That’s perdy neat an to see that it worked is even neater . I never would have guessed that doing that would speed up a saw but then again I’m not very mechanically inclined . Great video Dick

Hi Phil. I ran the saw all afternoon and it just got better. It’s not running any faster in terms of rpm’s, but it has more “grunt” and doesn’t bog down. I was pleasantly surprised!

Interesting Dick, first time I watched a muffler mod. If it keeps the saw cooler it should last longer and a little more speed will never hurt. 👍Talk later. Terry

Dick I’ve been seeing a lot about both the muffler mods and boring out the cylinder to make the saw run cooler. I’m still on the fence about doing any mods until my warranty expires on saws I’m cutting and bucking with. Thanks for sharing.👍TCT

    Great video
They make it harder and tricky on the 550xp to modify not like the STIHL saws barkbox and eagan straight shot muffler available just bolt on.
I like the idea of modifying the muffler saw will run cooler and save cooking your saw I’m not too concerned about the performance .
I will do the same with my 550xp mark 2 once the warranty expires.

Stihl’s 50cc pro saw muffler isn’t easy to mod either! You have to get creative. Doesn’t have a removable cover like the bigger saws. Screw warranty, it’s just a chainsaw haha! I cut into my $900 261cm after a month at most. Happy cuttting fellas. 🍻

How's it been OGF? You could tell in the after mod clips the saw was pulling better. The open muffler will help move the heat out the cylinder too... You should get your 572 ported. I got mine done last summer and holy smokes that saw rips! I also take mine to the dealer every fall to make sure I'm running the latest firmware...

I think opening your deflecter would've given you another 10% it was pretty much push down over the exhaust port. If it's the same exhaust as my 565, the Spark arrestor (which I have removed) only covers the exhaust which is only a very small area . quite a ridiculous design and by removing the mesh gives you a larger opening. We don't have those nutty regulations in our country.
