As a regular, blue-collar worker, audiophile I really appreciate the component reviews around $500. Thank you sir.
100%. Simple is good. We're not all looking for Wilson Audio 20 grand .
There's an Audiophiliac imposter scamming my viewers, DON'T respond! I don't do giveaways or ask for money (except for my Patreon).
No worries Steve. You're pretty transparent. Meaning you're very difficult to impersonate, even digitally!
However I'll be discerning and will question if I get an offer from "you" for a free system if I will simply pay the shipping and handling.
;)
Does that come with a lottery ticket for the Brooklyn Bridge too?
Grins...
Kudos Mr. Guttenberg. I have learned so much watching and listening to your videos. I used believe I was very knowledgeable about hi-fidelity music and the broad range of tech utilized to reproduce it.
Humbled, I am.
Thank you for your work and insights.
:)
U2 lol I'll keep my eyes open for anybody giving dodgy shirts away 😂
Same scam on The British Audiophile's website. EXACTLY!
You are so upbeat and cheerful. I really appreciate your good nature. Thank you for that.
Only time I won something in my life and it was fake 😕
I love Arc! So funny and cool to see it used in a review. The story is that when Sonic Youth toured with Neil Young, Thurston Moore of SY joked to Neil that he should release a live album that was a collection of just feedback from the shows. But Neil didn't think of it as a joke, he thought it was a great idea and did it! And "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", wow yes! That's a favorite that I've only seen referenced by one other reviewer (Art Dudley, RIP)
Impressed at how you can paint the aural image in my mind if these speakers. And it’s so helpful that you tell us your view of the sound and music you think they suit. Thank you.
Thank you!
I’ve been getting the Underwood HiFi site in emails for some time now. They have everything! So many great brands. I’d love to see you review one of their LSA amplifiers, Steve. Also, I’d also love to see you review some of the Jolida / Black Ice products. They seem very well made and priced very reasonably. Great speaker review as usual. Thanks! 🙂🎶👍
It would be great to see a review of the LSA GAN 350 amplifier.
Listen to Steve when he said you don’t need a Subwoofer with these speakers 👍I’m running Amazon HD from my iPad Pro to the chord mojo to my UNICO Primo out to these LSA 50’s and just played 4 bass tracks & when I played Electrified by Boris Blank (Carl Craig Headphone Hookup) it feels like having 2 15” Subs! The room pressurized my ears like I’ve never heard out of any speaker this size! Wowzer! If you want BIG BASS grab a pair of these LSA 50’s! And Walter recommended 100 hrs. break-in before BASS attack😂😂 By that time your socks will curl up😂 This is BASS folks.. This will wake the neighbors & quake the walls.. Thanks Steve.. I should have ordered these long ago.. Try some Yello but open the windows 1st.😂😂
The looks of those speakers remind me of my pair of Edifier S3000 Pro powered bookshelf speakers (also 6 1/2-inch woofers, and also 38Hz), which also weigh 23lbs each. A bazillion high-five reviews of these audiophile speakers, PLUS, one of the best parts for me considering my listening area, the wireless connection between the two speakers-I had to buy them. So stinkin’ glad I did!! They sound amazing, and I wish you could get your hands on a pair to review. Anyway, I stopped a couple minutes into your review to type this-now back to the review.
Oh, the Edifiers have a treble and bass adjustment knob on the back of the master speaker, in case your room conditions do not allow you to situate them perfectly. Just thought I would add this in. Okay, back to the review.
@@rap-soldier2185 - Honestly, I’m overly impressed with the bass response of the Edifiers-don’t think a sub is necessary, at least to my ears. I can stream via Bluetooth from my iPhone, use the line out from my CD changer, or use the XLR inputs from a Zen phono preamp (when I buy it) connected to a turntable (when I buy it). But I see no reason why you couldn’t use a DAC as a pre and adjust the volume that way. My iPhone lets me adjust the volume while I can also further adjust the volume from the supplied remote or knob on the back of the speaker. Or you could use the optical input on the back of the speaker and send the digital signal to the speakers. Lots of options with these Edifiers. Would I buy them again? Absolutely and without question. Hope this helps.
Your right, I had the 2000 pro and they were really good, I would imagine the 3000 maybe even better.
finally, I believe yours is the first youtube review on LSA speakers. Beautiful speaker. Hope u can review their other speakers too, thks
Price shocked me Build quality is 🔥
great job steve lots of bass heads out there , I have noticed most standmounts with strong bass like power to move the coil/cone 😆 Thanks Steve
Underwood knows good sound. I have the original LSA Signatures and they aren’t going anywhere.
Thanks for clearing up where I’ve seen those before.
Underwood has great service and I dealt with Wally ( owner) who was great.
Got a pair! Bass monsters!! Great speakers. Thanks for a spot on review!
Bass monster indeed. How bad are they?
I am constantly amazed at the products Wally at Underwood keeps offering. Quality and affordable pricing that punches way above its price point. I've been mulling over these speakers for a few days, but your review sealed the deal -- I'm ordering a pair.
Would enjoy seeing you review Underwood's LSA T-3 Turntable made for them by Margules Audio. Looks amazing.
Hi Allan, did you end up buying a pair? If so what do you think?
So how bad are they?
@@astheworldburns3590 -- Punch way above their price range.
Two speakers diverged in a room. Robert Frost would be proud of Steve.
Awesome as always 👏 😎 👌 Thank you
Every time I think I've decided on what speakers to buy I run into one of your reviews, and then start the quest all over again! Great review.
hahahaha...miserable feeling innit?!
Can't go wrong with these or their big brother, the LSA 80 ($1200/pair). Killer design. These things are a steal at $500.
Really Nice! Thanks 👍
This is the best hobby in the world, any price range and get awesome fun and joy and musical beauty. Those little speakers are gorgeous. I would by them but I want the Linton Warfedale 3 way 85th anniversary. I am probably going to get these next for my bedroom rig. Just Because....lol
My ultimate is to get one or more Harbeth models, ive always wanted middle sized models or bigger. Not that shoebox small one.
Thanks for recommending these speakers. Even after paying for shipping I think they are excellent value. I am still running them in. I have a fluance RT 85 up front and notwithstanding a lot of my records are 40 years old they sound great.
Hate them yet?
Beautiful to look at and if you say it rocks you then I certainly believe you. Have a great day Steve.
I can confirm that Underwood HI Fi (Walter is the owner) is a great place to buy equipment from. They are very knowledgeable and their LSA line of speakers has had very good reviews outside of this one by Steve. Their Towers are impressive as well. They sell direct so that's why pricing is so reasonable and they stand behind their products. ps, I am not affiliated but I have bought more than a few items from Walter and Underwood HI Fi. They are good people for sure. They are located in Hawaii, I believe.
i agree. walter (wally) is a one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people in audio i've gotten to know.
On maui island
@@TheKravmonster Yes I meant Walter. Thanks for that!
Seems like a lot of the sonic characteristics you describe can be attributed to the unusually high crossover point but also to a very capable woofer. I've come to respect small form speakers much more in recent years and this might really fill a niche in that market. Thanks for the presentation as always Steve.
Have a LSA Warp 1 amp headed my way. Excited to try it out. Now I'm curious about thier speakers.
Similar to my RCL the small loudspeaker from the early 80's. 40 years and when I think of changing them its because I haven't been using them. I stick them on and get involved with the music.
RIP Klipsh and Elac .
I'm listening to this through those same Sonus Faber speakers, only mine are labelled Signums. Bought them 22 years ago and they are still outstanding.
Signum was the first real "audiophile" speaker I listened to... 22 years ago. Mated to Classe CAM200 monoblocks, it was an experience I will never forget! Absolutely intoxicating with female vocals. Gee, now I kinda want to find a pair for old times sake.
I bought LSA for my home theater back in 2014. Still sound great.
They also look like the Usher BE-718.
it look almost like a exactly like concerto sonus Faber. even the cones.. I own one since 90's still have them, I'm a hoarder. and the review is exactly like it. nice for 499
Howdy, word on the street is this uses the very nice Dayton RST28F tweeter. That is a very good budget DIY spec tweeter. $42 each from PE. So that is $84(retail, I am sure LSA gets a lower price) in tweeters. Anyway doesn't mean the speaker is good buy itself but those tweeters are comparable with many much more expensive DIY/OEM tweeters.
The side panels remind me of the Edifier S1000
Your description of how the LSA 50s sound is similar to how I found th+e Boston Acoustics M15s. Low volume was vieled, moderate was still ehhh, but driving them to the hilt with a 120 watt HK 3490 made them sound better than those costing alot more.
I’m really interested in these. Are these the cheapest 6.5 inch speakers you have reviewed on this channel? Seem like a really good value. Thanks Steve!
Would love to hear you review a few Swan speakers! Especially the swan m200mkiii and the bigger brother 3 way swan m300 mkii! Cheers again
That treated paper cones looks much alike as the Wilson Watt Puppy, the tweeter is first soft dome with lens over it I have seen maybe to boost a little 10 khz to 20 khz region
I received a pair today. First impression is very positive. Image well, bass and mid bass is quite good. Musical, yet a bit reticent. I'm looking forward to them during and after break-in. Wally says it'll take 200 hours. System: Mac Mini TIDAL and Audirvana > DENAFRIPS Ares II > Freya + > recapped Nikko Alpha III (great amp!) - Audioquest MacKenzie interconnects and DIY ribbon speaker cables and DIY power cables. 1.2KVA industrial isolation transformer. Sota Sapphire/ET2/Grado/Mani doing vinyl
How bad are they?
Hi Steve... what speaker do you like for late night listening . 60 watt tube amp. Thanks for all your excellent work!
It looks like they bought some old Usher 718 cabinets and put some drivers in there :)
Excellent 👌
Amazing review!
@Ruben Ramero haha nono just enthousiastic
@Ruben Ramero I like people like you
Let us hear em Steve!
Like most, I’ve never heard of LSA and by the way it looks, I thought it was a high end speaker priced at $4,999. Thought $499 was a typo, ha.
made in...
they look like very cheaply made SF concertino home's lol
@@apj.-.-.-.-.-.-.-119 Early in the AM and I was not wearing my glasses lol
They initially reminded me of the Opera Mezza monitors.
Thanks for the review of these. Back at Axpona 2019 their big brother, I don’t remember the number, was one of my favorite bookshelves (that I could afford!). Punched way above its price in my opinion. Even in a crappy hotel room. Still looking to maybe pick up a pair someday.
The LSA-10 signatures. I have them and they are wonderful!
Thanks for the review, Steve. Very interesting. I owned a pair of Jungson Beauty Deity tower speakers that were manufactured probably 10 years ago in China and they looked almost identical in construction and materials to these LSA speakers, I’m guessing they may be the same company manufacturing these. They too were very impressive for the money especially in the bass quantity department, similar to this review.
I have a pair of LSA2’s floorstanders, amazing performance for the money
Great review 👍
These also look a lot like Usher speakers. I wonder if any components are shared.
Sounds like a decent pair speakers 👍
I bought the LSA 20 towers that are now selling for $1700 a pair. I just got the Buchardt Mk 2s. The Buchardts are clearer but don't do justice to Bass guitar. The LSA 20 Signature towers have much better bass but the upper mids lack detail. I found switching to a ESS dac delivers some of this detail to the LSA. Considering the price and bass, I would buy the LSA 20 Signature towers over the Buchardt. They need 150 watts per channel. The sound signature would be described as Harbeth theater towers. LSA is about to release speakers with ribbon tweeters in the higher end.
would love to see a 3 way floor stander from these guys
When you were speaking about the electa amator you actually showed us a picture of the Signum . I know for shure because I owe one . ;-)
I meant the Amator,
.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Just noticed the small mistake ; of course I know what you ment . I like your blog btw 🙂
These Speakers are Identical Twins of some Usher Speakers I use to own.
I agree about PF. But they were always great, and better. My friends from Buffalo were into early PF and that's how I got into it.
Without volume, (space and loudness), I have never heard decent bass. 👍👍👍
Damm. So many underrated speakers. Old cantons. And lest we forget. Jamo
I ordered a pair after waking Walter up at 2:30am Hawaii time this morning 😂😂 I’ll do a few music demo videos hooked to the UNICO Primo & a few other Amplifiers as soon as they get delivered… They come out of Georgia USA👍
How are they?
@@audioamateur Great sounding with superior Powerful BASS✅ Clear as a bell and very wide soundstage with nice detail,, but they still need more of hrs. of “break in”.. Walt recommended 100 plus hrs. at least for the best audio bliss ..I will be uploading a few music videos again soon on my channel as soon as I build another set of Stands for them as I’m using my other 2 pairs of stands for other speakers at this time.. Keep an eye out and stop by my channel here and there.. Should be upped by a month to a month and a half or so.. Enjoy The Music❤️ Best2You Stephen…
@@meutubedou ok thanks!
There are so many good speakers out there at a reasonable price it's enough to spin my head off! With this speaker at its price, I think I my spun my head into the other room!🤪🤭😬
They look like a clone of Usher’s BE-718.
These *look* a lot like my Sonus Faber Concertinos (which cost a lot more back in the day / 90's). I'm kind of a Sonus Faber fanboy, have a pair of Minima Amators, a pair of Electa Amators and a pair of Cremonas. But the only ones currently hooked up to a running system in my home are the Concertinos (i'm running ATC SCM-11's in the main system in the living room). Will never sell the Concertinos though - very special tweeter in those beauties!
One benefit of 3.8khz crossover is that tweeter may not distort at higher volumes, esp when its 1.1inch vs typical 1 inch. Most 2 way monitors are crossed at 1.8-2.7khz. ... What is the material of the woofer?
Your shirt is very nice. The craftsmanship is excellent!
Looks like my old usher x719
Keep wanting to try Wally's headphones, or the clone "Kennertons"...but do I really need 4 sets headphones....
steve the 100 's are out,,you should call underwood and get a pair,,,,i'm hearing super things
How does the tweeter perform? Upper mids through the high? Do instruments sound natural or is there brightness, or is it somewhat veiled?
Not super clear, but not veiled. Inoffensive.
Thank you!
& If you had to choose what do you think is better; LSA 50 or Klipsch RP-600m II ?
LSA 50 by a long shot👍
Where can we buy these LSA 50?
The things Steve says about Pink Floyd.. I couldn't agree more with him.
Me too love the old stuff Dark side is okay but lost interest after that they became too mainstream for my taste. Sid brought out a child like excitment to the sound and his lyrics were interesting and melodic.
Hi Steve. Huge fan of you.
Looking for budget towers that really rock. Bass specially. What do you recommend? Despite living in Brazil, I can manage to import them. Appreciate. Alex
Thanks, hold on for my upcoming review of the Klipsch 6000F II towers in a month or so.
Too funny, I was going to recommend the rp6000f, But looks like a version 2 is coming down the pike..
Polk R600 or R700. Bass Monsters and very refined throughout.
@@lapocasini1246 Thank you.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Thanks
Signature, always a good sell.
For some reason I thought these speakers were made in Mar a Lago Florida. Maybe it's the writing on the box.
these guys also sell a few decent sets of HPs. LSA has some re-badged Kennerton headphones the HP-1 and HP2 that are a pretty solid price and performance. The re-badging is a bit strange to me and comes from russia so there is that. Have no clue about these speakers if they are their design or some rebadge of a china hifi product offering.
Their Design!
Ahh Steve a frequency response graph from the listening posición. Geez my 79 lascalas are Flat as hell. Ya they are well placed. Take up the room.
Hey Steve😊 I just got a notice.from "you" about winning a giveaway. Is it a tube of black silicon goop ? 🤔 Seriously, Nils in Florida
This looks exactly like 10 years old Usher speakers, even the membranes are the same..?
Steve you should see if HSU Research, yes the sub woofer people would send you there HB-1 MK2 Horn Bookshelf Speaker - It really hits beyond it's price point I think your listeners would be interested. For 199.00ea I think they hit way beyond there price point. No I do not work for them, but I had a pair in my bookshelf days.
Pretty sure I reviewed it years ago for CNET
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Gotcha Thanks...
those speakers look like speakers that were made by Usher
The first sonus faber hè showed were a pair of signum for sure
I wonder how would these compete with original Ushers x718/719 ? I have Ushers x719 and love them but Im thinking about lsa 80 for an upgrade ....
ARC asks a lot of listeners, you need to know what is happening to make the sound and have an attention span of some significance. Can you relax into the ocean of sound? I'll add Grayfolded , Drums and Space mashups for the curious.
Thank you Steve for the recommendation of Amber Rubarth (17 Ward Sessions). Incredible. Music is Food for the Soul. 🎵🤟
There's an even beefier bigger model of those with a passive radiator on the back, I'm hearing alot of good things about those.
That's the LSA 10 Signature or Statement. They are now discontinued.
@@robomaster4882 if their discontinued that fast I wouldn't imagine they were very good in comparison to other brands, that's just the impression I get, and if anything goes wrong with the drivers or passive, probably wouldn't be able to get a replacement.
@@JukeboxAlley I've never heard them but the LSA 10 statement was well reviewed by the Absolute Sound and others. Not that reviews are the deciding factor in purchasing. Your point of being discontinued after a short time is valid.
Although they are 8ohms , they also are 86db tho , so you’ll need a beefy amp to drive them
Actually not at all. I bought a pair for my Dad’s 80th B-day, and threw in a very old 25 wpc Jolida stereo tube hybrid amp to drive them.
Setup in my Dad’s very large bedroom (which is bigger than my living room) the speakers were playing *very* loud and clear with the Jolida, and it had plenty of room left on the volume dial. I think these were some of the easiest speakers to drive I’ve encountered despite the relatively low sensitivity rating, and can confirm the low bass they put out is jaw dropping. Needless to say my Dad was pleased, and I was impressed.
Don't let GR-Research see that crossover, may be better than average in the price range, but I'm gonna bet it still gets a cheese rating ;)
Yup, Danny did a video... change the woofers and improvements to the crossover design amongst other things.... $518 for new parts,,,
the website says $599. so which price is accurate?
Will I be able to get replacement drivers 10 years on? Or 5. Or 20?
You’ll need to ask to vendor on the warranty; but honestly, which manufactures have replacement drivers for 20 years? Speakers are changing so quickly compared to the old days I hardly doubt any would especially at these lower price points.
they look like sonus faber electa amator or chario
They look just like the Usher tiny dancers
Jay should do a comparison :) 😀
Very similar in looks to a Chinese Co's spkr named "BADA".
I post a link yesterday, to point out that the SQ670 (which was the reference on the parcel, you can search that reference on AE) has the exact same cabinet as those LSA (my post has been erased). They probably took an existing (and very nice) cabinet to implement these LSA Signature 50. I'm still asking myself if the pre-production received by Steve is not a better speaker than the one which will be actually shipped. We've seen that happens many many times in a recent past, a company sending better versions to the testers. So I won't buy until someone test a production model.
A crossover that high is often a bad sign. It's impossible for a woofer to not lose dispersion and have poor directivity and serious beaming at the top of the woofer's range, which is a problem with all B&W two way speakers, because they always insist on using a 4khz crossover. However, in their case, they also suffer from a big suckout in the mids between 2 and 4 khz, because their woofers can't even play that high without falloff, and from poor engineering and bad crossover design, which is even more highlighted and exacerbated by their tweeters being voiced way too hot. Hopefully these don't suffer from those same problems.
How would these compete against kef ls50 meta ? ...
I'm sure they're all that Steve reports. That said, his comment that these do not do well played at low volumes is for me a red flag. IMHO, it indicates that the high current/power required to get them to 'get up and go' prevents good performance at low volume levels. If courteous, late night listening will thus be limited to bachelors living in homes. Late night listening sessions is of course when electrical interference and listening conditions are most optimal.
Dear Mr. Audiophiliac, wanna try another speaker to rock your world? Try the 150kg DALI Kore. I guess it will rock the entire apartment building 😁😉
Looks like a sonus faber
These sound very interesting. Wish I had more room to play with, 10-12” from the rear is about the best I can do. So unfortunately ,a non-starter for me.
hang them from the ceiling
Concertino/ concerto copy anyone? Still lokong for used pair with stands over the new Sonus Fabers anyday. Or the Concerto Domus…
Can a speaker like that be too far from a wall? Will that degrade the sound?
Yes. Yes.
38Hz? That's wild. So tempted.
-6dB
To my ears, the 38hz number is quite conservative. I would say in-room, 35 or even a couple more db below is closer to what I heard.
Not going to knock this speaker... but if it lost detail and sparkle to klipsch rp600m... not for me. My favs in $600 pr range... kef q150, elac unifi 2.0, tekton mini lore monitors. Or save up and get better.
Reminds me of cheaper powered speakers from Edifier and (more expensive models) from Swan. I'm also skeptical of manufacturers claiming '8-ohm' ratings without seeing any measurements as it's common for the drivers to dip to 4-ohm during dynamic passages. Other than that, it's great to see another affordable pair of speakers.
Most 8 ohm speakers dip below 4 ohms. The impedance varies with frequency and there is a saddle in the lower frequencies with most speakers so I don't understand your concern.
These only dip to 6.5ohm measures on their website
Dead ringer for the Usher BE-718
