Until there is 3rd party controller that can do Eucon, I'll keep it within Avid's ecosystem. Pro Tools integration with Eucon is another level and HUI has so many limitations. On the other hand Console 1 plugin is a workflow that is not for everyone, including me. But this is really cool. What we need to do is try and push avid to open Eucon protocol to the market!
Definitely the most complete review, especially for ProTools users. This could be the best replacement for the good old Artist Mix and it costs less than a used S1.
What the majority of these paid reviews won’t tell you: 1. The console won’t follow track selection outside of the selected bank. For example, if the bank is set to tracks 1-8 and you select any track beyond that, the console Will NOT follow. 2. While Pro Tools and many other DAWs has 10 sends, this console can only control the first 6. 3. It supports a maximum of 99 tracks.
What people like youdon't understand: this was not a paid review. Two, what you're describing is a limitation of HUI protocol, not the controller. Piece of advice stop assuming, you're not good at it. Carry on.
@@mixbustv 5:20 You said, “Does it follow track selection? Absolutely yes.” Well, sorry, I didn’t realize you paid to get the prototype console. Don’t get me wrong, I like your channel and appreciate what you’re doing for the community, but some important information should be clearer. Many consumers, including myself, would buy it expecting that feature, only to be surprised when it doesn’t follow the tracks throughout the entire session. Does it have assigning buttons and play/stop/record functionality?
Let me write it again: YES IT DOES and if you weren't blind you could have seen it. And if you knew anything, you'd also know the HUI limitations which have nothing to do with the controller itself, hence, you writing "what they don't tell you" it's completely useless because HUI has been around forever and everyone knows. And guess what? Yes I have access to things before gen pop, cry about it.
Oh, wow, you’re really out here doing the Lord’s work, enlightening us poor fools who clearly can’t keep up with your brilliance. The way you casually throw around your early access, as if anyone’s actually impressed, is truly inspiring. And thank you for explaining HUI limitations, because obviously, without your guidance, we’d all be stumbling in the dark. Must be tough being this extraordinary. Hope your back’s okay from carrying all that ego around. By the way, are you wearing those Eve Audio speakers like a fashion statement headphones, or is your room so tiny they just seem that close? Or maybe you’re mixing so advanced you’ve outsourced it to the neighbors? Just dying to understand your genius. 😅
I was so stoked about it until I realized it doesn't have pan encoders for each track. I gotta pan quickly and would like to pan two pairs of tracks left and right super fast. with this controller you'd have to select each track and do a pan one at a time. DAMN Softube... so close! I'm going to stick with my SSL UF8 for now.
I don’t believe this was covered in the video, but I just got my unit today (I signed up on Softube’s site for the early notification and sale). I can confirm that there is a “Pan” button on the left side of the unit that converts the faders into pan controllers for each displayed track. If there are specific tracks you want to pan, favorite them with the “Favorites” button, then press “Shift” and “Favorites” at the same time. Then press “Pan”… and Voila.
Pretty neat. Looks like a good controller, an actual alternative to the Avid stuff. I'll certainly be checking out the documentation of the unit. My current controller Faderport 16 was quite easy to support in CSI for Reaper. This ought to be interesting. Thanks for the overview.
Ok so transport would have been good, or can we at least programme some into the mk3, simple stop / play / record. That said it’s super dope although losing track data twice so far, any idea how to create a master, do I just create a send and use that? I moned there was no off button, I stand corrected ( ok so it sleeps itself ) I am liking this a lot.
Thank you for your insightful review. You said this is the best out there. The question I have is, how can it be the best with no transport controls , jog wheel and only one pan control unless you use the faders themselves. The SSL UF8 has transport controls, small jog wheel and separate pan controls on each channel. I will admit this Mark III integrates much better with Softube's plug in controller however.
I don't care for the transport control. It's never faster than hitting the spacebar. And I've never used the job wheel in my entire career I think. I would take the play stop if they where there but I rather see full names and have better integration than extra knobs and a taller profile
This is so freaking gamechanging! Maybe they come with package deal of console one and the fader who knows. I dont own any of them but that might change. Seems like they was inspired by wes audio which is dope!

They have deep integration with Reaper already and have for years now. I think they support FL Studio, too, but I don't use that DAW, so I can't speak to it.
EUCON can control a type of channel. Audio, MDI, VCA, etc. As long as it has a fader, it can control it. Can the Softube Fader? This s a severe limitation with any controller that relies on an audio plugin to be inserted. They won't work on MIDI, VCA, or any type of channels that doesn't pass audio. The SSL-360-Link system is a good example of this. Another important thing that you (and every other reviewer of fader control surfaces) constantly neglects to mention is: Does it follow the visibility settings of the channels in the DAW. This has been a feature of EUCON, for a long long time. It took Stenberg about 6 years of nagging (from me and others) to finally implement this important part of EUCON, but they finally did. I always hide channels in the Cubase MixConsole, that I don't need to see at the moment. Having all of these (could amount to hundreds) clogging up the controller, quickly becomes unmanageable! Perhaps you could check how the Softube handles this. Does it follow the visibility setting in the DAW? These two things: Controlling (and following) any channel type, and following the visibility setting in Cubase, are the reasons that I still rely on my aging Avid Artist Mix controller. I should replace it, but I simply haven't found anything to replace it with! I'm not prepared to sacrifice these vital abilities!
Most functions are available on SSL 360 a long time ago. Fader has to many shift + functions. I want knob by function...so ssl is the way to go or to stay.

I dont understand why we're using HUI in a $1k control surface in 2024 and not Eucon protocol over ethernet? The latter has far far better integration with PT and Cubendo. Is the Eucon license really that expensive? Same with SSL controllers...they need tinkering under the hood to make the older midi compatible protocols useable with 2024 software, and that tinkering has proved to be far from popular or indeed consistent with folks who've just parted with a considerable investment that's just shy of a fully integrated Avid controller with Eucon. Also, with no dedicated Cubendo compatibility mode...that's a bit of an oversight. Having said all that, Softube really does set a high bar, I just wonder about their design choices.
