SERIOUS QUESTION What do booking agents not understand about extreme vocals? Why cant they understand that singers can't do more than 3-4 shows a week. If you book your singer for 10 days of shows, straight without day's off to rest their voice. They're going to sound like complete ass by the 5th day and beyond. Mitch has a very grading style of vocals and when you make him abuse his throat for an entire week. He will sound like a duck for the rest of the tour. Hence, what you see here and the infamous performance of YOLO in Santiago, Chile in 2011. I will give Mitch a lot of slack, because you can tell he was still trying his hardest. But man, I would have rather had you guys come back when your refreshed. I honestly felt bad for the people who paid to see them in Chile. There's nothing worse than seeing someone with a blown-out voice still trying to scream.
That's the tough truth about touring-- as a singer whose done back-to-back live shows, vocal fatigue is inescapable even with crystal clean vocals and technique. When you're singing, you're exercising. Just doing one show of singing for three - four hours is extremely taxing on the diaphragm and throat. The nature of tours is that there's deadlines to meet and money to be made. Artists signed to independent record labels might have booking agents who can negotiate for better conditions on their behalf, but bare in mind that the tour manager is walking a tightrope between how far they can push the artist healthfully and how much money they can make. They're concerned with the artists health not out of charity, it's to prevent show cancellations / loss of revenue. A bad performance is still a performance and the audience that shucked up money to see it aren't getting refunds. It's even worse when you're signed to a major record label. When the people who are supposed to speak on your behalf answer to business executives rather than you, there's nothing you can do to push back and stand up for your well-being. Serious money means serious demands. It's a corrupt, hostile industry that holds the masquerade of all your dreams until you realize that the path towards the most financial success in music is driving your autonomy as an artist and person off of a cliff.
