    Would anyone be so kind as to sum up Nagel's position on free will for me? Please? I found this talk almost impossible to sit through.

    I'm listening now and will probably add more comments.
    So far, yes to the point there is a difference between.
    1) Causal determinism
    and
    2) Predictive determinism
    Also yes the variables could be anything. As long as there is only
    one possible future given the initial state of the variables, that's causal determinism.
