i love how kind and gentle he was to the elderly woman very loving
J'adore comment il porte de l'attention a cette dame. C'est vraiment trop mignon.
I love how Bowie looks out of place-- 10 years ahead of his time - his look would kickstart the 80s while everyone else looks of the time this is filmed.
He was a man of sound and vision
Report for TF1 (first French Channel), 18th of May 1976
Here is my translation, form French to English:
Presenter: But before that, I'm inviting you to discover with us special footage dedicated to one of the men who is not a politician -this time there won't be a battle of ideas but a musical battle-, but one of the men who is breaking the news in terms of pop music : it's David Bowie.
(Life on mars playing) Title in French:"David Bowie or Natacha's dream"
Old woman (She must be Natacha. I don't fully understand everything she says because she phrases her sentences in a strange way and she has a strong accent from the country): I always have been in the artistic world, I grew up in it. I danced and played the piano from age five to age twenty.
(Station to Station playing)
Old woman: Then I stayed in this community, that's how I met a lot of British artists. So I have many friends in England, and that's how I had the chance, once, to see David, because the people who invited me used to take me out in London. So David was a very young teenager, not famous at all. When I saw him play for the first time, he was offered a chance, he really was a teenager.
Bowie: Yes, I remember this, but not really as a musician, more as a schoolboy.
Old woman: You see, to be an artist, you must have some experience, some knowledge, of course. But it does not make someone an artist. Being an artist means having a little flame inside. And this flame, he already had it. So I believed in him, and he was very beautiful and very sincere, passionate.
(Suffragette City playing)
Old woman: At age twelve, he already played the saxophone. I have the impression that from this age onwards, he already played in small bands. I've been told that he can play about twelve instruments.
He said himself that he didn't want to be stationary. And just like that, he changes his personnality, his clothes...
(Five years playing)
Interviewer: Do you feel more like an artist or a business man?
Bowie: (laughing) An artist ! But I tell everybody I am a business man. I'm a fantaisist (That's what the translation says, but I think I can hear in English: "A chronic liar", am I right?)
Old woman: He's an idealist. He would like the liberation, he would like justice. This is what he was seeking; his researches about buddhism were a quest to find gods, as to find justice. He thinks the world is hypocritical, so he wants the liberation.
(Life on mars playing)
Interviewer: So how did you create this fan club in France?
Old woman: Well, there were some of my customers' children and children from the catechism group who were fond of pop rock music. So I gave them old records, and then they became passionate about it. There was already a core long before the group, a core of friends that I knew well and that often came to see me. So when the fan-club began, people started to write to me a little bit, then it took on enormous proportions. And you know, it does a lot for the young people, they need to be together, and there is a great brotherly love between them despite social and intellectual differences, differences in standards of living and whatnot.
(A teenager sings a song)
Old woman: It really is brotherly, and if you keep (not very clear, I don't understand what she says), you are a brother.
Now we must be about four thousand, if not more numerous.
Bowie: People... People who like me... I don't think I have the privilege to describe them at all.
(TVC15 playing)
Old woman: You see, Bowie takes the lead, that's why he is David Bowie (I'm not 100% sure she says that though). Take, for exemple, the 70s, he is not like the others.
(An Occasional dream playing, encounter between Bowie and Natacha)
Presenter: Thanks to Natacha, thanks to David Bowie for this exclusive interview for TF1; if you see David Bowie elsewhere on the television it will be second hand whereas here it was first hand; David Bowie who isn't accustomed to talking a lot but who gave an interview to Jean-Claude Emmanuel, who made this very beautiful report with the whole technical team, and to you.
English isn't my mother tongue (French is !) so feel free to tell me if you see any mistakes ! Some sentences may seem weird, but sometimes the original ones were weird too: the old woman has a distinctive way to speak , and the presenter makes long, complex sentences.
+Margaux Roussel I already see some mistakes reading it again! Sorry :)
Yes, he says chronic liar . 😂❤️
Thank You
Thanks so much for that translation. I was picking up only a little bit -- my French is mostly forgotten.
+musicisforever So cute! 😂❤
God he's beautiful.
I love the way of David pay attention to this women. That is so cutie 💕
David is so beautiful
I had the unfortunate displeasure of reading gossip concerning David Bowie... So I was in need of this, a cleansing of my soul. Thank you for this video... Reminds me of how kind and humble he was.
Do share it
What was it? Harsh and arrogant reactions?
05:07......... Look at him. His face looks like a MANIAC. Anyway, everybody's gotta love him, a legend in the music. You'll always be our HEROE... R.I.P !!! ❤❤❤🌙⭐
The pain and the vulnerability seem authentic. The Rest: Space to escape reality, a parable of death ( Major Tom ). Costumes, Art. The melancholic songs are somehow a picture of real David, the stage performance perfect Illusion.
Ah, that was David who waited for the lady outside the glass doors and put his arm around her.
I've got tears in my eyes , David we love you so much:'-)
What a wonderful story! :)
