With all that stress Graham it’s no wonder you have the hot tub! 😁 If you fancy Nightmare Part II I’ll send you my broken 7600. I really can’t decide whether to attempt it now! I’d need whisky in the workshop! 😧 It was a great radio - perfect for trips with my AN LP1 antenna.
I have changed today all of the capacitors, lot of electrolyte, so I had to clean hard. Unluckily nothing changed, not receiving anything on AM and on FM as soon as you power it up it listens ok but then it starts like oscillating and I can hear one carrier all over the band, only the strongest signals override that. Any ideas what might be?
Did you have electrolyte on the board? This can seep through the CIA’s and break the contact. Also it can damage a trace. Some good magnification may help track it down

Hi.. I'm working on the same portable Sony receiver, unfortunately I broke the Rv1 potentiomer for the fine tuning, do you know where I can find one with same specs? Thanks
@@Radiocruncher Ah. I really was surprised when mine 7600 had shown working clock for several minutes without any power source. Just found one recently in storage. It's in working order, barely used, full box set. I wonder if I _have_ to restore it or caps are good.
If it’s the version with SMD electrolytic capacitors in it then yes it will need doing as the early capacitors are know to leak which can damage the board and other components
Hi I am from India .I have the same radio but it dead now .Can you set it right and bringbit back-to-l8fe ? I shall pay for your services plus cost of spares and shipping.
@@Radiocruncher Removed all caps, they were all gone. Through-hole caps from Rubycon are fine, replace anyway ? The unit you worked on had an external antenna socket, my radio is missing the socket. Would be fancy to reequip it, provided one has the right socket from Sony. There are three jumpers on the LCD board, removing the solder bridges will unleash the frequency range, oddly enough they were all engaged on your board. I've read the cap on the LCD board determines the time the backlight stays on.
Hi. I’ve had this problem recently with 2 Sony radios. One of the AM IF transformers had been damaged by electrolyte leaking out from the old caps. Try them for continuity
@@Radiocruncher all the AM Bands, only FM is working. Thank you for the answer. I Fellow HAM in ma area provides me a calibration transmitter and a propper Freq. Counter next week. maybe it is an alignment Problem ?! Unfortunately, my Oszilloskop only counts two digits....
I doubt it’s alignment. If it’s common to lw/ mw and sw then it’s going to be from D26 onwards. Check T2 for continuity. Check the voltages on Q3 and Q4. Worth checking that C22 is in the right way around. I assume you have the service manual. If you are stuck still after trying that then email me on graham@radiocruncher.com
What the hell did I stumble onto!!? This is great!
Welcome to the madness

Go for it Gavin. I would think the capacitor change would sort 99% of the problems. seems that mine has other ideas
I have 7600 da .It doesn't store frequencies in memory. I wonder if there is a memory battery inside
I don't think there is from memory. There is an SMD electrolytic on the keypad pcb so i suspect that has leaked and will need changing
@@Radiocruncher thank you very much
i brok and loos my sony icf 7600 gr 's power button .
how i can put it on without power button .thanks
The power switch is a tactile switch on the key board. Have you lost the button? If so then you may be able to get someone to 3d print it for you

It could be that you have hidden board damage
I have Sony icf7600d. Display contrast very poor.is it possible to repair?
Yes it will need new capacitors
@Radiocruncher which capacitor should I change

I'll try.thanks
After full recapping no FM reception, just static, AM working great!
Was FM working before you did the capacitors?
No it was just static too
Check the voltages on Q13 which is the FM RF amp. Also check the aerial is making good contact and the antenna socket is not open circuit
Thank you 💐

ICF-7600D has this kind of tunning knob too. Find a broken 7600D.
I have a question - how clock can work without AA batteries in it
The display would be kept going by an electrolytic capacitor for a short time without batteries fitted

My friend, in Rajahstan is a good technician who can repair your radio.
Before 2 days he posted something about old equipment.
I plug in an adapter to my device, the screen turns off, it does not turn on at all. The capacitor was also replaced, what could be the problem?
The power supply is not correct for the radio?
The power supply is Casio 7.5 V. When I looked at the motherboard from the back, I noticed that one Q44 transistor was getting extremely hot.
When I unplug the power supply, the clock works but
Are you sure the polarity is okay?
I mean polarity

Nice work Dorf. You might be lucky enough to find a socket for it. I might have a look at the frequency range if I can get mine working
