I was in a band in the 80s and we used to play this song. Our key board player sang it and was a huge Talking heads fan. He passed away last month. Going to have a little get together in March and will bring a guitar and play this one.
I am 40 now and I love watching Little Monsters with my 7 year old son...every time I hear this play at the end I get emotional for some reason. It's like my childhood and those memories all flood back. Beautiful.
He's one of the best! Amazing Version!!!!! Story of my life as of late......But It's Alright! NICE. This raw version sounds SO good. So much love in that room... Always loved this song.
Les, I was listening to Talking Heads in the late 70s/early 80s, was a huge fan, saw them live. That the rest of America *loved* Nugent, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, was all of a piece with the way they loved Ronald Reagan. People wanted something that gave them the safety of the familiar. The best marketing won back in those days. Byrne kept on exploring music, and he is a happy man today with a broad body of work. He's even written a great book about music. You are lucky to be able to enjoy it all now.
This is weird. When i was a teen in the late 70's and Early 80's i hated the Talking Heads. They were a bunch of crap punk shit. Now you have to relalize that where i grew up you listened to ROCK AND ROLL. Nugent, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Aerosmith. Then MTV came out and david byrne showed up doing these spaz jerky moves. I thought WTF is that! He is FUCKED in the HEAD. Fast forward 30+ yrs and i love his stuff. The stuff i hated i now cannot get enough of. Go figure i was the one fucked up.
We're on a road to nowhere Come on inside Taking that ride to nowhere We'll take that ride I'm feeling okay this morning And you know We're on the road to paradise Here we go, here we go We're on a ride to nowhere Come on inside Taking that ride to nowhere We'll take that ride Maybe you wonder where you are I don't care Here is where time is on our side Take you there, take you there There's a city in my mind Come along and take that ride And it's alright, baby, it's all right And it's very far away But it's growing day by day and it's all right Baby, it's all right Would you like to come along You can help me sing the song And it's all right, baby, it's all right Dont let them tell you what to do They’ll make a fool of you And it's all right, baby, it's all right There's a city in my mind Come along and take that ride And it's alright, baby, it's all right And it's very far away But it's growing day by day and it's all right Baby, it's all right, yeah Would you like to come along You can help me sing the song And it's all right, baby, it's all right Dont let them tell you what to do They’ll make a fool of you and it's all right Baby, it's all right We're on a road to nowhere We're on a road to nowhere We're on a road to nowhere We're on a road to nowhere
Lithead thanks for the comment. I wish i would have seen the Stop making Sense tour. That DVD is the best live performance bar none. Well maybe Pink Floyd's the Wall is the greatest. But it is a close second. I absolutley love that DVD and CD.
Now, if we could just get David and Tina Weymouth to stay in a room without killing each other, we could have a Talking Heads reunion. Come on, Chris, talk some sense into those two. :-)
it was true the first time i seen him it thought the dude is fucked up. He had to have been dropped a bunch of times on his head as a baby. Who the fuck does that jerky shit? Now i just love his stuff. What a genius. I was the one dropped on my head. That being said there still is nothing like Zeppelin, the Who, Stones, ZZ Top, Nugent, Cheap Trick, Rush ect ect.... Long live ROCK and the HEADS!
I think you misunderstand this song. I don't think it says that every kind of life is meaningless, I think it says that this particular kind of life we live in the modern world feels meaningless and empty and undoubtedly in some way we are all on a road to nowhere. Of course that's only one way of looking things but it is the inevitable consequence of modern people's world view. And the way our world advances it feels more and more true. As I see it, this song is partly an eye-opener and a satire of modern life but also a song to help you get over your fear of losing everything you possessed in this world and to help you step in a greater perspective.
NICE. This raw version sounds SO good. So much love in that room... Always loved this song.
what a strong voice .this man can sing ..great number

I think it's physically impossible not to move to this song. Even if it's just a little nod or shuffle.
I don't think I've ever seen so much pure joy in one room before. Unbelievably uplifting.
There's so much joy in nihilism
David Byrne is a genius. Nuff said.
I think it's safe to say, he's still got it!
Simply fantastic
Byrne never gets old to listen to
He's one of the best!

Great song. Very ZEN.
Great stuff. I love the original song, and that cool video, but this ranks right up there with it.

We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Taking that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride
I'm feeling okay this morning
And you know
We're on the road to paradise
Here we go, here we go
We're on a ride to nowhere
Come on inside
Taking that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there, take you there
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's alright, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day and it's all right
Baby, it's all right
Would you like to come along
You can help me sing the song
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
Dont let them tell you what to do
They’ll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's alright, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day and it's all right
Baby, it's all right, yeah
Would you like to come along
You can help me sing the song
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
Dont let them tell you what to do
They’ll make a fool of you and it's all right
Baby, it's all right
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere

Thanks for the offer but i am afraid my story would read like that movie dazed and confused with Matthew McConohey about the 70's partying.
give him credit, he admits he was the one that was fucked up....

Congradulations on your awakening. Welcome.

It's amazing that people celebrate that they are on a road to nowhere. They are celebrating nihlism.

I bet they hate it when you clap. All that rehearsing to sound good. And people start clapping. If you went to the opera you don’t start joining in.
This is horrible. A dead eyed loveless nihilist bleating his misery all over you, please don't slurp up this dirt; get funky.

I'm going to assume this is sarcasm.
He is brilliant!
