I grew up in a small town like in the late 50's early 60's so these clips bring back very fond memories. My dad owned the drug store on main street which was a "morning before going to work" meeting place for the good old boys who mostly had grown up together. When my dad passed away the services were held in a large church which was filled to the max both inside and out. An amazing time to have grown up.
That love the poor woman was trying to show a give to Carl , is worth more gold. There is not a single thing a man can ever receive from another is a true warm loving heart from another as Carl here receives from Mylinda. She has nothing to give but her self and her heart .. And wether you're a Carl , or a Brad Pitt or whomever , if you have the opportunity to receive this love and friendship from a Mylinda , don't hesitate to pick it up because there is a wonderful thing about to happen. It's the nuances in the writing that won Thornton an Oscar for screenplay. Karl offering not one but two "common ground" comments (blister sympathy and his thoughts on flowers) to someone just to be nice is a really big deal for him, and makes us like him even more.
This was such a good movie when it came out still is I remember watching it and I couldn't believe it was Billy Bob Thornton he really made a dramatic transformation I'd say go to your local video store and rent the VHS but I don't know where you'd even find it nowadays LOL

Ol’ Bill Cox is played by Rick Dial, a terrific southern character actor who died too soon in 2011 while filming “Bernie,” a Richard Linklater masterpiece. Dial perfectly plays the funeral home director in that film, which is dedicated to his memory.
Sling Blade is the perfect balance of disturbing scenes, dark comedy, and tender little moments like this. It's flawless
A masterpiece.
Absolutely perfect
The world became right when Carl happened upon Bill Cox's outfit.
Perfect
I swear one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a movie is the bit where Karl comes in on Doyle at night randomly holding a hammer

She went on to become a serial killer and spent her final years with Carl at the State Hospital.
I'm surprised they didnt pursue that relationship in this film.

They totally banged in the lawn mower shop. The original script had a five minute sex scene but it was cut during post production due to its length.

Amazingly Sling Blade was filmed in just 24 days in Benton, Arkanas. It cost $1.2 million to make but it made $34.1 million at the box office.
Some low budget movies became classics, Easy Rider filmed for boutique $500,000.
The legendary history of Hollywood movie making has produced only one perfect movie. This one.

Love how a “lawn mower” repair shop has two people that don’t know which way to push one.

Too common in many places. The owner grabs the cheapest workers he can get because the money is in selling new mowers not repairing old ones.
