What makes it even harsher is that The Slayer stabs Davoth BEFORE he says "no", meaning he didn't even say "no" before striking him down. He struck him down first, then said "no." He literally had NOTHING to say to him.
Agreed! The way Doom Slayer offed Davoth was like just another Tuesday. Most MCs during the final boss battle be like afraid of how strong they are and need time to prepare and get ready but not Doom Slayer no. He freed Davoth, tried to spawn-kill him which didn't work, then faced him in a 1v1 combat and killed him the first chance he got. No monologue, no nothing, just a major fuck you and everything you stand for. Davoth was not even a threat, he's just another Demon Imp or a Marauder in a cooler armor, nothing too special. Doom Slayer doesn't have any authority above him, but if he did and someone asked him to kill a seemingly impossible entity like a full-fledged god, he'd do it with efficiency no questions asked. Just results.
What’s truly ironic about this is the fact that not having anything to say usually results in silence. But the Slayer had *so* little to say, that he actually said “No” instead of just remaining silent. Brilliant.
As far as why Doomguy went quiet, I disagree. He went quiet for so long because man (and possibly demon) fear the unknown. Then when he finally speaks, it spreads even more shock.
I do like the idea of it being because of trauma, and finally speaking being a big middle finger. Fun fact, you can hear Doomguy grunt in game when he takes damage, it's just really quiet.
remember how the slayer was originally a marine for the us before he was sent to mars in 99 technically speaking he was also never relieved from his duty so there is also that
I’ll be honest, when I learned that Doomslayer hadn’t talked for potentially an entire century and no one knew why, I thought it was because he refused to speak until every demon, the beings who took everything from him, was either dead or trapped and sealed off from everyone so they could never hurt anyone ever again. For one this makes him more human, but also it makes sense for his hatred for demons.
Davoth was just another tally mark on his shotgun, nothing more, nothing less. only reason the slayer spared Davoth the breath that carried his reply, and spoke not a whisper to either the spider mastermind or the icon of sin is because Davoth was the only demon that would have even understood what he said
Wow, what a resolution! Doom guy literally nailed Davoth with a firm, direct and brief monologue! Really many plot twists this installment had, I loved it and thanks for these thorough content analysis! See you soon!
There might be even more to it. If a god is powered by the belief of others, if the Slayer admitted he was the creator, that might have been enough 'faith' to allow him to continue to exist. The Slayer's denial is the real killing blow. "As a god , you are only as powerful as those that follow you." - Aigis Assuming the quote's logic then if he could get the Slayer to admit he was his creator, he'd be able to draw on the Slayer's strength. By denying him that after the stab, death was certain.
I actually think Doomguy showed a LOT of restraint and (obviously deserved) cruelty here. Let me explain. Doomguy lost his entire life. Imagine losing any chance at a normal life due to the corrupt military you joined. You disobey their orders in a fury, and attacked your commanding officer, causing you to be demoted. And likely around the time you would contact your wife and son, that same military opens a portal to Hell itself due to some eggheads in a lab not having foresight. He watched all demons kill everyone except him: his friends, his annoying acquaintances; his brothers and sisters in arms, his potential friends and other ties; his love of his life and his precious son. He lost everything, and it was his fault, he may think, "if only I didn't attack my commander, everything would've been fine." In his rage of losing literally everything, he didn't care about himself anymore. He wanted to get revenge. Slaughtering several demons and those damn UAC cultists. And, in turn, you temporarily saved earth, only for it to be in vain and teleported to another world before you could fully end the threat. Your rage festers, you still need to stop and end them. And now, your guilt has led you to a gladiator arena. You, overtime, get trained by the people of honor here to tame your rage. You may have lost your other life, but maybe this one won't be as last time. Your words proved you wrong, though, as corruption seeped in the very fabric of this society. You choose not to speak anymore as you caused another collapse and livelihoods to vanish, all while corruption lingers. Who knows how many entire worlds has fallen to the demons' influence. And after you end so many threats to your homes, you finally find the source of this universe's torment, the one who did it all... You. You see yourself, and seek to destroy that monsterous visage. And as you finally do, redeemed by your people, this blight on your life and who know how many more wearing your own face has the nerve to try to be above you. You could've tortured him, you could've shamed him in many accounts, but you chose instead to impale this graven image; and watch the light fade from his eyes, and simply deny your foe their glory in one word: "No." You now realize what you did. You saw a fraction prior, but you literally saved *every single world and its futures that was effected by hell.* Including your own. You did it. You saved everything and everyone. The overwhelming feeling consumes you in relief, in self forgiveness.
I think it comes down to the duality the two share. They are literally two sides of the same coin. Nothing shows this more than Davoth having the same face. Davoth's hateful crusade is the same as the Doomslayer's. The difference between them is the Doomslayer is about one thing. Stopping the madness. The war, the demons, the corruption...it must end. You could say the Doomslayer was that part that knew it had to stop but Davoth was too proud to listen to. So it kept going until it became embodied. A piece of him, his completion...his end. He couldn't stop himself by his own will. So he made a mirror of himself to end it. And that mirror did. It became the totality...by destroying all that came before. This was a god at war with itself, hating itself. And seeking vengeance on those whom wronged it that god destroyed itself.
@@jacobfreeman5444 I think both are correct. Davoth had a shard of himself taken by the Maykrs, and that shard became, essentially, Doomguy. So seperate beings, colliding into one.

That the creation finally outgrew the Creator, thus the Creator could feel satisfaction of their final work. But Doomguy knew it right away and scraped him off his boot like mud. Doomguy wasn't a pawn in the Creator's schemes and he never allows himself to believe that because that little thought is the seed of doubt that would one day abandon his life long mission.

hopefully we got that rumored HlA2,spin off or Hl3 soon
What i dont get is why the ''Creator'' just threw his weapon instead of fighting until the last drop of blood
Is it just me, or would General Zod be the perfect actor for this role.
5:40 so you mean davoth is the father of doomslayer ??
Yes spiritually.
Davoth created father who is father for everything, so technically he is Doomslayer's Grandfather.
Bro I waited 8 minutes to hear him say 'no' Actual chad move though 😂
I feel like "No" is such a thesis for the game. It has the same vibes as Neo's iconic "No" at the end of the first Matrix. Just a resounding and unequivocal rejection of all of this bullshit. They all need to die. Not open for discussion or articulation.
Just...
No.
It's perfect 👌
I'm just surprised Davoth wasn't John Romero lol
"To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero."
NO
Doomguy wakes up in his house on earth from his computer playing doom.
Turns out hes just a normal guy like us realizing doom guy is just anyone who plays the game.
"Mind fucked "
yes the midmorning guy uploads!!
The Doomslayer didn't say just "no", he actually spoke the Sigma language, the way he used his deep manly vocal cords should been a dead giveaway, it was the "no" of disapproval.
4:37 but in the end it has to be this waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy
Rise and shine, Mr Free... wait. Sorry, force of habit
I hope they say the dlc was not cannon and the slayer will continue
5:12 ¿eso de fondo es un perro ladrando? No te dejan trabajar tranquilo, "Medianoche"
Bethesda and Id certainly got the idea of Davoth from Yaldabaoth in Gnostic Christianity.
Push up form pretty good
last Doom lore video.. or is it?
can you do gameplay on doom 2016 multiplayer
You should make a video on if davoth won.
3:43 the only thing I know for real there will be blood shed
But he said the quote "rip and tear"..
