      @paluxyl.8682 Год назад +1

      @@thisbeem2714 Sure , it's easy to buy for 20 - 35 Euro a new made to move doll just for the body ...... but what should I do with with the not needed curvy (I call it thick) body and the head of the new bought Barbie ? I have tried last year to sell not needed heads and bodies at ebay , even after weeks was most stuff not gone.
      In the case of the blonde Looks doll with the curls , the doll has cost me 34 Euro + 4 Euro for shipping ... a new normal body mtm doll would cost me at least 20 Euro + 4 Euro for shipping ....... that means to have a Barbie that I like would cost me at least 62 Euro , that are $67
      I think that it's not bad that Mattel produces different bodytypes , but they should reduce the amount . In the case of the Barbie Looks dolls , 1 of 8 female dolls should be only with a curvy body instead 2 of 8 female dolls in a year .

      @@paluxyl.8682 Well, ok. I can see how it is a bummer to have to spend money on two dolls to get the one doll you want. Still, one quarter of the series having a different body type does not seem unreasonable.
