Enemies don’t alert other enemies when they shoot during stealth punches. Sometimes stealth killing before choosing the usual first dialogue line like “give me the damn key” won’t set off the alarm. The dialogue choice will set off the alarm. Stealth is definitely overlooked in this game
My biggest gripe with stealth in this game is why give me the option and then oops u crossed the green line thst is unavoidable, or oh hey here be robots fuck you.
Dang... it saddens me to know that such a talented studio like Rogue Entertainment always got shafted by releasing unique games at VERY inopportune times. Their Quake 1 and 2 Mission Packs were fun as hell and Strife an Alice were really unique games and I'm also probably one of the few to prefer Condition Zero as the best way to enjoy CS because of the bot integration I remember the time I first got to play Strife back in 2004/05 on a pirated cd full of old dos games I got from a friend. And I was amazed by Strife as an FPS made on the same engine as doom to have such a developed storyline and basic RPG elements and multiple story endings. And until I saw Ross Scott's review of it I thought I was some of the very few people to play it because nobody I talked to or brought it up even new it existed.
Since you brought up the small number of side-quests Strife has, do you see that as a negative ? Cause from my experience with RPGs or generally games that have a lot of side activities, I find them to be just rotten filler a lot of the time. I'd rather have a small number of them that are replayable or have different outcomes rather than having a bunch of fetch/kill/delivery quest. Every time I see in an RPG another NPC drip feeding me another side-quest that distracts me from my main quest I gradually start losing interest in the game because I lose focus of the main plot. And it saddens me that most games of the sort always want to go open-world and offer so much side-content just to fill a void and the design of the world itself ultimately falls prey to being modeled as such. In short I think it's better to have fewer, better and replayable side activities that are complementary to the main story rather that having a dozen forgettable trash ones that condition you into doing chores and checking them off the list.
Yup, i agree with both your positive and negative points, especially that certain levels can be very confusing, as for ammo i usually bought some in-between missions, playing this back in '96 was a blast. also, that FOV :p
Man I can't remember how did we manage to follow what's going on the screens with these ludicrous movement speeds...I must've gotten older but I'm getting a headache from just by looking at the gameplay let alone dare playing it.
Haha, yeah, I remember going back and playing games like Blood, Hexen and even SiN for the first time and being pretty whacked out by the movement speed compared to more modern, GREY AND REALISTIC! shooters and how slow they are. But after 5 minutes, you get used to it. You can actually play old shooters as fast or as slow as you want, tap the forward key instead of holding it, peeking around corners etc.
I used to like Ross, until I got to his reviews of games I actually played... Some of the stuff he says is completely pull-out-of-the-ass false (not about opinions, but about facts of what the game does and how it does it), so in case with games I haven't played I can no longer be sure whether or not what he says is indeed truth, or he's making shit up again.
Ross is not a "professional" reviewer or anything like that. He is basically just a dude who says what he thinks about a game. And that is actually the charme of his videos. I really don't understand, why people get pissy when someone has a different opinion about a damn game. DW also has to suffer from this childish behavior all the time. Seriously, its annoying!
Revenant review is an especially prominent example. Confronted with lots of negative comments about it, he even released later "apologetic" video where he "addressed" almost none of the issues and reinstated his lies about some parts, claiming people who pointed out his BS were wrong and he was right: 1) complained about game long loading screens every 2 minutes, shows option screen where he explicitly tuned on all the options that make the game unload what was loaded and reload back as much data as possible (was intended for PCs with slow RAM at the time). When confronted about it claimed options do something completely different from what they really do. 2) Numerous times complained about the bugs that were not present on release and were result of him running game for Win98 on Windows 7, refused to install fan patches (present in GOG version by default) calling them "piracy". Went as far with the "purple text" joke as to even include it in the credit roll to hammer it down. 3)made magic system sound ridiculously convoluted, while it is in fact not, used higher level spell that could not be cast at the time to demonstrate that NO spells at all can be cast reliably. (despite it being not more different than magic system in Diablo, you just have to put explicitly described (in scrolls) string of runes together and cast spell once for it to appear in spellbook, where it can be dragged to the hotbar and used as any other spell in any action RPG ever, runes and scrolls are really had to miss and sometimes are outright given to you by quest characters.). 4) Complained about "unbeatable" fistfight boss battle for 5 (or more) minutes. Ironic since in the previous segment when he bashed magic system he scrolled right pass 2 spells the game explicitly gave him for the purpose of beating the boss - "Might" and "Fist Mastery" , that make aforementioned boss fight a cakewalk in any conditions. When confronted about it claimed magic system was so abhorrent he was never ever going to use it (despite game NPCs telling him he has to). 5) Ignored the game tutorial and as result completely ignored the combat system which is equivalent of trying to beat a Dark Souls game by running forawrd and mashing attack button as your main strategy, complained about game being so hard that he had to chug potions (well DUH, since he has not used any blocks/dodges). When confronted about it "apologized", made aforementioned "addressing" video where he admitted he missed the combos... And still complained about the game being "too hard" (and still did not use any dodges/blocks, so much for addressing his mistakes). Frater (aka Chosen) review: complained about basic mooks and everything taking too long to kill, used low level weapon on high level enemies to "demonstrate" the fact (you see the pattern of how he does this). Removed numerous comments that pointed that out. Ignored comments that say they had no such issues and he might be doing something wrong (ofc he did). etc. I used t like his viseos, but the pattern became apparent to me. I simply can not be sure anymore when his complaints are valid, and when he uses some BS to demonstrate the point that was never the issue, for the games I have not played.

The talisman power up made my life much easier. Would have ran out of ammo at the final boss otherwise.

I never had a problem with lack of healing and running out of healing items. If you take you time to look for secrets its a nonissue.

I get Hexen vibes from the way some of these levels look. Big fan of that already. Gonna have to check it out for sure.
Don't think this one showed up in my feed, good review.
Strife is awsome!
Actually this came out a month BEFORE Quake.
I specifically said it came out the same year as Quake.
Is this one of the few games you can play at a constant 1000fps? (look at the top left corner)
What would a 1000fps look on a 1000fps monitor?
I'm pretty sure "the eye can't see more than 30 fps" =))).
1000 fps might as well be the equivalent light travel.

'Being dude who just says things about the game" does not justify outright lying about it.
The heck are you talking about? Please give an example if you're making such a big accusation.
