      Think it's mostly those who hate the Special Editions and prefer Yub Nub over Victory Celebration. I personally love both versions.

    • @8elementallords
      @8elementallords 4 года назад +11

      @@AndrewChapman I like Yub Nub as a song (I don't think John Williams has ever composed a bad theme) and it's fun to listen to for sure...but if you ask me, Victory Celebration is a more fitting and suitable theme as final scene and send-off of the trilogy.
      ...I'm sure part of the reason I'm partial to Victory Celebration is because it's how I first saw Star Wars (my first experience with the series was the re-release of the Original Trilogy back in 1997), but I think the change from Yub Nub to Victory Celebration is one of the few changes made to the OT that actually was for the better (the rest, at least with '97 Special Edition anyway, aren't really good or bad, imo).

    • @AndrewChapman
      @AndrewChapman 4 года назад +2

      @@8elementallords Yes I have to admit, after seeing the Disney+/4K versions where they did a better job with the colour timing, think I appreciate the Special Editions even more now. Would've been awesome if Lucas had allowed the theatrical cuts to be released on modern formats too so we'd enjoy both versions. But I'd definitely say the colour timing in the 4K, which is similar to the '97 SE release, is also much closer to resembling the theatrical cuts than the Lowry restoration for the DVD and Blu-ray.

      Martin Lee Anakin was 22-23 at the end of Revenge of the Sith and died at around 45 in Return of Jedi. Sebastian Shaw was in his 70s when he filmed for Star Wars. I think it makes more sense for him to come back as what Anakin best felt represented him as the ‘good Jedi Anakin’ rather than in the form of an elderly man.

    In 1983, I was living in Honolulu. I went down to the Cinerama and ended up watching Return on the Jedi over 50 times, 50 at that theater then several more times at Schofield Barracks until it left. I had never watched a movie so many times before, I loved it that much. I also watched Star Wars and Empire many times as well, but not as many times as Jedi. To this day I remember the movie with great fondness. I was in different places when each film cane out, in Ventura, California, Phoenix, Arizona and in Honolulu. I'm proud to say I've seen all the films in the theater, except The Rise of Skywalker. I had waited for my best friend to come to town so we could see it together as she was as much of a fan as I was. She did indeed come to town, saw the film, yet not once did she call me but I waited to hear from her, she didn't contact me until after she went home. She did not like my husband and won't even visit me. All she had to do was come into the driveway never seeing my husband. Now I wish I'd arranged something with my other friend but the one who had come to town I had known much longer and we worked on a Star Wars newsletter together: Brotherhood of Jedi Knights the Phoenix branch together. I helped with art work and puzzles and so forth. I'll never get to see Rise of Skywalker in the theater. I've forgiven her, I can't stay angry with her, she is a good friend, but it hurts that it is the only film, good or bad, of the saga, that I didn't see in the theater because I waited for my friend. A very bad move.

    There is something of a bittersweet victory to this 'restored' full length score; for those you you who saw the film upon its original release in 1983, it was disheartening to find that unlike it's predecessors, there was to be no two album release of the soundtrack of 'Jedi' (at least not to my knowledge), only a single and slightly deceptive gate fold album with a single disc of vinyl which, alas, featured only some of the more thematically driven cues - some misnamed (for example, 'Sail Barge Assault' was listed as 'Return of the Jedi'...not that out of the ordinary: 'The Death Star' was listed, rather strangely, in the 1977 vinyl release of 'A New Hope' as 'Inner City', and 'The Battle of Yavin' as 'The Last Battle' [which isn't in itself odd except that the cut was 12 minutes + in length and contained segments of 'Dentention Block Ambush' and 'The Tractor Beam'), thus for me it was hard to really develop a deep intimacy with the score as I had with the prior two - so it was a delight to have the score in its entirety with the advent of the brushed up re-releases of the films in the 90s. The bittersweet part comes with the decision to replace some of the diegetic cues (namely 'Lapti Nek' and the Ewok song) on which I won't comment as I know opinions remain divided, though you can probably suppose which I prefer - perhaps out of sheer nostalgia - based on my use of 'bittersweet'.

    I know everyone hates the "Hayden" Anakin being in there instead of the older Anakin, but when you think about it, Anakin DID die young, his humanity and soul was killed when he became Darth Vader. Hence why in KENOBI, Vader says "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker...I DID." which meant that he essentially killed the good part/jedi of himself when he knelt down to Palpatine/Sidious.
