Blessed Assurance, written by tune composer, Phoebe Knapp, makes its first appearance in print in 1873. The text comes from lifelong Methodist, Fanny Crosby. The melody and the words of this great hymn are just as relevant today as they were in the 1800’s.
This new arrangement by Susan Staples Bell is thoughtful and serene. Set in the original key of D Major but adds some updated harmonies; and the time signature gets a twist- going from 9/8 to 12/8, creating a more relaxed, contemporary feel.
