This has got to be the most insightful reaction video I've ever seen about my videos. It's been almost two years since I made the Pokémon Scarlet review. My thoughts haven't really changed but like you said in the video about moving on, I've realized the current direction of the series isn't something I'm interested in. I can understand how you enjoy it even though I don't agree with it. But if we can agree on one thing, The Bird can stay. Keep up the good work man. Curious to see what Demeech December brings!
From an outsider’s perspective who’s never played SV, hearing a lot of the video just be “graphics bad, too easy” reminds me a lot of people criticising Pixar’s Cars over the years with “why are they Cars? That doesn’t add to the story” as if they’re giving some new groundbreaking take rather than rehashing the same tired talking points. Anyway so if you need a voice for the definitely upcoming strawman character, you know who to call, I’ll have the fake Arlo voice at the ready. I will be there for Demeech December no matter what.

While I generally disagree with the Graphics doesn't matter crowd, I don't like where the discussion of the graphics do matter crowd takes it as there does come a point where you have to ask, "then what are you expecting" and then you just hear them expect something unrealistic for a game of Pokemon's scale like SV using Persona 5 (a game that while beautiful is not an open world nor and adventure game) or Breath of the Wild (a game that doesn't have to account for over 1000 monsters on the same level of detail as how BoTW treats its animals and insects.) I mean if Palworld a team of new Indie devs with Sony backing struggles to do this or Yo-kai watch's version of dexit was far harsher then SwSh, then how is "the most profitible media franchise is going to fare". For SV I just want the game to do a better job at hiding the tricks they use like the mountains warping, pokemon materializing into thin air, and the texture wrapping for things at a far distance.
That whole tangent at 59:10 about moving on from something that isn't for you anymore, _I feel this so much._ I know too many people who keep going back to new stuff in franchises they're nostalgic for even though they hate the new stuff, and it's frustrating seeing this cycle again and again instead of just choosing to move on. Also as someone who's never heard of Demeech before this video, that whole end skit was _wild._
As an avid Demeech viewer, he's one of those RUclipsrs where most of his major videos will be completely lost on people who haven't caught up with his lore

I may think that the tweets at 33:36 are poorly worded like "people obsessed with graphics" does somewhat minimize the problem, but they do have a point about leaving the Twitter bubble. I was incredibly excited for S/V, and when the glitches started spreading around online pre-launch, i started to contemplate if I'd even get Violet at all. But i wanted to judge the games for myself and lo and behold. They're some of my new favorites
Same, I like Violet for what it is. I did experience the a small potions of glitches, frame rates dips and crashes, but overall I had a pretty fun time with the story, Pokemon, and characters. My favortive characters are Miriam, Arven, and Larry.
@@ShounenAyt I never ran into any glitches, and the performance was bad, they are still games I treasure though. The Treasures of Ruin are awesome, and Ogerpon is best girly.
I love how demeech’s videos start out as a 15 minute yapping session, then turn into straw man lore and “twitter user disagrees with me, i am mad” and finally end on what can only be described as level 10000 brainrot + ultra.
As someone who's abandoned Pokémon as a franchise after Sun and Moon, only playing Shining Pearl since then for a nostalgia rush, I think you broke down why the series still has value better than anyone else has and may have even convinced me to perhaps try Scarlet and Violet. About 5 years ago, I had this belief that Pokémon refused to grow up with its audience and lost its star power as a franchise for not being able to adapt to what the people who grew up with and stood by the series want from it. Looking back, I realize just how stupid of a mindset this is. Like, how dare they make a Pokémon game for children. Is the series behind compared to other RPGs? Yes, absolutely. Does it deserve more time in the oven? 100 percent. But the way you structured your argument has shown me that the foundation of Pokémon is still growing, even if the lack of polish doesn't make it obvious. The problem that Demeech runs into is that, while I actually agree with a lot of his critiques about modern Nintendo games, he analyzes them at an extremely surface level and exaggerates his points to such a high degree that it's impossible for me to take him seriously, and it makes me question what his goal even is other than to make people angry or indulge in retro reviewer nostalgia.
My biggest issue with demeech is that while I agree with some of his opinions in general, it's coming from a person who doesn't really have anything to add nor really articulates why these are a problem nor do I have good faith that if you sat him down and talked to him about it, he would be civil about it or ellaborate. The Parrot that he uses a lot feels like a damning indictment. It's the same reason I stopped watching Radicalsoda after awhile. Imo Scarlet and Violet are flawed but aren't even close to the worse the series has to offer.

I've watched Anthony Gramuglia's three stream reactions on it; he had to do it in three sittings and gave up after the Gen 8 """review""". The video was that awful. Funny thing about her consistently dying in the early-game: she could've avoided all that trouble if she didn't hack in that Ralts to replace the water starter and used an actual starter Pokémon in her team (all because she's too impatient to just catch a Ralts naturally too btw). The base stage starters naturally have like (at least) a x1.5 higher base stat total compared to Ralts, and a better movepool too. Ralts typically gets good when becoming Gardevoir (though not _as_ OP as Lily claims), which the rest of the game is not adjusted towards, so Lily unknowingly created a self-imposed challenge. She played herself. Also her take on Shiny hunting is so mind-numbing ("just cheat lol") that Schaffrillas dunked on it on Twitter (people then compared it to George Wood which in turn reminded me of Caddicarus)

That mindest of you pokemon you like in every Gen is a mistake i did and the main and huge reason I replay Pokemon Shield since I use Two different eeveloution I strognly like at that time I got the game.

I feel like that moment, right there, is just a straight up bad take. While the idea of "fun does not equal good" would apply to something like a movie, but with a game, to quote Reggie: "If it isn't fun, why bother?" The main point of a game is to be fun. If a game is flawed, even severely so, it can still be fun. In that sense, a game being fun makes it good. If the flews are severe enough to make it bad, that's because those flaws impede on the game enough to make it no longer fun.

It was sad watching him go from a kinda regular Nintendo RUclipsr that got mad sometimes but it was about Mario Maker 3DS lol to completely insane and over exaggerate everything and attack people who disagree with him for views.
Yeah :( I was there for his beginnings and really enjoyed his content but just kinda trailed off it. Just recently watched the first video in a year plus, I think he just needs to take a step back and analyze his channel's identity.
2:00 big agree, every game since x and y has been trending in a positive direction, Sun and moon had the best story in Pokémon to date then, sword and shield did such a good job of getting me interested in the VGC competitive scene with all their qol improvement. PLA was an amazing breath of life for the series, it told a great story with nostalgia ties to the first ever Pokémon game I owned in diamond and made me fall in love with catching again and not to mention the HYPEST battle ever in Pokémon, the balls of them to break the rules of the series and make you fight a 6v8 battle! But no game has given me as much enjoyment as scarlet and violet, numerous qol improvements for both casual play and especially for competitive battling and they made shiny hunting vastly more doable for the average person, and the story man the way it all came together and culminated in such an emotional way.
Scarlet and Violet being the games that “RUINED” Pokemon is crazy considering Sword and Shield were basically the same game just with NO ambition. I definitely feel a lot more forgiving to SVs flaws just for the fact that they did actually new things. Like even if it should be a lot better from the highest grossing franchise ever, I’d much rather have a Pokémon game that’s flawed and buggy but switches the formula up in a huge genuinely exciting way with stuff like the open world, than that exact game but with no changes where it’s the same “walk in a straight line and you’ll end up at Victory Road” formula we’ve seen for a decade now

One time on the official Nintendo Twitter during the hype cycle for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, I make a joke about how Kirby games have a lot more love and care put into them than a lot of the recent Mario games and so many people called me a Demeech alt, which felt insulting since I hate Demeech and his toxic content.
It's not as if every video of his is like this. He's much more positive and optimistic in other videos. He even defended Yoshi's Crafted World, although that was a while ago.
You know how people make fun of Mr. Enter's old videos where he raged over bad cartoon episode? Demeech is like a video game version of those old videos.

The "Biggest Multimedia Franchise" argument is SO bad in my opinion. Just because it makes a lot of money doesn't mean it needs to be top tier or at the cutting edge. Sure, something that makes that much money should be expected to have a level of quality that they aren't meeting, but this argument is such a lazy dismissal of a much more nuanced thing. It also shows no awareness of how game development works 😂
That saying is all dried up and overused now like i don't care if it's the biggest multimedia franchise that's just it multimedia you can enjoy other things in pokemon like the anime or cards not just the games the games aren't even the main money makers anyway

Many companies intentionally keep their dev teams small so they can have a more focused vision and a more consistent product. You ever wonder who indie developers still take lots of time to make content even after they hit it big? It’s because just throwing money at something does not make it better.
It's why I don't really use that point anymore, or at least not as often. I do think the reason people do use it is because of what you said in the middle about it not meeting the level quality for something that big but I've chalked up the problem to more of a time issue. Time is very important to making a quality product and it's clear that Pokemon cannot work under this time frame but since so much hinges on that late November release and delays are out of the question (which I guess could be argued that has to do with money) their screwed. Pokemon's issues are much more deep rooted and complex than "throw more money at it and everything will work out".
Pokémon's biggest hater is actually Ludomancer. (Literally has a video where the thumbnail says "Pokémon has always been garbage." IGN review about Sonic ahh statement)

I was thinking at first maybe like me Demeech like me just simply does not value difficulty in the sense that I don't care if a game is too easy or not, but then that idea got ruined by him when he talked about Gen 7.
I watched Demeech for a little while (mostly for his Mario related content), but I dipped when he started bringing up his hatred for Scarlet & Violet/modern Pokémon in almost EVERY single video he made, including videos that had nothing to do with Pokémon at all, like his rant on easy modes in Nintendo games. I'm not even a Pokémon fan myself, but to say it got beyond tiring and annoying to see would be an understatement, especially since he would just keep repeating the same points over and over again. I was literally thinking to myself _"Oh my God, dude... WE GET IT ALREADY! Just move on, will you?!"_ I stopped following him around the time Palworld came out, because surprise surprise, just like most other RUclipsrs at the time, he started fawning all over it and used it as an excuse to sh*t on Pokémon some more and "own" the fanboys. I myself don't care one bit about the whole Pokémon vs Palworld debate. Whichever one is supposedly "better" doesn't matter to me. I just really couldn't be bothered to deal with such childish behavior.
4:24 Imma be that guy. Except I'd say SS was when modern Pokemon got stale before SV and LA turned things around. XY is definitely piss easy compared to other games. But difficulty isn't really a super important factor for me since Pokemon has always been customizable with the team building and there's other things to look forward to like lore, world design, and other things. Also 9 out of 10 times difficulty complaints come from people whose teams consists of meta-threats or people who have the grind mindset lol
I think because of some of the shortcomings of the performance issues, we forget the Story of S/V is actually pretty decent at the least. Wish Terapagos had more of a story like Ogrepon did, but i guess theyre gonna rely on the Anime for that.
I think the problem with Terrapagos was that they had built a different narrative (a much richer one, if I may) with Carmine and Kieran, but they still had to explain the Terastilization lore, so they just slapped Terrapagos at the end.
I usually don't write long comments but I just have to yap for a bit, I'll at least try to format my comment nicely so it's not just a wall of text lol. I think that Demeech's video perfectly encapsulates why I don't like to engage in Pokemon discourse on the internet. (Though to be fair I don't really engage in much internet discourse in general.) While Scarlet and Violet aren't perfect games by any means, it feels like a lot of long time Pokemon fans turned haters have made it their mission not just to criticize any new titles releasing (Which is fine, I personally would say that constantly complaining about a franchise you don't enjoy isn't a great use of time but I'm not going to tell you how to spend your time), but to make those who do enjoy modern Pokemon feel bad for doing so. Maybe I'm just fighting shadows but I feel like a lot of times whenever someone criticizes modern Pokemon they also imply things like "If you buy new Pokemon games, YOU are the reason the franchise is trash now." or "If you enjoy these games then you are telling Game Freak that you are okay with low-quality slop." At least that's the vibe I get whenever people bring up that Scarlet and Violet sold 10 million copies in three days, and it feels like they use this fact to prop themselves up as smart consumers who don't advocate for garbage. (Which is ironic since most of these people also bought the game lol) Don't get me wrong, there are plenty to things to criticize Scarlet and Violet for. The state it was released in was embarrassing from a technical standpoint. The graphics while not terrible in my eyes, aren't up to snuff with other Nintendo IP's. I loved interacting with the staff at the academy but at the same time it felt like the academy wasn't as fleshed out as it could've been. The lack of voice acting is extremely disappointing especially considering other Nintendo RPG's like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade, (It also made Ryme's gym challenge rather awkward) and the fact that there is an intended order for an open-world game is goofy. These are just a couple of criticisms you can throw at SV and I feel like the narrative of "Pokemon fans will just excuse every problem the franchise has because it's Pokemon" isn't true, Pokemon fans are just able to enjoy the franchise in spite of these problems. There's is a argument to be had that Pokemon has changed for the worse since the series went to 3D but at this point so many have repeated the same arguments that it's just tiring. Especially with how many also use it as an opportunity to glaze older generations. I'm a Gen 5 Andy and the amount of times I've heard people say "Pokemon is so soulless now just look at how much love and care was given to Gen 5!" its almost made me want to start hating Gen 5 out of spite lol. And again, it's fine if you don't like modern Pokemon but when I hear people like Demeech ranting about Pokemon, I just want to tell them "Hey, maybe Pokemon is no longer your thing and you should get over it. Might I recommend Persona?" Also If I could go on a little rant on my own for a bit, I despise the whole "Just becasue it's fun doesn't mean it's good" argument. Like sure, i get what you're saying but also please shut up. You could take a video game that I like and scientifically prove that it's a bad game, but if I'm having fun with the game, doesn't that make it being a "bad game" irrelevant? If a video game is fun, doesn't that mean it accomplished its job as a video game, therefore making it good? Do people not remember what Reggie said? Me personally I loved Scarlet and Violet. I dropped it after about the second gym initially, but one day I just had the urge to play it again and absolutely fell in love with it. I loved the story, and characters, I loved exploring Paldea, I loved most of the new Pokemon introduced, I just couldn't stop playing it. And by the time I reached the end credits I felt a sense of satisfaction and joy I haven't felt since Sun and Moon. Sure it has it's problems and it is upsetting that Pokemon isn't getting the time it needs to be the best it can be but I still had an amazing time with it. In fact I like every generation of Pokemon. I think there's plenty to love in each generation. (Yes hello I am Gen 6 enjoyer and I must say your SLANDER....was completely valid I can't argue against your criticisms lol) Maybe this comment didn't have anything of substance and I just wasted my time but if there's one thing I want to to be taken from my yapping, is that Pokemon is fun to talk about when you're not dealing with those who refuse to give the newer games credit, or those who refuse to see any issues the franchise has. Actually that's a statement that goes for any piece of media in general. Given that Pokemon has spanned nearly three whole decades, there's so much to talk about. If you hate the newer games, that's fine. If you hate the older games, that's fine too. Just don't be a dick about it. Opinions are valid and I think taking them too seriously is quite silly.
I have 3 thing about this video. 1. Demmech videos when we were watching on stream were not fun to watch since his take his have lot of stawnman and shame people who don't think strongly as him (Case in Point the parrot he use for stawnman and him attacking a commenter from his Mario Sriker battle Leauge for saying that they don't think the game is the worst thing ever made.) So it put me in a bad light about him. I don't mind Demeech December but I may have not much to say. Since the other games he review are games I haven't played and don't have a Opinion on. 2. I don't get why some old school pokemon want to bring back grinding when most of time Especially in pokemom that a ton of time to do. When most older fans don't much time do so as much as the younger fans. I don't mind gamefreak finding a way to level up your pokemon quicker without a ton of time on griding. I mean there already lucky egg but it don't help that much. Since when I battle the pokemon leauge in 4 for the first It brute force and made me mad for whole final batlle with Cynthina and the Elite 4. 3. As for the me play Pokemon Sapphire is fun bur having a tough to love since wirh Grind is there. I still stand as I mention. Since I going replay Shield soon and I know it be more fun to play to me I don't have to grind and have other ways in Gen 8 that make leveling up easiler for me. Making the Gen 8 and Gen 9 the best pokemon games it come to leveling up pokemon and with it level scaling.
Yeah Despite the flaws that they have that not bad pokemon games. I would still like to Play the older pokemon. But, I proably enjoy the remix more so. Since Gameplay wise they ard better then the orginal. The only old pokemon game i would truly play Platuim since both DP and BDSP are boring and blend pokedex. And this is from the same person who play Gen 6 but skip Gen 7 due tot the Mario Party at the time and return to Pokemom In Gen 8
Couldn't have said it better myself. Demeech started off somewhat tolerable, but his garbage opinions on Pokemon and his overly crass criticism of anyone who dares defend the games he doesn't like are exactly why I unsubscribed from him in late 2022. There's only so many times you can see and hear someone blow their top over a game that honestly isn't that bad gameplay-wise before he becomes a broken record, and the fact Demeech was overly obsessed with bashing this game (along with Mario Strikers: Battle League and Nintendo Switch Sports) for most of 2022 and 2023 just shows how close-minded and arrogant he is!
Watch out, Demeech is gonna call you a mindless shill for daring to say something positive about modern Pokémon like he does to most people who rightfully call him out.
I remember his takes on 3D All Stars pissing me off. Afterwards it felt like all his takes were the average twitter takes where people whine about everything Nintendo does. Which is ironic, given how much he whines about Twitter.
Used to watch Demeech, definitely agreed with a few of his points (such as Battle League and Switch sports) but Pokemon S/V was a massive exception, the game is generally pretty good aside from it’s flaws And yeah, I really shouldn’t care to watch a guy who over exaggerates his reviews to this degree
I don’t like to dunk on RUclipsrs, but it is funny seeing Demeech ragging on anime profile pictures when his own profile picture is, in my opinion, more juvenile and cringe. Especially with his exaggerated use of ‘characters’; that random segue with Petey the Parrot, Diego, and Kablooey is more cringey than any anime profile pic I’ve seen. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. You tore him apart, Musty. Great reaction to an unequivocally terrible video by an irrelevant RUclipsr.
The last section reminds me of the absurdity seen in DogsEatingDogs6/Super Origami Kingdom type videos, but arguably more embarassing because it comes off like "I made you the soyjak and myself the chad" instead of being "so bad it's really funny".
Here's to hoping Demeech decides to start playing games they actually like to make content on in the future Admittedly I can't watch this video all the way through, the constant angry and aggressive tone he takes and the constant use of strawman arguments are two issues I take with people trying to bring up internet discussion that make it insufferable for me to watch. Well done for sitting through it, but I'm gonna sit this one out at least attention-wise and just go play Stardew as this is the kinda person I feel like no matter how many valid points you bring up they just go "But I said thing bad so THING BAD STOP LIKING THING". This Demeech guy has been making me think that my whole life (mostly Pokémon) wasn’t worth it. It bruised my childhood memories a lot! If I was a bigger RUclipsr, I would be making a huge script for a huge “Pokémon Retrospective” that would release on July 8. But why that day specifically? That day is the birthday of the late Misty English voice actress Rachael Lillis. As of now, the only thing I want from Legends ZA is a tribute to her. Like, a kid who says her late mother was a great trainer! And the only thing the kid has to remember her… is a Jigglypuff. Nickname “Rachael” in English, or “リリス” in Japanese. That’s all *I* want. I will never forget the time he put Kirby Star Allies on the same level as Mario Strikers Battle League. That's probably one of the more absurd takes I've ever heard, and this is coming from someone who actually likes Battle League.

1:32 this is such a healthy take I wish people would do instead of getting constantly furious. Does it suck? Yeah. However that is just the way it is and Pokémon will probably never be on the cutting edge of graphics. To me I enjoy them like a fun candy bar instead of expecting a 5 star meal.

I think at the time this video was uploaded I was actually mutuals on Twitter with the person who made the tweet at 33:22. I remember actually being kind of upset when I saw the account being smeared in the video. I don't remember their username unfortunately, but IIRC they eventually just stopped using Twitter. I think this was way before stuff like Bluesky, so I'm not sure where they would be now. Pretty sure the person was genuinely one of the most positive folks I knew on Nintendo Twitter at the time too. It had to take mental fortitude as hard as a diamond to be that positive and mature in the company of "critical" Nintendo fans on Twitter.

The minute I started this video, I got flashbacks about THAT French-talking RUclipsr who made a video about this game where he basically destroyed this game and roasts everyone who thinks it was good…
As a friend of Demeech and judging from many of the comments here, many people have the wrong idea about him that he's just an overly negative person that's not happy about anything and if you disagree with him on the tiniest thing, you're automatically a corporate shill/fanboy that must believe the Switch is the second coming of Jesus and criticism is bad. When that's not the case at all. He has no issue with people enjoying games he doesn't. A lot of his content going over Nintendo last year and throughout this year has been mostly positive. Even stuff he's more critical of like the Switch remaster of Dark Moon being a fairly basic re-release for $60, he's more nuanced and objective. He's not flying into "UNHINGED PSYCHO FURY DEMEECH!!!!! RAWR!!!!!!" over every little thing and making a game, or a trifecta of games his entire identity. He initially hated the DLC for 8 Deluxe because of how low quality the first wave was and the fact it meant Mario Kart 9 wouldn't happen on Switch, but the quality of the DLC improved with each subsequent wave got better, plus the addition of new characters and features. And he's satisfied with the DLC. When it comes to his criticisms on S/V, I do think many of his criticisms are valid. And I'm someone who isn't a Pokemon fan, I hated how the game turned out, and it came from Nintendo, a company that prides itself on delivering very polished experiences, it was quite concerning. It felt like maybe Nintendo wasn't caring about the quality of their games anymore. It's really unfortunate because S/V could possibly be the best entries in the series if they weren't so buggy and broken. I do think constantly bringing up Pokemon's issues alongside Switch Sports and Battle League did hurt him and really mar his relationship with quite a few in the community. It's fine to criticize, but he was beating a dead horse and it did get repetitive. He's moved on from that period, which I'm glad about. And he went from "Nintendo hater" to "Nintendo shill", it's something we'd joke about from the second half of last year throughout this year.
If that is the case, that he's not as spite driven as this video makes out (the strangely nitpicking criticisms, along with the whole strawman parrot, to name a few examples) he did a poor job convincing me of that It's been 2 years, so I don't doubt he's changed, ideally for the better, and as his friend you have a lot of context about him both as a online critic and a friend that I had none of going in to this reaction Either way, you're a real one for looking out for your friend, but don't worry, I am his biggest new fan now, #demeechdecember
Ah, the beginning of the Demeech saga. I remember it like it was yesterday. If you look closely, you might notice a pattern here. "This could open up a very interesting conversation". "Could" being the operative word here because that kind of conversation never comes because Demeech singles in on the game's shortcomings way too much. Now, I wouldn't call myself an SV glazer. I have multiple problems with this game and feel like the fun:not fun ratio is a bit closer than I would like it to be. Nevertheless I do think SV does deserve some flowers in a lot of what it tries to do especially when you take into account the immense crunch Game Freak has been under. I at least think it deserves more nuance than a bunch of GameCube era gamer takes and strawman parrots. In general I think the main take away is Pokemon is still far behind in what it could (and probably should) be in multiple aspects but it's best to understand whether you want to meet the game at the level it was forced into and judge it according to that or just not put up with something you believe is lower quality and move onto a similar more realized experience. Demeech in this video not only feels like he does neither but also just presents his points in a manner that breeds annoyance by either being adverse to perfectly fine mechanics or getting mad at Twitter users that no sane, civil person would engage with. The crocodile man's fighting shadows and children.
I agree, the guy has so much potential of being a great Nintendo RUclipsr, however his biases and ego are keeping him from reaching that. We need negativity to keep us grounded, but not in a way to put down others. I don't know if this Deemech December will either help him realize his mistakes or double down on his view of "Nintendo Shills". Only time will tell.

I think I found Demeech’s repetitive talking points more annoying than it was funny. It’d be one thing if it was in videos talking about the specific subjects. But it soon was harder and harder to ignore how he kept inserting subjects into videos where it didn’t feel like they belonged. (He used to really overuse Battle League and Pokemon to the point where it felt like it was killing whatever pacing he had left). I don’t even care for Pokemon anymore. My last Pokemon game was Gen 7, which was the last game I transferred most of the Pokemon I accumulated from. In hindsight, I wish I kept them in 6 because 7 was probably the worst in terms of Online hub interfaces. And I remember how me and my friends hated playing online now. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were the last ones I bought. After that, the switch entries had the mainline games go from $40 to $60, had paid online, and then the Dexit happened. I think that’s when I called it quits on the series. Demeech should’ve had a very easy time convincing me. But he just repeated himself way too often and he usually didn’t have very compelling arguments.

Edit: Also that Parrot is one of the most cringe things I have ever watched a RUclipsr do. And I watched that video where the guy race swapped all of the Family Guy characters to make a point.

24:04 Sir Musty, I must disagree with you that Skeledirge is the weakest starter of Gen 9, but it will be based on competitive pokemon. Skeledirge is the strongest with it's great defensive typing of being part ghost, it's amazing bulk, along with it's hidden ability Unaware meaning the opponent can't increase it's stats cause it'll ignore it. But in the main game, yeah, Meowscrada and Quaquaval are more useful.

I've said this a lot and I'll say it again. Personally, I think Scarlet and Violet are really great games. I think all of the mainline games have something going for them. However, I haven't been huge on modern pokemon because of gimmick forms. I wish after Gen 6, pokemon would just keep adding more mega evolutions, but instead they started adding Z moves, Gigantimax, and Terastallized pokemon. Which would've been fine with me if these weren't kept in seperate games. I would've loved to see mega evolutions or even Z moves in Gen 8 & 9 but I feel sad that they were kind of "left behind" for these new gimmick forms. I'm certain they'll return mega evolutions in Z-A, but I wish they were always there and that we wouldn't just keep getting more and more gimmicks. Another critique with "modern pokemon" is with the power creep & and what I call "Legendary Vomit" (Which extends to mythicals, too.) In generation IX we got like 18 legendary and mythical pokemon which is just insane to me.

The Treasures of Ruin felt like they were toeing the line a bit, but they reminded me of the Regies, and I though they were alright. The Loyal Three should not have been Legendaries at all.

Saying that S/V RUINED the franchise is a very bold take. I don't think the game is perfect, but it's by no means the worst thing Pokémon has ever put out. My girlfriend and I got S/V a few months ago(it being her first Pokémon game), and we've both been enjoying it a lot despite it's flaws. Demeech wasn't providing constructive criticism like he claimed to be, he's simply just not ready to accept that's he's not a part of the target audience anymore.
I don't know if you're aware of the group formally known as Super Origami Kingdom, but I feel Demeech would fit right in with them, especially with the utter nonsense towards the end of his video.

Oh gosh i remember this guy, he made some video about how Nintendo Switch Sports was like... The devil itself or something, and like yeah its not as good as it should have been but its not some sin against humanity, its just a Mediocre Sports Game. You can probably still have some fun with it, especially bringing it to like a family gathering and ESPECIALLY if said family remembers playing wii sports Scarlet and Violet has its issues but overall its one of my favorite pokemon games, the pokemon designs were good the story was AMAZING (for a pokemon story, at least, this was a breath of fresh air compared to sword and shield), the characters are unique and fun, and overall the game is just GOOD. ...then again, i have opinions that many pokemon fans would want to slaughter me over so maybe im not the best person to ask about this lol
Also I don't think it's just the level jump in Gen 4 and BDSP that makes Cynthia seem so much harder than she is, it's the fact that all of the other teams are so underpowered until you get to her. DP and BDSP have this problem worse considering they only have 150 Pokemon to work with, and even then the tons of legendaries Gen 4 introduced lower that number a lot. Like on the Elite Four you have Beautifly, Dustox, Sudowoodo, Lopunny, and Girafarig, which are pretty weak mons for those kinds of trainers to have, then Cynthia comes out with units like Milotic, Spiritomb, Gastrodon, and Garchomp, like no shit she's gonna be tough when most first time players get caught off guard by the difficulty spike due to her using actually good mons. And BDSP worsened this issue since she has competitive items on her mons like Marvel Scale on Milotic holding a Flame Orb or Yache Berry on Garchomp for Ice moves. Meanwhile every other major trainers like the rival, gyms, and evil team use relatively underpowered mons, even having some mons be unevolved despite being at levels where they SHOULD'VE been evolved. Sinnoh's problem isn't the level jump, it's the fact that most of the teams you come across up until Cynthia are piss easy to beat
I know I commented twice already, but I will say this about Crystal Clear. The problem with that game is that outside of the gyms there is nothing to drive progress, making it kind of feel bland when traversing Johto. I think the difference is at least with Scarlet and Violet they COULD'VE done level scaling on the bosses and it would've made more sense considering all the areas are evenly distributed making it so you actually can traverse the region like an open world. But the older games were designed in such a way to be a fixed story path. Hell, my own Fakemon region that I want to make into a room hack is designed in the same way. The way I think you COULD do an older gen region design that feels open world is if you made it so the gyms could be fought in any order but the other things like rival fights and the evil factions were fixed story paths locked behind having a certain number of badges. Like I thought of this where in my region you fight like 1-2 gyms and get a call from an important character about some people causing a ruckus near one of the starting areas, then after 4 gym badges, then 7, then after getting all 8 and getting to the league you hear they shut down because of the climactic event with the evil team. It still allows for freedom in your adventure and being able to choose if you want to make it easy by taking on easier typed leaders first or harder with the ones that are more difficult earlier in the game. However it also doesn't make progression feel aimless like Crystal Clear since you still need to go back to specific areas and visit certain key locations for the sake of the plot
My biggest disappointment with scarlet and violet is that roped off area outside the north province 1 and 2 part of the map didnt get opened up smh It's the one big part of the main map you can't go to. Except maybe the dlc story, i hated i had to betray Kieran. I'd rather fight his bitch sister. I've played gen 1-3 missed 4, played 5, missed 6, hated 7 and thought i just grew out of pokemon but loved 8 (worst part was there weren't more train scenes and lackluster environments) gen 9 cemented that I love pokemon still. I'm excited for the next gen tbh, I hope we get a more complete game though with the time they're given.
Say what you will about SV's bad optimization, it 100% needed at least a few more months to another year to get some much needed polish (which is why I'm glad there is no game this year). The story was great, the fact that they were able to make two nicely contained storylines (the base game then both DLC parts) that kind of complement each other well and then ultimately come together in a final epilogue is something we haven't seen before really with Pokemon. Plus the fact that this is the first time since Gen 5 that we got actual story events tied to the current generation's mythical Pokemon is a cherry on top (and no, I don't count the Diancite gift in X and Y or the Prison Bottle dialogue in ORAS). SV were good games that were only really held back because they didn't have enough time to actually optimize the games to run smoothly.
This has got to be the most insightful reaction video I've ever seen about my videos. It's been almost two years since I made the Pokémon Scarlet review. My thoughts haven't really changed but like you said in the video about moving on, I've realized the current direction of the series isn't something I'm interested in. I can understand how you enjoy it even though I don't agree with it. But if we can agree on one thing, The Bird can stay.

From an outsider’s perspective who’s never played SV, hearing a lot of the video just be “graphics bad, too easy” reminds me a lot of people criticising Pixar’s Cars over the years with “why are they Cars? That doesn’t add to the story” as if they’re giving some new groundbreaking take rather than rehashing the same tired talking points.
Anyway so if you need a voice for the definitely upcoming strawman character, you know who to call, I’ll have the fake Arlo voice at the ready. I will be there for Demeech December no matter what.

While I generally disagree with the Graphics doesn't matter crowd, I don't like where the discussion of the graphics do matter crowd takes it as there does come a point where you have to ask, "then what are you expecting" and then you just hear them expect something unrealistic for a game of Pokemon's scale like SV using Persona 5 (a game that while beautiful is not an open world nor and adventure game) or Breath of the Wild (a game that doesn't have to account for over 1000 monsters on the same level of detail as how BoTW treats its animals and insects.) I mean if Palworld a team of new Indie devs with Sony backing struggles to do this or Yo-kai watch's version of dexit was far harsher then SwSh, then how is "the most profitible media franchise is going to fare".
For SV I just want the game to do a better job at hiding the tricks they use like the mountains warping, pokemon materializing into thin air, and the texture wrapping for things at a far distance.
That whole tangent at 59:10 about moving on from something that isn't for you anymore, _I feel this so much._ I know too many people who keep going back to new stuff in franchises they're nostalgic for even though they hate the new stuff, and it's frustrating seeing this cycle again and again instead of just choosing to move on.

Same, I like Violet for what it is. I did experience the a small potions of glitches, frame rates dips and crashes, but overall I had a pretty fun time with the story, Pokemon, and characters.
My favortive characters are Miriam, Arven, and Larry.

I love how demeech’s videos start out as a 15 minute yapping session, then turn into straw man lore and “twitter user disagrees with me, i am mad” and finally end on what can only be described as level 10000 brainrot + ultra.
As someone who's abandoned Pokémon as a franchise after Sun and Moon, only playing Shining Pearl since then for a nostalgia rush, I think you broke down why the series still has value better than anyone else has and may have even convinced me to perhaps try Scarlet and Violet. About 5 years ago, I had this belief that Pokémon refused to grow up with its audience and lost its star power as a franchise for not being able to adapt to what the people who grew up with and stood by the series want from it. Looking back, I realize just how stupid of a mindset this is. Like, how dare they make a Pokémon game for children. Is the series behind compared to other RPGs? Yes, absolutely. Does it deserve more time in the oven? 100 percent. But the way you structured your argument has shown me that the foundation of Pokémon is still growing, even if the lack of polish doesn't make it obvious. The problem that Demeech runs into is that, while I actually agree with a lot of his critiques about modern Nintendo games, he analyzes them at an extremely surface level and exaggerates his points to such a high degree that it's impossible for me to take him seriously, and it makes me question what his goal even is other than to make people angry or indulge in retro reviewer nostalgia.

My biggest issue with demeech is that while I agree with some of his opinions in general, it's coming from a person who doesn't really have anything to add nor really articulates why these are a problem nor do I have good faith that if you sat him down and talked to him about it, he would be civil about it or ellaborate. The Parrot that he uses a lot feels like a damning indictment. It's the same reason I stopped watching Radicalsoda after awhile. Imo Scarlet and Violet are flawed but aren't even close to the worse the series has to offer.

Funny thing about her consistently dying in the early-game: she could've avoided all that trouble if she didn't hack in that Ralts to replace the water starter and used an actual starter Pokémon in her team (all because she's too impatient to just catch a Ralts naturally too btw). The base stage starters naturally have like (at least) a x1.5 higher base stat total compared to Ralts, and a better movepool too. Ralts typically gets good when becoming Gardevoir (though not _as_ OP as Lily claims), which the rest of the game is not adjusted towards, so Lily unknowingly created a self-imposed challenge. She played herself.
Also her take on Shiny hunting is so mind-numbing ("just cheat lol") that Schaffrillas dunked on it on Twitter (people then compared it to George Wood which in turn reminded me of Caddicarus)

I feel like that moment, right there, is just a straight up bad take. While the idea of "fun does not equal good" would apply to something like a movie, but with a game, to quote Reggie: "If it isn't fun, why bother?" The main point of a game is to be fun. If a game is flawed, even severely so, it can still be fun. In that sense, a game being fun makes it good. If the flews are severe enough to make it bad, that's because those flaws impede on the game enough to make it no longer fun.

2:00 big agree, every game since x and y has been trending in a positive direction, Sun and moon had the best story in Pokémon to date then, sword and shield did such a good job of getting me interested in the VGC competitive scene with all their qol improvement. PLA was an amazing breath of life for the series, it told a great story with nostalgia ties to the first ever Pokémon game I owned in diamond and made me fall in love with catching again and not to mention the HYPEST battle ever in Pokémon, the balls of them to break the rules of the series and make you fight a 6v8 battle! But no game has given me as much enjoyment as scarlet and violet, numerous qol improvements for both casual play and especially for competitive battling and they made shiny hunting vastly more doable for the average person, and the story man the way it all came together and culminated in such an emotional way.
Scarlet and Violet being the games that “RUINED” Pokemon is crazy considering Sword and Shield were basically the same game just with NO ambition. I definitely feel a lot more forgiving to SVs flaws just for the fact that they did actually new things. Like even if it should be a lot better from the highest grossing franchise ever, I’d much rather have a Pokémon game that’s flawed and buggy but switches the formula up in a huge genuinely exciting way with stuff like the open world, than that exact game but with no changes where it’s the same “walk in a straight line and you’ll end up at Victory Road” formula we’ve seen for a decade now

@@Magic_Ice That point about trajectory really hits the nail on the head; Sword and Shield "ruined the franchise" apparently, but then GameFreak follows it up with Legends Arceus, which is arguably the greatest game in the series.

One time on the official Nintendo Twitter during the hype cycle for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, I make a joke about how Kirby games have a lot more love and care put into them than a lot of the recent Mario games and so many people called me a Demeech alt, which felt insulting since I hate Demeech and his toxic content.

Many companies intentionally keep their dev teams small so they can have a more focused vision and a more consistent product. You ever wonder who indie developers still take lots of time to make content even after they hit it big? It’s because just throwing money at something does not make it better.
It's why I don't really use that point anymore, or at least not as often. I do think the reason people do use it is because of what you said in the middle about it not meeting the level quality for something that big but I've chalked up the problem to more of a time issue. Time is very important to making a quality product and it's clear that Pokemon cannot work under this time frame but since so much hinges on that late November release and delays are out of the question (which I guess could be argued that has to do with money) their screwed. Pokemon's issues are much more deep rooted and complex than "throw more money at it and everything will work out".

I was thinking at first maybe like me Demeech like me just simply does not value difficulty in the sense that I don't care if a game is too easy or not, but then that idea got ruined by him when he talked about Gen 7.
I watched Demeech for a little while (mostly for his Mario related content), but I dipped when he started bringing up his hatred for Scarlet & Violet/modern Pokémon in almost EVERY single video he made, including videos that had nothing to do with Pokémon at all, like his rant on easy modes in Nintendo games. I'm not even a Pokémon fan myself, but to say it got beyond tiring and annoying to see would be an understatement, especially since he would just keep repeating the same points over and over again. I was literally thinking to myself _"Oh my God, dude... WE GET IT ALREADY! Just move on, will you?!"_
I stopped following him around the time Palworld came out, because surprise surprise, just like most other RUclipsrs at the time, he started fawning all over it and used it as an excuse to sh*t on Pokémon some more and "own" the fanboys. I myself don't care one bit about the whole Pokémon vs Palworld debate. Whichever one is supposedly "better" doesn't matter to me. I just really couldn't be bothered to deal with such childish behavior.

XY is definitely piss easy compared to other games. But difficulty isn't really a super important factor for me since Pokemon has always been customizable with the team building and there's other things to look forward to like lore, world design, and other things. Also 9 out of 10 times difficulty complaints come from people whose teams consists of meta-threats or people who have the grind mindset lol
I think because of some of the shortcomings of the performance issues, we forget the Story of S/V is actually pretty decent at the least. Wish Terapagos had more of a story like Ogrepon did, but i guess theyre gonna rely on the Anime for that.
I think the problem with Terrapagos was that they had built a different narrative (a much richer one, if I may) with Carmine and Kieran, but they still had to explain the Terastilization lore, so they just slapped Terrapagos at the end.

I think that Demeech's video perfectly encapsulates why I don't like to engage in Pokemon discourse on the internet. (Though to be fair I don't really engage in much internet discourse in general.) While Scarlet and Violet aren't perfect games by any means, it feels like a lot of long time Pokemon fans turned haters have made it their mission not just to criticize any new titles releasing (Which is fine, I personally would say that constantly complaining about a franchise you don't enjoy isn't a great use of time but I'm not going to tell you how to spend your time), but to make those who do enjoy modern Pokemon feel bad for doing so. Maybe I'm just fighting shadows but I feel like a lot of times whenever someone criticizes modern Pokemon they also imply things like "If you buy new Pokemon games, YOU are the reason the franchise is trash now." or "If you enjoy these games then you are telling Game Freak that you are okay with low-quality slop." At least that's the vibe I get whenever people bring up that Scarlet and Violet sold 10 million copies in three days, and it feels like they use this fact to prop themselves up as smart consumers who don't advocate for garbage. (Which is ironic since most of these people also bought the game lol)
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty to things to criticize Scarlet and Violet for. The state it was released in was embarrassing from a technical standpoint. The graphics while not terrible in my eyes, aren't up to snuff with other Nintendo IP's. I loved interacting with the staff at the academy but at the same time it felt like the academy wasn't as fleshed out as it could've been. The lack of voice acting is extremely disappointing especially considering other Nintendo RPG's like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade, (It also made Ryme's gym challenge rather awkward) and the fact that there is an intended order for an open-world game is goofy. These are just a couple of criticisms you can throw at SV and I feel like the narrative of "Pokemon fans will just excuse every problem the franchise has because it's Pokemon" isn't true, Pokemon fans are just able to enjoy the franchise in spite of these problems.
There's is a argument to be had that Pokemon has changed for the worse since the series went to 3D but at this point so many have repeated the same arguments that it's just tiring. Especially with how many also use it as an opportunity to glaze older generations. I'm a Gen 5 Andy and the amount of times I've heard people say "Pokemon is so soulless now just look at how much love and care was given to Gen 5!" its almost made me want to start hating Gen 5 out of spite lol. And again, it's fine if you don't like modern Pokemon but when I hear people like Demeech ranting about Pokemon, I just want to tell them "Hey, maybe Pokemon is no longer your thing and you should get over it. Might I recommend Persona?" Also If I could go on a little rant on my own for a bit, I despise the whole "Just becasue it's fun doesn't mean it's good" argument. Like sure, i get what you're saying but also please shut up. You could take a video game that I like and scientifically prove that it's a bad game, but if I'm having fun with the game, doesn't that make it being a "bad game" irrelevant? If a video game is fun, doesn't that mean it accomplished its job as a video game, therefore making it good? Do people not remember what Reggie said?
Me personally I loved Scarlet and Violet. I dropped it after about the second gym initially, but one day I just had the urge to play it again and absolutely fell in love with it. I loved the story, and characters, I loved exploring Paldea, I loved most of the new Pokemon introduced, I just couldn't stop playing it. And by the time I reached the end credits I felt a sense of satisfaction and joy I haven't felt since Sun and Moon. Sure it has it's problems and it is upsetting that Pokemon isn't getting the time it needs to be the best it can be but I still had an amazing time with it. In fact I like every generation of Pokemon. I think there's plenty to love in each generation. (Yes hello I am Gen 6 enjoyer and I must say your SLANDER....was completely valid I can't argue against your criticisms lol)
Maybe this comment didn't have anything of substance and I just wasted my time but if there's one thing I want to to be taken from my yapping, is that Pokemon is fun to talk about when you're not dealing with those who refuse to give the newer games credit, or those who refuse to see any issues the franchise has. Actually that's a statement that goes for any piece of media in general. Given that Pokemon has spanned nearly three whole decades, there's so much to talk about. If you hate the newer games, that's fine. If you hate the older games, that's fine too. Just don't be a dick about it. Opinions are valid and I think taking them too seriously is quite silly.

I have 3 thing about this video.
1. Demmech videos when we were watching on stream were not fun to watch since his take his have lot of stawnman and shame people who don't think strongly as him (Case in Point the parrot he use for stawnman and him attacking a commenter from his Mario Sriker battle Leauge for saying that they don't think the game is the worst thing ever made.) So it put me in a bad light about him. I don't mind Demeech December but I may have not much to say. Since the other games he review are games I haven't played and don't have a Opinion on.
2. I don't get why some old school pokemon want to bring back grinding when most of time Especially in pokemom that a ton of time to do. When most older fans don't much time do so as much as the younger fans. I don't mind gamefreak finding a way to level up your pokemon quicker without a ton of time on griding. I mean there already lucky egg but it don't help that much. Since when I battle the pokemon leauge in 4 for the first It brute force and made me mad for whole final batlle with Cynthina and the Elite 4.
3. As for the me play Pokemon Sapphire is fun bur having a tough to love since wirh Grind is there. I still stand as I mention. Since I going replay Shield soon and I know it be more fun to play to me I don't have to grind and have other ways in Gen 8 that make leveling up easiler for me. Making the Gen 8 and Gen 9 the best pokemon games it come to leveling up pokemon and with it level scaling.

Yeah Despite the flaws that they have that not bad pokemon games. I would still like to Play the older pokemon. But, I proably enjoy the remix more so. Since Gameplay wise they ard better then the orginal. The only old pokemon game i would truly play Platuim since both DP and BDSP are boring and blend pokedex. And this is from the same person who play Gen 6 but skip Gen 7 due tot the Mario Party at the time and return to Pokemom In Gen 8

Demeech started off somewhat tolerable, but his garbage opinions on Pokemon and his overly crass criticism of anyone who dares defend the games he doesn't like are exactly why I unsubscribed from him in late 2022. There's only so many times you can see and hear someone blow their top over a game that honestly isn't that bad gameplay-wise before he becomes a broken record, and the fact Demeech was overly obsessed with bashing this game (along with Mario Strikers: Battle League and Nintendo Switch Sports) for most of 2022 and 2023 just shows how close-minded and arrogant he is!

Used to watch Demeech, definitely agreed with a few of his points (such as Battle League and Switch sports) but Pokemon S/V was a massive exception, the game is generally pretty good aside from it’s flaws

I don’t like to dunk on RUclipsrs, but it is funny seeing Demeech ragging on anime profile pictures when his own profile picture is, in my opinion, more juvenile and cringe. I think at the time this video was uploaded I was actually mutuals on Twitter with the person who made the tweet at 33:22. I remember actually being kind of upset when I saw the account being smeared in the video. I don't remember their username unfortunately, but IIRC they eventually just stopped using Twitter. I think this was way before stuff like Bluesky, so I'm not sure where they would be now. Pretty sure the person was genuinely one of the most positive folks I knew on Nintendo Twitter at the time too. It had to take mental fortitude as hard as a diamond to be that positive and mature in the company of "critical" Nintendo fans on Twitter.

As a friend of Demeech and judging from many of the comments here, many people have the wrong idea about him that he's just an overly negative person that's not happy about anything and if you disagree with him on the tiniest thing, you're automatically a corporate shill/fanboy that must believe the Switch is the second coming of Jesus and criticism is bad. When that's not the case at all. He has no issue with people enjoying games he doesn't.
A lot of his content going over Nintendo last year and throughout this year has been mostly positive. Even stuff he's more critical of like the Switch remaster of Dark Moon being a fairly basic re-release for $60, he's more nuanced and objective. He's not flying into "UNHINGED PSYCHO FURY DEMEECH!!!!! RAWR!!!!!!" over every little thing and making a game, or a trifecta of games his entire identity. He initially hated the DLC for 8 Deluxe because of how low quality the first wave was and the fact it meant Mario Kart 9 wouldn't happen on Switch, but the quality of the DLC improved with each subsequent wave got better, plus the addition of new characters and features. And he's satisfied with the DLC.
When it comes to his criticisms on S/V, I do think many of his criticisms are valid. And I'm someone who isn't a Pokemon fan, I hated how the game turned out, and it came from Nintendo, a company that prides itself on delivering very polished experiences, it was quite concerning. It felt like maybe Nintendo wasn't caring about the quality of their games anymore. It's really unfortunate because S/V could possibly be the best entries in the series if they weren't so buggy and broken.
I do think constantly bringing up Pokemon's issues alongside Switch Sports and Battle League did hurt him and really mar his relationship with quite a few in the community. It's fine to criticize, but he was beating a dead horse and it did get repetitive. He's moved on from that period, which I'm glad about. And he went from "Nintendo hater" to "Nintendo shill", it's something we'd joke about from the second half of last year throughout this year.
If that is the case, that he's not as spite driven as this video makes out (the strangely nitpicking criticisms, along with the whole strawman parrot, to name a few examples) he did a poor job convincing me of that

Ah, the beginning of the Demeech saga. I remember it like it was yesterday.
If you look closely, you might notice a pattern here. "This could open up a very interesting conversation". "Could" being the operative word here because that kind of conversation never comes because Demeech singles in on the game's shortcomings way too much. Now, I wouldn't call myself an SV glazer. I have multiple problems with this game and feel like the fun:not fun ratio is a bit closer than I would like it to be. Nevertheless I do think SV does deserve some flowers in a lot of what it tries to do especially when you take into account the immense crunch Game Freak has been under. I at least think it deserves more nuance than a bunch of GameCube era gamer takes and strawman parrots. In general I think the main take away is Pokemon is still far behind in what it could (and probably should) be in multiple aspects but it's best to understand whether you want to meet the game at the level it was forced into and judge it according to that or just not put up with something you believe is lower quality and move onto a similar more realized experience. Demeech in this video not only feels like he does neither but also just presents his points in a manner that breeds annoyance by either being adverse to perfectly fine mechanics or getting mad at Twitter users that no sane, civil person would engage with. The crocodile man's fighting shadows and children.

I think I found Demeech’s repetitive talking points more annoying than it was funny.
It’d be one thing if it was in videos talking about the specific subjects. But it soon was harder and harder to ignore how he kept inserting subjects into videos where it didn’t feel like they belonged. (He used to really overuse Battle League and Pokemon to the point where it felt like it was killing whatever pacing he had left).
I don’t even care for Pokemon anymore. My last Pokemon game was Gen 7, which was the last game I transferred most of the Pokemon I accumulated from.
In hindsight, I wish I kept them in 6 because 7 was probably the worst in terms of Online hub interfaces. And I remember how me and my friends hated playing online now.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were the last ones I bought. After that, the switch entries had the mainline games go from $40 to $60, had paid online, and then the Dexit happened. I think that’s when I called it quits on the series.

24:04 Sir Musty, I must disagree with you that Skeledirge is the weakest starter of Gen 9, but it will be based on competitive pokemon. Skeledirge is the strongest with it's great defensive typing of being part ghost, it's amazing bulk, along with it's hidden ability Unaware meaning the opponent can't increase it's stats cause it'll ignore it. But in the main game, yeah, Meowscrada and Quaquaval are more useful.
Also 45:28 That is a shiny Slowpoke to the right unless that is some getting some weird lighting on it to make it look brighter than the one in the middle.

I've said this a lot and I'll say it again. Personally, I think Scarlet and Violet are really great games. I think all of the mainline games have something going for them. However, I haven't been huge on modern pokemon because of gimmick forms. I wish after Gen 6, pokemon would just keep adding more mega evolutions, but instead they started adding Z moves, Gigantimax, and Terastallized pokemon. Which would've been fine with me if these weren't kept in seperate games. I would've loved to see mega evolutions or even Z moves in Gen 8 & 9 but I feel sad that they were kind of "left behind" for these new gimmick forms. I'm certain they'll return mega evolutions in Z-A, but I wish they were always there and that we wouldn't just keep getting more and more gimmicks. Another critique with "modern pokemon" is with the power creep & and what I call "Legendary Vomit" (Which extends to mythicals, too.) In generation IX we got like 18 legendary and mythical pokemon which is just insane to me.

The Treasures of Ruin felt like they were toeing the line a bit, but they reminded me of the Regies, and I though they were alright. The Loyal Three should not have been Legendaries at all.

Saying that S/V RUINED the franchise is a very bold take. I don't think the game is perfect, but it's by no means the worst thing Pokémon has ever put out. My girlfriend and I got S/V a few months ago(it being her first Pokémon game), and we've both been enjoying it a lot despite it's flaws. Demeech wasn't providing constructive criticism like he claimed to be, he's simply just not ready to accept that's he's not a part of the target audience anymore.

The devil itself or something, and like yeah its not as good as it should have been but its not some sin against humanity, its just a Mediocre Sports Game. Scarlet and Violet has its issues but overall its one of my favorite pokemon games, the pokemon designs were good the story was AMAZING (for a pokemon story, at least, this was a breath of fresh air compared to sword and shield), the characters are unique and fun, and overall the game is just GOOD.
...then again, i have opinions that many pokemon fans would want to slaughter me over so maybe im not the best person to ask about this lol

Also I don't think it's just the level jump in Gen 4 and BDSP that makes Cynthia seem so much harder than she is, it's the fact that all of the other teams are so underpowered until you get to her. DP and BDSP have this problem worse considering they only have 150 Pokemon to work with, and even then the tons of legendaries Gen 4 introduced lower that number a lot. Like on the Elite Four you have Beautifly, Dustox, Sudowoodo, Lopunny, and Girafarig, which are pretty weak mons for those kinds of trainers to have, then Cynthia comes out with units like Milotic, Spiritomb, Gastrodon, and Garchomp, like no shit she's gonna be tough when most first time players get caught off guard by the difficulty spike due to her using actually good mons. And BDSP worsened this issue since she has competitive items on her mons like Marvel Scale on Milotic holding a Flame Orb or Yache Berry on Garchomp for Ice moves. Meanwhile every other major trainers like the rival, gyms, and evil team use relatively underpowered mons, even having some mons be unevolved despite being at levels where they SHOULD'VE been evolved. Sinnoh's problem isn't the level jump, it's the fact that most of the teams you come across up until Cynthia are piss easy to beat
I know I commented twice already, but I will say this about Crystal Clear. The problem with that game is that outside of the gyms there is nothing to drive progress, making it kind of feel bland when traversing Johto. I think the difference is at least with Scarlet and Violet they COULD'VE done level scaling on the bosses and it would've made more sense considering all the areas are evenly distributed making it so you actually can traverse the region like an open world. But the older games were designed in such a way to be a fixed story path. Hell, my own Fakemon region that I want to make into a room hack is designed in the same way. The way I think you COULD do an older gen region design that feels open world is if you made it so the gyms could be fought in any order but the other things like rival fights and the evil factions were fixed story paths locked behind having a certain number of badges. Like I thought of this where in my region you fight like 1-2 gyms and get a call from an important character about some people causing a ruckus near one of the starting areas, then after 4 gym badges, then 7, then after getting all 8 and getting to the league you hear they shut down because of the climactic event with the evil team. It still allows for freedom in your adventure and being able to choose if you want to make it easy by taking on easier typed leaders first or harder with the ones that are more difficult earlier in the game. However it also doesn't make progression feel aimless like Crystal Clear since you still need to go back to specific areas and visit certain key locations for the sake of the plot

I've played gen 1-3 missed 4, played 5, missed 6, hated 7 and thought i just grew out of pokemon but loved 8 (worst part was there weren't more train scenes and lackluster environments) gen 9 cemented that I love pokemon still.
I'm excited for the next gen tbh, I hope we get a more complete game though with the time they're given.
Say what you will about SV's bad optimization, it 100% needed at least a few more months to another year to get some much needed polish (which is why I'm glad there is no game this year). The story was great, the fact that they were able to make two nicely contained storylines (the base game then both DLC parts) that kind of complement each other well and then ultimately come together in a final epilogue is something we haven't seen before really with Pokemon. Plus the fact that this is the first time since Gen 5 that we got actual story events tied to the current generation's mythical Pokemon is a cherry on top (and no, I don't count the Diancite gift in X and Y or the Prison Bottle dialogue in ORAS). SV were good games that were only really held back because they didn't have enough time to actually optimize the games to run smoothly.
