Congratulations Dizzy and Duncan 🎉 on your massive PB. Very well ran 🎉 🎉 The runaway husky belong to me (Crazy Chinese Woman before the start)! Odin managed to reverse from his harness and slipped his shoulders straps over his head!! Midway through your excellent footage, he is spotted emerging from the forest (away from the proper route) and followed your group where he was eventually grabbed by my husband! I met up with them, reharnessed Odin and finished the race. It was lovely meeting you and Dizzy and apologies for embarrassing you with my enthusiasm at the start line. Ty for the excellent channel 👍💪🙏
Thanks so much! You made my day by saying hello, it’s the first time that has happened at a race! My wife asked how it went and first thing I said was “someone came up and said they watch the RUclips videos!” No mention of the PB 😂 Haha! Cheeky Odin! He definitely knew what he was doing I reckon 😆 Amazing that you managed to finish the race still! You should take Odin’s time for the first 2km - he definitely did it in about 4 mins 🤣🤣 Thanks so much for your support of the channel and videos. I hope to see you at another race sometime soon 🖤🤍🖤🤍
Thanks! It was awesome wasn’t it. What a great course (even if it was minus whatever!) How did you do? We are desperate to come back and do the next one but awkwardly it’s my dads 70th birthday on the same day, and he’s had it booked in since 1953 😬… negotiations have been opened though 😂
I’m throughly impressed by your PB I used to Canicross with my Chihuahua sadly when he passed away my world crashed down I now have a Pug Cross Jack Russel who enjoys exercise
Thank you very much! Oh wow! I love that canicross really can be for everyone and all dogs… not just the big boys with go faster spots 😆 wishing you and your dog all the best, thanks for watching and commenting on the video, hope you enjoy seeing our canicross journey 🖤🤍
@@thatspottydogruns Thank you for that lovely comment it really means a lot my pup is only 6 months old so far to young the only issue I have is getting the correct Harness because he doesn’t fit the freemotion like my jack Russel and chihuahua did I’m just wondering which harness you recommend he is 8kgs now
@@deniseshephard3347 I wonder if a short style harness like a Zero DC short would fit better than a long one like the Freemotion. Maybe? It seems a popular choice for smaller breeds at our canicross club. My advice would be to get in touch with a specialist (snow paw store in the Uk are AMAZING!) and they’ll either be able to give you great advice or even do a fitting if you find one near you. Another top tip is to Keep an eye on the specialist retailer’s socials as they are all often on the road at dog related events and might be able to do a fitting for you somewhere closer to home!
Thank you, she absolutely loves it ❤ Don’t be fooled by those little legs we’re both in training for our 1st half marathon and she’s definitely coping better than me 😂
@@sarah-jaynecooper7085 ah cool! I’m sure you’ll smash it. Half-marathon with a dog can be as simple as taking them on your long run each week to build up their mileage. I documented a lot of the things we did for our training on here, but we had the added complication that Dizzy was going to run it faster (and pull me!) than I could ever on my own, so I really had to train hard for it. We are desperate to do the next one but it coincides with my dad’s 70th 😬 some serious negotiation skill needed I think 🤔
Congrats on your PB! Amazing pace! I’m a newbie and I was wondering how much faster did your pace increase by running in the canicross harness? If you were to run that exact same course but without Dizzy, what would you estimate your time would be?
Thanks! And thanks for watching 🖤🤍 we’ve actually since run this course again this year and ran 18:07! I run 5000m on a track in ~18:50-19:00, so teaming up with Dizzy takes a minute to maybe 90 seconds off my time on cross country courses like this. BUT… we are a slight anomaly with it being so close. Some of the men with bigger, faster dogs probably have around 90 seconds - 2 minutes knocked off… and the lighter Women CAN have up to 5 minutes knocked off their time by a powerful well trained racing dog! What type of dog are you running with?
@@thatspottydogruns Thanks for the breakdown, it is greatly appreciated. I am based in Canada and Canicross is just starting to gain traction here so videos like yours are a great help to learning about this sport. I've always ran with a dog but I didn't know they could be run like this. Now that I saw Canicross, I am excited to learn as much as I can!! I'm glad to learn what is realistic to expect by having your dog pull you. Your times are so fast (very impressive BTW) but I'm glad to know that it shaves off only 90-120 seconds. It gives me a more realistic as what to expect once my 50lb Coonhound is fully trained. She is about the size of your handsome Dalmation. That is crazy to learn that it can shave almost 5 mins off a smaller woman's times though. I'll have to get my dog hooked up to my wife once she's more trained :) Thanks so much for making these videos! I loved watching you and your dog during a race. Its a very unique and informative perspective And congrats on your even faster times!! Super impressive, to say the least!! Keep up the amazing work!!
Hello~ I live in South Korea with my dog 'Hak' (German Shepherd Dog). I am very interested in Canincross, but unfortunately there is no competition in Korea yet. So, I really enjoy watching this video. I wish you a good video in the future. Was this video shot with a GoPro?
Ah amazing! You definitely don’t need races to get into it. In fact in the UK, I definitely think more people canicross casually than compete. Glad you like the video. We’ve still got plenty of races left this season, so more race videos on the way! Yes I use a GoPro Hero 9 Black, for races like this I use it on a head mount. It’s a great piece of kit, I ran it continuously for over 30 mins at -3 degrees on this day and had absolutely no issues! Wishing you and Hak happy canicrossing 🖤🤍
Great question! I’m certainly no expert on this and everyone has their own way of feeding highly active dogs. Generally I won’t actually feed Dizzy before a run/race. Mostly because they are all early starts, so to avoid potential bloat issues it would mean having to get up at 5am to feed him! We are also generally racing 5k so neither of us need much “fuelling”. I do give him some pemmikan bar (from a company called Kronch) about 30-90 mins beforehand. It’s like a slow release doggy energy bar so he’s at least got something in his stomach. And we’ll usually “share” a banana too 😂 He’ll then have a quick protein snack and a recovery drink after the race/run and eat when we get home usually a few hours later.
