Lyrics:
’Neath a crowd of mongrel trees
I pulled that bothersome thread
Got down on my knees
Grabbed my pen and bowed my head
Tried to summon all that my heart finds true
And send it in my letter to you
Things I found out through hard times and good
I wrote ’em all out in ink and blood
Dug deep in my soul and signed my name true
And sent it in my letter to you
In my letter to you
I took all my fears and doubts
In my letter to you
All the hard things I found out
In my letter to you
All that I’ve found true
And I sent it in my letter to you
I took all the sunshine and rain
All my happiness and all my pain
The dark evening stars
And the morning sky of blue
And I sent it in my letter to you
And I sent it in my letter to you
In my letter to you
I took all my fears and doubts
In my letter to you
All the hard things that I found out
In my letter to you
All that I found true
And I sent it in my letter to you
I sent it in my letter to you

Jesus. This feels like The Rising. He always comes through. Peace.
Yes,I'm also getting a lucky town era vibe off it.
I don't understand why you use the name of Jesus our lord and savior. But yes it's a great song.
I unfortunately got a Working on a Dream vibe. Although the repetitive lyrics would not seem out of place as a B-side to Dream Baby Dream. I always look forward to a new Springsteen release but this doesn't have me hooked like the first single off The Rising or Magic. I wait in anticipation to hear the full album.
J adore comme toujours . Des hawi ich gern . Elsass frei
Mark B - I agree. This is pedestrian stuff.
I do not think it's unreasonable to say that the impact Bruce Springsteen has had on American music is immeasurable.
He even resonates here in New Zealand.
I don't think it's unreasonable to say the impact Bruce Springsteen has had on humanity, globally, is immeasurable.
He's our great American rock-and-roll troubador.
Duh!
Now America needs this human touch .
not just America needs it.Europe needs it too.A 55 man from Hungary
Bruce makes every day the best day😘
Once there was a King, a Queen and even a Prince. Now only the Boss Remains.
Rock on Maestro, we owe you a great deal.

Funny, after all these years, this song made me realize, that all Mr.Springsteens songs are letters to someone. They are letters and short stories that I love to listen to.
Yes ,something I only recently realised too .Boy what a story writer
Where have you been ? A Monastery ? JESUS JOHNNY
Beautiful way to put it.
The Boss still full of strength.... great sound.
I'd be honored if some Springsteen fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performance of DANCING IN THE DARK in tribute to the United States of America and our next president, Joe Biden. Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.

...that Bruce still write songs on a piece of paper instead of a laptop or tablet is encouraging for us who grew up with his songs.
i began listening to Bruce in about 1982, I lived in Canada, still listening !!
As someone who prefers to write lyrics on paper instead of a laptop , myself, I cant help but wonder why in the hell you find encouragement in the fact that he writes on paper.
@@nonavandamme98 so interesting
Am I the only one who stopped singing along.. Everytime I hear a Springsteen song?
It doesn't matter where he writes. What matters is what he writes. Write on boss. Sign on, we are hearing.
Bruce said once : " i can't imagine my life without music, it's like the air that i breathe" ...and me i can't imagine my life without listening to him
Sounds like you need to get out more LOL
I too cannot imagine life without Bruce's music. I have loved this man's words and music since 1974, his music is the soundtrack to my life.
Life is Bruce's music
Great!!!
You can always rely on Springsteen to lift your spirits when needed

As my mom was dying we sang this song to each other. She found it so powerful she sent it to everyone she knew. She passed March 1st 2022, but hearing this song brings me back to her singing this holding my hand. Such a gorgeous song.
Thank you for telling us great thing.
To you...and your Mom.....rock on.
Why do people always make up fake stories about themselves and songs?? " I held my mother's hand while she was dying and we both sang this song " plz stop. It's corny.
@@user-sc1if9hi9x There is nothing corny or made up about my memories of my mom. I’m sorry you think the way you do and feel the way you do that you can’t imagine a real moment shared between a mother and child. I love this song and I love the memories of my mom that it invokes. I wish you well and hope you have or find love and happiness.

It has been my great pleasure to have the Boss to listen to since I was in my twenties. I am now 70. I have a great memory of a kiss in the Fox in Atlanta. The lighting tech took me to the stage.

Hell, it was a bad day today. Struggling with my mental health after my Mum died of dementia last year. Still fighting her care home. Covid. A cr'p family who could care less about me or her. And National Suicide Prevention Day. Was thinking about making that ironic. And then Bruce sends me a letter. To me. To everyone. Thanks, Boss. x
Hang in there. My mom is going in to hospice today after many years with dementia. I'm going to have to miss my depression support group later, but Bruce and the band just lifted my spirits!
Dealt with a very similar situation. All the best to you.
Hang in. Talk to someone who loves you. That's all we need. I know.
You made me cry. Hope everything gets better for you. I hug you! Keep the faith!
Keep going and stay. Wishing you healing and endless love
Roy’s piano just puts its arms around you like a long lost friend. Those 3 guitars, stevie, nils, bruce just complement everything. Max just solid. Gary’s bass...I can hear Danny in there. It’s crying out for Clarence and his sax.
This is brilliant, comforting and emotional. Thank you Bruce
Just the true words right there.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I bet every Boss fan have waited for something new from Bruce Springsteen and the E-street band.
Now we have a taste of what is arriving in october.
Perhaps next year the touring will arrive again, with a early wake-up call for the ticket sale.

I've been a fervent fan since I was 13, that's over 40 years listening intently to every word. He has never let me down because his words come from a place of honesty and truth. I am proud of my young self for recognizing the heart of this artist, he has added so much to my life and helped me thru all the roughest patches. I can't watch this without being overwhelmed with joy at seeing all these guys who have been a part of my life all these years. And I always knew Bruce was creating these letters for us, it's so great to have him acknowledge it! ❤
That's so sweet of you I really appreciate the love and support I get from you fans
Lovely comment Denise, I think good music deep music and stories of life and hardships of life, are how music is so so important, and how it heals and makes you feel good or understand something that has passed you by, that you didn't understand, all of a sudden the understanding is right there in the emotion produced by the song the tune the words and how its delivered.. The greatest gift on earth is good music.
Brilliant words Denise, you can tell you have been a truly emotional fan of Bruce , Patty & the Fabulous E StreetBand. X
In case you don't know... This is growing old with grace, class, & humility.
I agree.. aging gracefully too.. no drugs

True, but is having his struggles, just like the rest of us. Music heals.
I’m almost 60. My first Bruce album was The River. Letter To You brings back my enthusiasm for Bruce and The ESB!
Whenever the world needs him, he is ready. Bruce you saved my life. On many occasions. We love you.
I totally agree with you ! It's the same for me 👍😉

Hey
My brother Eamon sent this to me. He has some developmental disabilities and is down on much in life but never Bruce. Not since we heard him first over 40 yrs ago when he was 12. I believe that Bruce holds him up. Gives his life meaning which is for the most part devoid of it. I thank Bruce for never giving up on himself or his fans. For bringing meaning to my Brothers life and giving him one certainty in his life. That there will be another sing, another album, another "reason to believe" Ibam sure that there are plenty of Eamon's in the world who may not understand the lyrics with much depth but feel the music and passion and love that this man brings to them. He is a Bruce savant and I swear he knows when Bruce is about to drop a new song before Brucr does and he'll tell you so. God bless all those who have disabilities who have been touched by their hero and our Bruce Soringsteen. The greatest connector of them all.
@Gavin M. A “ Bruce savant” . Like that description. 🙂 Your brother sounds like an interesting person of good taste, if he intuitively tapped into a great musician like BS. 👍🏻

I'm in my late 20s and I've always heard of Bruce Springsteen but never really cared to listen to him until now, since yesterday I've been on a listening streak starting from his old stuff working my way up to his new/current stuff, I'm amazed at the longevity that this guy has had in music from before I was even born up until now, I'm a new fan of this legend

Hello Olivia
Oui c'est impressionnant la forme qu'à The Boss 😊❤
If it wasn't for Mr Springsteen, I never would've had a connection to my dad. I never would've found a way to bond with him, and never would've had as many laughs with him. My dad and I listened to this while watching football last night... and although I didn't cry at the time, I found myself coming back to the song tonight and crying. Crying because of the lyrics. Knowing that the artist my dad listens to easily the most, became the artist I listened to the most, and then for us to listen to this together made all those childhood and current memories come flooding back.
Thank you Bruce, for allowing me to really get to know my father, and continue enjoying the time I have with him.
Lovely post. I lost my dad this year and music was the main connection we had. He was a petrol head, I wasn't. I loved sport, he didn't. But we always bonded over music and had some great times going to gigs and listening to music together. Enjoy it while you can cos it hurts like hell once that times gone

Dear Bruce,
I am a Polish and English teacher from Poland. I have been listening to your music since the very beginning.
Furthermore, I believe we are almost the same age.
I used to buy every new album which was released starting from Born in the U.S.A.in 1984.
Your music was always with me, with my rising kids, in my home.
I have watched most of your concerts several times. I have been listening to and singing your songs over and over.
My students have been practicing English singing and telling stories based on your lyrics.
I have watched your interviews and have been very proud of your friendship with president's Obama family.
Your music has helped me to through my life. Thank you very much for that.
My latest favorite is 'Letter To You,' the best-sounding album you have made since the 1980s.
I'll See You In My Dreams became the song I can't stop listening to.
I wish you and your family good health and happiness.

Bless you, friend. Your house, like mine. Sundays my kids got , introduced to Springsteen, and Johnny Cash. Johnny, before Church, maybe 2 songs, getting ready.
Come home and I'm anxious, to listen, as the pastor's words, manifest in song ! Not sure how things are politically, in Poland, but I can say, you will find, much in his music.. to carry you, or, navigate you thru up's and down's. Friends in Poland. Glad to have you aboard. Amen sing it Bruce love it beautiful
Reading through the comments, like so many others, I hadn't realized how much I needed this. Surprised also by the fact that I can even still feel what this song triggers. There are all different types of music, all different types of songwriters, but only Bruce Springsteen could bring this particular thing into the world. And yeah, the band, I think the spirit of Danny and Clarence were smiling in on this. Listening, got chills, and started crying, surprised by that too, like rocks skipping, leaving images of people lost over the years, the touchstone of the different songs over the years, stages of life, and yet it all comes to life again, that same feeling as seeing the band, 1975, Born to Run tour in Portland. Springsteen, an American living treasure, some music just stands somewhere outside of time, and death.
This right here, is it!

@Bob Macca 100 easily, Springsteen is a fantastic performer on stage, but his creativity pretty much stopped with The Rising. I have been a die hard fan like others here for years before realising the truth. He is the first admitting he is just a great imitator of others, probably the best in the world. Just go look at Jimmy Durante's mimic when he's on stage or Thin Lizzy's music.

To me, Bruce is and always will be the white boss of rock! But the African-American boss from the 60's was Jimi Hendrix and the African-Russian-American boss of Rock is the sexy, beautiful, talented (who plays most of the instruments while recording his albums : bass, keyboards, drums and guitars) and also too much underrated Lenny Kravitz!
And that's the power of music right there my friend. Great songs and great artists cross all divides and eschew all prejudices. Music speaks to us in these times of troubles like no politician ever can.
@@lucrese1 Thanks. I'll research his music. I know Jimi's photo when I see it but I don't know any of his music. I know who Lenny is because of his mom, Foxy Rokker, the actress. But I only know about "American Woman". Which is great track.
It's not cultural appropriation to like music made by someone with a different skin color.
Yesl
, the boss of the E-street band, THE reason why he's called the boss.
Nothing to do with his music. Fans took over once.
Ein Fan von unserem lieben Freund Bruce ist ein guter, gefühlvoller Mensch. ❤️
Ein Liebesbrief für alle springsteenfans 😊
Like a good boss he always knows when the folks need something. I'll always love him.
Almost my whole life Bruce was my companion, his music gave comfort, joy, relief, hapiness all the emotions you can have. And still he wil be the light in these dark times.
Well said
I agree with you

So true Rudy!
so it is
Wow, they nailed it on this album.. Like they put all the best Bruce puzzle pieces together.
Goddammn, I've got it, the record. The letter Bruce sent straight to Poland, to Wrocław, to me. Went for it after my job, it was freezing then. Bought it. Opened sitting in the tram. (not too much pictures of u inside, Brucie dear) hurried back home, turned it on & can't stop listening to this til now! - what a rocking, outstanding, greeeat, marvelous thing!!!:)
"And I sent it in my letter... to you."
"Tonight the Western Stars are shining bright... again."
👍❤️🤘
You're right. Same melody there.
Very similar sadly
Bruce has never been shy about borrowing from himself or others. If it works, why not?
Meet me in the land of hopes and dreams.
Blood Brothers meeting in the Land of Hope and Dreams under the Western Stars - pure Springsteen! I like it.
The best way to start a day! The sound and the visuals!!! It's like coming home,,,
Yes!!! Coming home, love this, and it's truly how we feel. :)
This exactly! Coming home. That's the feeling.
🛑. Get a job lady
Spot on
Thank's so much for this long road - Forever gratefull
I like music from Bruce Springsteen, forever. The great boss.
This song will always be special to me. First Bruce song I knew about before my parents did!! 😂😂
If Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band could make it in 2020, then we can make it. Thankyou Boss.
Yeap that's right take day by if you wake up.in the morning you.can make.it any day
I got to see them 2 years back in County Cork Ireland, and as a musician even when playin in a stadium they were one of the tighest rock'n'roll 'dive bar' bands i've ever heard..i dont reckon with clarence and federici gone there wont be a lot more tours..(altho clarences nephew is just as good with the sax)
I saw him and the E Street Band here in Brazil in 2013, I'll never ever forget. Life changing experience, its like your whole life passes through your eyes and you see that guy restless, then he comes to the pit, hugs me, hugs everybody and then i could see THAT Fender Telecaster, i could see so close, that guitar, that rusty wood, covered in sweat, and then the whole band does something that I'll never forget; they look at us in the audience smiling and is not a gimmick, its pretty sincere and you can feel the warmth, and then you feel so happy, you leave the place thinking about redefining your life with the parameters of quality and energy and humanity that you just saw. That was what seeing Bruce and E St Band for the first time made for me, i leave the concert wanting to be a better person
@@1380Bruno Yeah man it's 'real' for want of a better term. You can't fake a love for rock'n'roll like that, nor a connection to the crowds. 'All i got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth' people sometime overcook rock'n'roll and i find a lot of the magic gets lost cos your seeking perfection, whilst the muse is seeking you but she's sick of talking to him bout chord progressions! Just do it! Lol
When i first started the guitar the first song i played was one i wrote myself. I quickly figured out that no-one cud tell me i'm playin my own tunes right! Lol (and i still live by that motto)
Absolutely man, its our own expression, like Bruce wrote in the book, its the noise and the words that express your very soul, its real, you make a connection, you play that chord, you ser someone in the audience who reacts to that sound, to that lyric, its magic. Hope with ALL my strenghts that we can see him and the band one last time....
I am almost 50 yo and listening to the boss poetry in this land .
I am ten years older than you and just said a prayer for you that your next ten years be blessed in this world. My last ten feel like they’ve aged me with warped speed & time into another dimension, especially this past year. Unfortunately 2020 turned into a year of everyone joining me in the twilight zone I suppose. Had a birthday a couple weeks ago which was appreciated and celebrated differently than any before. Still thanking God for allowing me to stay here, too long to explain here, and looking forward to 2021 as everyone else I’m sure. God bless you as we keep on keeping on our journey back to Him I believe, hoping we will see each other when we get there. Still not sure how that all works lol! Came too close for comfort this year so that’s none of my business ;) All I need to know is God will be there, as eternal life with no more pain will be also. Looking forward to eyes that see with no glasses, as mine are so worn out they are bad with my glasses and blind without. Getting too chatty, so I’ll say thank you for letting me know I’m not alone haha! Felt it only proper to let you know you are still young and you may want to armor up LoL. The Boss has some beautiful music with very deep lyrics. It’s all good, yet some has different meanings in youth than a relisten as an adult has been my experience enjoying his talented gifts. I’m grateful that he shares. Goodnight my friend. :)
A dedicate this song to my best friend in life, Cathrine ❤️❤️❤️
For a Man who has sang his heart out his whole life, gave everything he had. I'm greatful he is still sharing his gift. To be a musician, its a hard life, no privacy, long lonely nights on empty roads a hard travel. Until you have walked in their shoes...you have no clue. Its Gods job to judge a life, not ours as fans. Be greatful for whats still here and now, today is a miracle..tomorrow is not promised.
"To be a musician, it's a hard life."..........You're joking, right?.........Bruce has been a multimillionaire many times over for the last 40 years or so.......and good on him for that.......but he's had an extremely privileged life. Yes fame can be a bitch, but that's the price you pay to get to do whatever you want and lead a life that 99.9 % of most people can only dream of.
He's anti American and you don't care? Well I have land in saudia Arabia for sale.
@@mikehorrigan6106 WTF you talking about- he's not anti American in any way at all
@@mikehorrigan6106 Imagine being stuck with a brain this broken.
I couldn't have said it better!
What a beautiful song in such a bad time.
The boss always manages to put the right words into music.
It is no coincidence that when times are bad, people seek refuge in music.
This music, his music, has been with me since my youth and I hear it over and over again.
ever since the magic rat drove his sleek machine over the jersey state line
Beautiful words
You're the best !😘 Can wait to see you again in Rome ...
@Camelia You all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
Listening to Bruce makes and helps my problems less stressful 😔
My dad died on Friday.... The lyrics here hit me like a freight train. All the things I should have said to himbefore he went. Miss you dad and thanks Bruce for this!
Sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing.
My mum died at march in 1992 ... 3 days after my 18th birthday. Some day you'll still carry the questions but you'll know that the answer's not important, because your feeling is that the answers reached your dad as my mum in their soul ... that's the way I learned to handle it.
I just realized it has been 40 years since I became a Bruce Springsteen fan. (I was fifteen. Where did the time go?) If I had a single wish in this world it would that Bruce and the E Street Band play live again next summer-maybe outdoors somewhere-and I can take my teenage son with me. He has never seen him live and I would so love for him to experience the sheer joy and energy of one of Bruce’s concerts. (I discovered my son has a bunch of Bruce’s music on his playlist but never told me, didn’t want to admit that his musical taste was influenced by his mother, I guess!)
Laurie we have a lot in common. I was 13 when I heard Hungry Heart and I immediately KNEW. I brought my son Joshua Bruce to a show many moons ago, that converted him over to our side.
Bruce continually impresses me, surprises and thrills me. My admiration for him grows exponentially over time. I told my son Joshua Bruce that if I were to name him today, I would just go for it and name him Bruce Bruce ;)
Same here!
Similar - albeit it more embarrassing - story here.
My sister gave me "The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" for Christmas in 1975. Doubting her older, "square" taste, I put it aside with a "Gee, thanks". She was home again in the summer of '76, and I said, "Hey, what's that?" about the music she had on.
"So - you haven't opened your Christmas present yet?", she asked slyly.
I was 15 then (she'd have been 17 at Christmas, 18 by summer) - and while I liked all the songs, the one that really wowed me was "4th of July, Asbury Park" (aka "Sandy").
A bit embarrassing to be caught not having tried it - but the compensation (even if months later) was discovering I already *had* an album I loved !
I'll turn 60 this year (knock wood), and that "age-difference" between my sister & I has long vanished. I have treasured (and been uplifted by) Mr Springsteen through all the years since.
"Sandy" still has a special place in my heart (not least since once far ago, "that waitress I was seeing lost her desire for me").
BTW, apologies if it dated me to say "album" (hell, I can remember actually "dialing" a phone!) - but there was a time I had "E Street Shuffle" on LP (thanks, sis), cassette & CD, all at the same time.
Cheers to you, Ms Gough - and best wishes to your son.
Never forget, Laurie... the aurora is rising behind us.
..I am with you my lady.....
He has good taste!
I loves the beautiful words in the song, it touch my heard, u have beautiful voice, very warm person, I 'll always play it,thanks.💙💙💙
Sei grande Bruce💪💪🔥🔥🔥
Evertime that I hear a new Springsteen song, I think of all the great bands that just stop making new music. Sure they tour and rehash their old material, but they stop making new music. Bruce is amazing. He just keeps going and going, adding to his already enormous catalog of songs. That's just one the things that make him perhaps the greatest storyteller, entertainer, and rock and roller of all time.
It's therapeutic for Bruce to write about what's in his head and turn it into beautiful songs.
Clarence is in his dreams regularly, so Bruce wrote two songs about death, to the ppl whom aren't here anymore.
Then, it's out of his head. I do the same, write it off of me. Only I can't make a song out of it. It helps. That's why all of Bruce's songs are touching our hearts, it comes straight from his heart and it's something we all feel deep inside.
Bruce Springsteen writes from the heart. He is the best
No, he's the worst.
Really?
Bruce you are still so emotemotional! Great!
Please come in Japan🇯🇵
