From the album I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats: All Hail West Texas, out April 6, 2018 on Merge Records. smarturl.it/I-Only-Listen Podcast: www.nightvalepresents.com/ionl...
I love this song and the original is really good, but this cover just really speaks to me. The harmonies are spectacular, and the little sound effects in the background really add to it. This song is my absolute favorite and it always calms me down when I’m stressed.
I FINALLY FOUND IT, I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FOR LIKE HALF AN HOUR CAUSE I COULDN'T REMEMBER ANY EXACT LYRICS, I WOUND UP JUST GOING THROUGH A GOOD PORTION OF THE WTNV WEATHER PLAYLIST CAUSE THE ONLY THING I COULD REMEMBER WAS THAT I HEARD IT ON NIGHT VALE
This version made me appreciate to the Mountain Goats. All My friends would talk about how great the lyrics were but I couldn't get past what a weiner John Darnielle sounded like to me. I heard this on a youtube playlist and looked for what it was and saw it was the TMG and dug in from there. I am a late to the table TMG fan.
...do you even know the context of the song or the original writer because you missed the point by about a hundred and fifty miles. like the song is about a dude reminiscing about old relationships that fell away and all that's left is specific memories
ayamesgrl i think he was just trying to jab at country music in general, even though I've never heard a country song about biscuits and gravy or enjoying racism, and even though this isn't a country song.
"I fall out of the car/ like a hostage from a plane" makes me tear up every goddamn time.

“But, I used to think of that moment often... You know, I’m gonna think of it again now. And while I do, you should think about the weather.”
So, this is my all time favorite tMG song, and I was so worried that I wouldn't like this cover. But I love it! I love every aspect of it.
Tim Mitchell I was literally thinking the exact same thing word for word

great feel.. but what the fuck is that sample doing there..
I don’t want to be controversial or anything but this is one of the only good country songs
and America is America and trucks and white people, biscuits and gravy and being a racist is cool!

You're listening to the wrong country then. Check out David Allen Coe.
