Love the "dad joke" about the frog being the reason horses jump so high 😆🥰
*Had I been drinking my morning coffee, it surely would have squirted out through my nose!! Ha-hah-ha-haah-haaah-haaaa! 😆
I'm voice picky and teacher picky. You were spot on and gave me exactly what I was looking for. Straight to the point with enough information. Thank you! You got a new subscriber.
Thank you, Steffany! We appreciate you!
Same here !!!
She's a very good communicator.
Recently started horse riding and i already knew a lot about cleaning hooves but it was one of the areas where I was a bit unsure on how to do it, but this video has prepared me so well and I really appreciate it, thank you so much!! 💛💛💛
Me too! I was also very afraid to do it, I started riding 4 years ago and they taught me how but i was afraid to do so. I'm confident now, I have my own horse and i don't want anyone else doing it for me. So.. wish me luck! Lol
I used to be around horses alot, riding and I even owned a horse 10 years ago. But I had a traumatic event which made me recoil from everything horse related. And my brains hasnt even been able to think back on it at all, its completely shut out everything horse related so I have forgotten everything I knew about horses, which is sad cause I learned sooo much, I was obsessed and tried to soak in every little bit of knowledge about horses. But recently I got back into the interest of horse completely unexpectedly after a dream I had, and now I suddenly love them again. I found the passion I had when I was younger. And I want to thank you for making these well instructed videos. When I see you do it, it all suddenly comes flowing back into my mind as if it never left, its so natural. I hope I can overcome this fear and trauma and get back into horse life again. Im trying to learn it all again, its like Im starting all over again fresh. Its kind of nice. Thank you for these videos
Concur 100%...This really helped Me as well and feel like it's all starting to come back to Me. Everything from the break away tie up, to the nudging when stubborn, and body stance. Feel much more confident now after watching this like I was years ago. 😊
Thanks for the great refresher. It's been almost 20 years, so I thought a refresher, before I helped my best friends sister, was a good idea.
Be well, be strong and God bless.
🙏💪💜
I am renting a cottage on a woman’s ranch and she takes me for rides and I am learning to groom and she said now I can take one of her horses in the arena and practice whatever. The horse I ride is 21 and a little stubborn and very mellow. I’m learning all I can about horses and I really like your channel, it has helped alot.
I am looking to buy a horse and I really wanna know the basics! Your videos have helped me so much! The only sad part is that I’m stuck at 20 dollars right now.. we have a long way to go.. I’m a beginner and I am looking to take lessons according to my experience! You videos help, THANKS! (New sub)
Me, from new york city, watching this at 2:15 AM bc I suddenly wanted to know how horsies get their nails done: 👁👄👁
WC Productions - lmao same thing
If your still interested, watch this ruclips.net/video/g3QOb_kMSAA/видео.html its another way horses get their nails done hahah
Sameee lmao
😂😂😂😂😂😂 same
oml 😂
I am thinking about getting a horse your videos make it all so much easier for me my horse back riding lessons are starting soon so thank you
Nicely explained ! And yeah so many owners expect their Farriers to teach their horses to pick it's feet up ! Mainly as so many owners can't pick their own horses feet out ! This from a UK farrier with 35 yrs experience .
I love how detailed this video is. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I am a new horse owner and I have a two year old Filly. Three people have showed me how to pick out the feet but not how to really clean it like you didin this video.
Thanks again your videos are great keep up the good work.
Thank you this was so helpful!
Look at my horse, my horse is amazing
Tastes just like raisins
ajogoz with the stroke of its mane it turns into a plane

Thanks for the help! Gonna try your tips how to get the Horse to lift their hoof. Have a Great Day!
Thanks, you too!
This video is very helpful! I am going to get a horse very soon, keep the good work up! You got another subscriber that will always enjoy!
Remember also to be gentle if you are going to pick the frog, I like how she brushes after🐎🐴
Nice job
Great job. Very informative. Thank you.
Well done young lady , great stuff
I'll bet it feels good to the horse to have nice clean hooves. My cats and dogs have always seemed to feel good with freshly cut nails. Yay, happy feet!
Ok good thanks
What do you prefer English or western
Ok so my horse likes to lay on me. Or he likes to lay forward on the front leg I have lifted up. How do I keep him off me or laying forward?
Hi Sherry! You can try bumping him with your shoulder until he shifts his weight, or pressing on his belly with your other hand. Hope this helps!
Who knows how to do this but likes watching it anyway
Thanks!
I wanted to see how to pick up back legs :
does the horse get hurt when you just keep piking up the horse's hoof
My horse has laminitis last time i lifted her legs was probably 2 months ago bc she cant hold the weight on the others and when the farrier comes its a nightmare she pulls rears and fals back 😂
Hi Amie! So sorry your horse had laminitis! I find that a lot of horses have discomfort with the farrier simply by how hight the farrier lifts the horse's leg up. It tends to throw some of the horse's off balance 😂 Maybe see if he could hold her leg lower to the ground? This may not be as painful 🤷♀️
Interesting video. Pretty lady.
idk why but, im scared that the horse is getting hurt while she cleanes the hooves
naw, if anything it probably feels pretty good for them. it's the same as if you had rocks and gunk stuck on the bottom of your shoe and had them picked out. hoof picks don't really have the sharpness to go deep enough to hurt the horse either.
I'm a farrier.. what she did was fine . It won't hurt . All I would say is that some horses have more boxy feet than hers . So the side clefts and central cleft of the frog could be a lot deeper and hold dirt and stones more easy . So you need to get the hoof pick deeper and pick the central cleft of the frog sometimes.
People: why do you need to pick their hooves?
Me: would you wanna walk with a rock in ur shoe all day?
Good explanation
Yessir im a beginner and im scared to touch the frog because i dont wanna hurt my horse
@@lilyhearts Then don’t, hire someone trained to clean hooves.
@@DeathnoteBB Or learn to do it yourself, maybe do first time with someone who has done it before.
If you never try you never learn and sometimes is much more useful to be able to do these kind of minor things by yourself. Cleaning a horse hoof is not rocket sandwich making.
@@tubetorpedo You’re blatantly ignorant of how difficult and dangerous (for the horse and the person) cleaning hooves is…
Me, who has known how to this this for 7 years: “yes... interesting “
Which is better mustang or quarter ?
Im so terrified to like dig in the wrong place 👁👄👁
@@rianyamalhotra9167 I like mustang better but quarter horse is probably act better

I don't even have a horse but found this very informative and thorough. I love that you started with the absolute basics without assuming the viewer had any previous knowledge. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through this video!
If the apocalypse comes, we may all be finding ourselves suddenly looking for alternate forms of transportation, so good to be prepared. :D
You did a great job from beginning to end, explaining WHY, also giving examples of what NOT to do when cleaning hooves. I've been training for over 40 years. Thumbs up!!
Your horse is BEAUTIFUL!! One of the prettiest I've ever seen. Thanks for the video!
Thank you!

Congratulations on your new horse, Tracy! And thank you for subscribing! 😊

you look like ygritte from Game Of Thrones
Yessss, I knew she looked like someone and I've been trying to figure it out all day!! Thank you!!!
Omg
Every time I try to clean my horses hooves, she either tries to bite me or slams her hooves back down. We’ve only had her for 3 weeks though and got her from a rescue, so I have no clue about what she has gone through other than she was starved and really skinny. She is in great health now and in a good home
update plss
@@Juliets-Crochet she’s doing great, but unfortunately will still not let me clean her hooves

That frog joke xD
It’s not a joke it’s for a real
@Sims Girls Yea Sims... She says in the video that it's the part that makes the horses jump higher(the frog). Went right over your head lol.
@@angelaequestrian7465 well if you rewind it it says that's how it walks comfortably and It gives it support .
But the joke was, that's how it jumps higher and then she said just kidding
So yes it is called a frog but she did. Make a joke
Sheesh my lower back would be killing me !
Omg same, whenever i pick out hooves i have to put the horses hoof down inbetween cleaning them lol
Yeah. I don't think I'd be able to. If I'm ever able to have a horse I'll probably have to have him stabled and groomed. So, I probably won't be able to have one.
Did anyone else see the horse yawn it was so cute
Me already knows how to do this:
Poor checker getting his hooves picked up a ton of times 😂
I'm excited to announce that my Horse Care: Keys To Success course is now available! 🎉 If you or someone you know might be interested, you can learn all about it here: shop.equinehelper.com/courses/horse-care
I feel ashamed to watch this because I’ve been riding for 4 years and no one actually taught me how and I’m to deep in the hole to ask
Haven't been riding as long as you, but I'm in the same situation where I've been around horses too long to ask😭
Me who has been picking hooves for 10 years: "Hm...quite interesting."

This is a great tutorial, thank you!
Thanks for watching, Debbie! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
After 50 yrs of not working with ponies I have to house sit a miniature pony. Thanks for your expert tuition. I had forgotten how to pick a hoof. And she knew it and resisted. Very helpful thank you.
I am in the same boat. I hadn't done this in years until yesterday ( for an interview for a part time job on a ranch)...It's funny how we can picture it in our minds, but once You get in there first hand it feels like starting all over again.(and I grew up around horses).. This actually made Me more comfortable and confident again and won't overthink it so much on My first day Friday. Glad I came across this particular video.
This girl knows her stuff.

I am a new horse owner...and all 4 are minis. I have learned more from just a couple of your videos than all the other videos from other folks combined! Thank you so much...and my horses thank you, too!
Glad I could help, Alan!
I was always so scared to clean their hooves because I was scared they might kick me in the face when I was little 😅
I just got my first horse in 15 years (I was in the military for a decade) and you’re helping me refresh my knowledge. Thank you!
Love the tip about putting g pressure on the horses shoulder to get them to shift their weight! Thanks!
Young lady you did a great job explaining the cleaning. Thank you
Ygritte?
Thanks for your info. And being clear and thorough on procedures...I just started a dream job as a horse/ animal caretaker on a riding farm. I have years of experience as a vet tech with small animals but these beautiful magical beasts are a different world...and I want to become the best champion I can for them. So thank you for taking the time to help educate. Much appreciated.
First time seeing your videos. Love them
Thanks, Amanda! I'm glad you enjoy them. 😊I'm sharing at least one new video each week if you'd like to subscribe!
Im farrier from kashmir ☘️
So just curious… what do you do if your horse loves to lean on you. Mine absolutely loves to want to lean and will put a good portion of weight on who ever is doing hooves.
Does your horse lean after the hoof has been picked up for a bit? Or is it as soon as the hoof is picked up?
City girl with no horse. Just another topic for me to add to my personal list of useless information
Just found you on You Tube this was one of the most helpful videos I have seen on cleaning out hooves and hoof care. I shall watch all your videos from now on. Greetings from the UK
That asome
thank you getting a horse,
you are doing it on the wrong leg you always start on their left shoulder as the way you enter the ring and get on
i assume the clean hoof she shows as an example is from the left side, meaning she's already done the left and is using the right for teaching in the video 0:
I love your channel, been working with horses for a few years now and my boss is finally letting me do the more technical and advanced stuff with them so this channel is amazing thank you!
I started riding 4 years ago, and I was ALWAYS afraid to clean their hooves. It was scary to me. I got my own horse, and during summer I think i'll be ready to be brave and do her hooves. Thank you for the video and information!
I have a 19 year old horse that was never trained for hoof picking. I keep trying videos and he just doesn’t seem to understand why I’m holding onto his leg like that. The only time I ever got it to come up is when my dad YANKED his hoof up, using all his might to force it up. I don’t wanna force it up, nor do I have my dad’s strength. I wanna be able to rub my hand down his leg and get it up. He’s known me for 7 years, and he loves me very deeply. I always do ground work with him and rub on him all the time, and he would just put his head on me and nap. We have a huge bond, so I believe he’s just confused what I’m doing. He gives me a look and just stares at me. Do you have any advice on how I can get his hoof up? My brain first thinks maybe to give him treats every time he even slightly raises his hoof for me? I don’t know really.
This is IMPOSSIBLE to explain to little kids, haha, they always stand too far away!
I should just have them watch this, very detailed and correct!
So many kids go right for the frog, too!
(Sorry, I help with beginner kid lessons a lot, it gets stuck in my brain...)
Also, we have too many draft crosses at my barn, haha- big heavy feet and lots of stubbornness and strength to slam them back down...
Which is better mustang or quarter ?
They are both wonderful horses
it helped ( :
Can you also get a Professional to do it??
Yes
Thank you for this Carmela! I am finally realizing dream of getting a horse and finding your website and videos have been a hugs support. My mare and I thank you!
When you were still holding up the hoof for the hoof picking thing, I suddenly saw your horse yawn, I was like ( The horse is probably saying -Can you just pick my hooves? Please? ) so I just noticed that, and I don’t know if it’s another meaning, or it’s bored and tired
Now I learn
Horse tired.
Yes good video BUT my horse is NOT letting me do his front left hoof he swings it back and forth and has knocked me down twice because I loose my balance as I am trying to hold onto his leg to try to beat him at this game :( can't compete w a large horse I am 5 ft 2 inch 110 pds) I have used all the tricks ive watched on videos and he has been doing this the last 3 wks or so. He looks at me as if he absolutely knows what he is doing but will not give in. Is this just a matter of the wills? Will he eventually give in if I keep trying to lift it? Thx Helen (i have had my 21 year old gelding palomino for 4 mths now).
I just started learning how to ride and picking up the hooves and cleaning them is always so hard and exhausting. You make it look so easy!
I just got my first horse and was picking his hoove then I smelled something bad is that good?
4:47 ahahahahaha and this why the 57.9k of us will never leave you guys 🤣🤣🤣😎
A beautiful woman in Carhartt! ❤️ ❤️ amazing horses! Such a beautiful animal!
Thank you for this great video.
I have a horse and when cleaning their hooves it is difficult to fully clean the grooves and a black smelly stuff comes from the back side of the groove with white particles at times. What is this and how I deal with this problem thank you
I have found that adding a word (I say yes but I don't think it matters what word you use) when you put the hoof down helps the horse. Especially with the horse pulling their hoof away. It gives the horse a clear signal so it doesn't get confused.
Me who has been riding for quite a while and already knows this by heart: Interesting...
Hi, my name is Leighton and I like this video because I need to know how to because I’m getting a horse
I wonder, if a horse walks in a lot of 💩, will it smell? Serious question, the smell of 💩 makes me gag so-
i have a question my horse when i do the front hooves she always rips her hoof outand the like stumbles what do i do about that?
I don’t get things very easy but I got this within a couple times wastching it
Thank you I have a horse at the mare and foal sanctuary I need to pick hooves I have just brought her new sub and horsey friend
When you started to say "bacteria and fungus" you can see your horse's ears go back. 🤣
I have a horse that is sensitiv and she is not so happy with the hoves either so she trues to Bite a little but barely so it’s a little hard and also she has Big hoves so it’s a little hard to pic the, UP to but she take her foot UP when she see me TAKING her hoof
Another thing i didn't get teached correctly ... Thanks for showing us the right way! Love the teaching ... you always explain why you do things and that works great for me. Keep it up!
I don't ever have a horse but I'm going to get one one day how offend am i suppose to do this
Edit watched the vid lol
Cute horse! What a good boy letting you clean his hooves:)
How to do back legs please, those are the difficult ones!!
