      I haven't nail down a routine yet as I'm still trying different products for 2nd year 😊. For first year I used aged cow manure, super compost, and fish fertilizer. This year I'm using Jobe's rose fertilizer spikes and Miracle Grow rose water soluble fertilizer.

      When I planted my roses I put aged cow manure at bottom, some mycorrhizal on the roots. I fed the roses with fish fertilizer every 3 weeks spring to end of Oct. We have all sort of animals here so I have to stop using fish fertilizer. I'm switching to slow release and Miracle Gro water soluble fertilizer. I hope that helps.

      I used a number of thing first year. I missed in the soil with amend soil, super compost, and aged cow manure. I watered them with fish fertilizer every few weeks. I stopped using fish fertilizer as it tends to attract animal. I'm using Jobe's rose spices along with miracle grow water soluble fertilizer. The roses don't seem to bloom as much this year so I'm going to try Magic Mills fertilizer. Basically i'm trying out new things until i find something that works for me 😊

    Great video TY . Trying to decide which ones to buy :) Would you day Mustead Wood is burgundy ..not so much red ? Do you grow them all in containers? what size? run drip to them or hand water in the summer? thanks heaps.

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  2 года назад

      Munstead's look vary in the light. Color more like dark red. I have her in a 22" container. The roots take up the pot in no time. So you might want to trim the roots and repot after 2 years or so.

    I am in Zone 9a, the temperature can get to 110-115F, you mentioned you prune your roses short in the fall to save their energy. How many times do you prune your roses? in the fall and the early spring? I planted 6 DA roses this spring, all are on the east side of the house. How do you care for your roses in the brutal summer?

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  Год назад +1

      I hard prune them short to about 1.5' around new year, early January. It gets really hot here mid to late summer so the flowers don't look really good so I trim them back a little bit, but not hard prune. I only had prune and strip all leaves early January.

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  Год назад +1

      In the summer I'd water little more, feed water soluble fertilizer from time to time, and don't expect much of the blooms because they don't look as nice compared to spring 😀. I'd cut blooms in for regularly because they would get fried in the sun anyways.

    Hello dear, could you show us how to get rid of aphids on Roses, or do you use any kinds of spray for roses? Thanks !

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  2 года назад

      Hi, i used Bonide Rose RX 3in1 concentrate mixed with water and spray on leaves. I used Bonide Rose RX Systemic Drench on some as well. I still can't get rid of the aphids so I hose them down when I hand water and I squish them with my fingers when I patrol around my garden 😊. Methods others used that I haven't try: soap mixed with water and spray, or release beneficial bugs such as lady bugs or lacewing bug.

    A beautiful collection of roses! What size pots do you have? Do you think the pot will be better than in ground to control the animals? Thanks!

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  Год назад

      I use 22" pots. They are ok for shrub. For climbers I would go bigger or best put them in the ground. I have serious voles problem in my garden. I make these wire baskets and bury my rose bareroots in them. All you need are gloves, wire cutter, wire mesh, and zip ties. You can get them at home depot. Another thing you can do is cut the base of the pot put wire mesh underneath to prevent those creatures getting into the pots. Happy gardening!

      Hi, all roses like sun but not the intense heat. My roses are not happy here even in the 90s. I prune most of them short and save energy for Fall. It would help a bit if they get some shade in the afternoon and water.

    Your roses are beautiful. I live in Orange County and I’m getting ready to plant my first order of DA roses. Should I plant in full sun or partial shade?

    • @sweetleilanigarden5288
      @sweetleilanigarden5288  2 года назад +8

      Thank you! 😊 You'll love DA roses. In general roses are sun lovers but not the scorching sun heat. It would be ideal if you place them where they get all morning sun and a bit shade in the afternoon to shield the blooms from the scorching heat. If you plant them in full sun like i do with almost all of my roses, deep watering on super hot days should help. You should look up the variety's info on DA website. They'll tell you which can tolerate shade better. Even in shaded area they need at least 4 hours of sun. I placed my Wollerton Old Hall on the side of the house that gets about 2 hours of sun and she hardly gives out blooms. Hope this helps. Enjoy gardening!
