@@ManAndBoy75 thank you! It would be a worthwhile trip if that was all you did. Of course there is much more to see while you are here, but the Sierra are majestic☺️
First off, loved your video and the story you told about how you prepared for the trip. Quite an accomplishment! My question is about permits and logistics. I live out of state (MN) and I'm curious how you got back to your car after your hike. I had thought about flying in next summer and trying to take public transit to the western starting point (crescent or wolverton) and then after my completion grabbing a bus up to Reno for a flight home. Just wondering how you did it....also, what permits did you have to pull and was it hard to get? My travel dates are flexible but I'm not sure about traveling out there without a permit in hand. Thanks again for the help and thanks also for sharing your adventure~!
@markb.4988 I'm really happy you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words! In terms of the return trip I'm very lucky and have an incredibly generous mother who offered to pick me up at the Whitney Portal and make the long loop back around to Sequoia. You can absolutely take public transit from (I believe) Visalia up to Sequoia NP. There are also busses from Lone Pine to Reno-Tahoe International via the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority. Your plan seems totally doable and much simpler than renting a car and dealing with getting back to the West side. I hope you can do it, and if you do, please come back and let me know how it went. Stoked for you and the excitement you'll have over then next six months of planning and prep!
@@patricksparksadventures Thanks so much for the reply. Already have the maps out and the planning has begun!! One question I had was about permits. Did you have to apply? How/where etc. Any help on that process is really appreciated!!
@@markb.4988 Awesome! I got excited and forgot to answer that part of your original question haha! Permits are acquired via the Rec.gov website. You'll search for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park Wilderness Permits. The one you want is just called 'High Sierra Trail' and I believe you can get them up to six months in advance. This trail is typically not that difficult to get a permit for so you shouldn't have much difficulty booking one. I do believe you need to pick up the permit at the visitor center when you arrive at Sequoia NP, but that's pretty easy and gives you a chance to talk to the Rangers about any timely or conditional info they have to share. Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
@@patricksparksadventures Thanks so much for the reply and the answers. I've read so much online about how hard it can be to get permits etc. I'll have a look and see if I can find the right permit then backtrack 6 months to my "start date" and go from there. Thanks again so much.
Nice video 🙂👍
