    Rob, Lee.....you need to have a "Guitar Olympics" with all of you guys (Rabea , Matt , Pete Lee , Dave ,etc)
    -string change timed
    -pick throw
    -rig setup timed
    -pedal board wiring timed
    -carrying amp and guitar up stairs
    not my idea, but i decided to post it again to see if maybe theres an option for this to be a thing :D

    in a conversation I had with Leo at a 1991 NAMM show. He himself told me that George and Freddy were responsible for all the original guitars "designs" after his original Broadcaster design. He approved and added his touches, but never designed any complete guitars until G&L and even then, most were rehashes of earlier "designs"
    Leo himself stopped me mid sentence because I was talking to him full bore about new concepts in guitar designs and he said "Son, You know I'm an Amp man right?".. it Stopped me cold. He then went on to tell me that "back in those days", he couldn't play guitar or even tune one without a tuner. and really had left all "design issues" to George and Freddy after the first P-bass.. which was mostly George's idea. He also went on to say that from a financial point of view, it was the P-Bass of 1951-2 that "solidified" the Fender Musical Instrument company into the Instrument Market force that is has become.. the sales of P-Basses were 5 to 1 over guitars. The Amp sales were always solid from the very start. but according to Leo himself, if not for the highly profitable P-Bass sales, Fender might have actually Dropped all guitar production. in 1953 ( 1 year prior to the Stratocasters design) So ALL Fender Strat Players owe their Strats to all the 1950s BASS PLAYERS!

      watched the video. I've seen Rob play like this plenty of times. I fail to understand what you're all talking about. It seems people like to fixate on a certain aspect they like or dislike and blow it out of proportion. Rob has always played like this. He just hasn't always done it every single video.
      Oh, and yeah, middle aged middle class white boy blues, feel em in your soul. Not taking a shot at Lee or Rob, just all the people who fawn over the feel and soul they hear in a couple of comfortably middle class guys playing. It makes me giggle like a schoolgirl when I think about it.

    Getting a Telecaster was a real revelation... Suddenly I had a guitar that could not only do my Strat's job, but could also do the job of my old Les Paul too. Nothing feels wrong or out of reach on a Tele. Where my Strat may be too bright and trebley for hard rock, and my Les Paul might be too dark and chunky for spanky clean blues, the Tele can do both with no effort. Love 'em...

    • @iandavis891

      I know exactly what you mean Paranoid Blues Man - I played a Strat for 20 years before getting a Tele. In short, the Tele taught me how to really play guitar and as a result, I am now a better Strat player but still love my Tele to bits.

    • @Red_Robin_Guitars
      @Red_Robin_Guitars 6 лет назад +1

      I’ve gone full circle for the exact same reason, started off with a tele, and thought I was missing out on the les Paul chunkyness, and the Strat spank. Then I figured out how to dial in a sound properly, and now my tele is the 1st one out of the rack, every time.
      Typically the guitar was never the problem!

    My opinion, I've never played a bad G&L. Bought the first one I tried out in 1987. A used Broadcaster. It sounded and played great, with a pair of P-90 like, pickups. A whole new sound than was available at the time from Fender. I've picked up 4 more G&L's, since. Each one of them, (2 ASAT's, and 2 Legacy's), feel perfect in my hand, and have been rock solid during the years since I've had them. I couldn't ask for anything more from a guitar.

    For me the best guitar Fender ever made is the TELECASTER. You can beat it hard and it stays in tune. When you play it, you will always be hearded in a band situation. It fits easily in every kind of music and the most important fact, it looks so damn sexy 😍

    The folks at Andertons sure know how to run a business. I mean, just look how far they've come since the first videos with Rob and Lee. They've totally built an online following and infamy amongst the online guitar community. Major props to everyone involved, it's certainly nice to be able to sit back and listen to some banter and guitar playing!

    A buddy of mine from New York let me borrow his brother's 64 Jaguar back in 1974's for about 2 years. After I adjusted it I realized how wrong I was about the Jag and probably the Jazz Master. By far, the Jaguar was one of the Best Fender Guitars ever made. This happened during my Jeff Beck phase. The Jag Tremolo is far superior to the Strat. Just a great feeling guitar that can sing for days.
    The only Fender guitar that I have now is a Translucent Black Japanese Squier Strat that I've bought used around 85, 86.

    I have exactly that same problem of not being able to find anything that feels quite like a Music Man neck. I became so accustomed to that wide and chunky neck, that I was practically forced into playing extended range stuff to get that same amount of wide and chunky neck.

    I so love my Fender Custom Shop strat and tele! Loved my 1981 Gibson Les Paul "59" Heritage Standard (Gibson's first real attempt to do a reissue Les Paul), but the overall best built electric guitar I've ever owned was an Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Sport. The best neck on the planet. Great DiMarzio splitting humbuckers. Wonderful trem, great locking tuners. I sold that guitar during a time of financial distress. Damn, I miss that guitar! 😞

    Of the three, the G&L has it for the best sound and the best looking body - loving the aged looking scratchplate/pickup covers. The Fender has the best looking headstock shape, and the MusicMan has the best trem, but if I had to take one it'd be the G&L.

    the dorito chip from the 80’s was Leo’s best design. It’s so good that he wasn’t even apart of fender anymore. They just knew that’s exactly what he would have imagined for a new guitar

  • @guitardude1230
    @guitardude1230 6 лет назад

    The thing about the G&L that makes them better than any of the other companies at the price is that all of their hardware and electronics are USA made; the same that comes on their USA guitars. The wood is milled in Indonesia and the body is sent back to California where the guitar is all assembled and set up in factory. Also, all of their USA models (minus a few as of late) are custom order guitars where YOU get to decide your color, neck profile, pickups, and a bunch of other specs. And you get it for around the price of a Fender Standard USA. There have been 2 limited runs of USA models that arent custom, and they go for $999 American, which is STELLAR. I also prefer the 2 point trem system and MFD pickups on the G&L's. Much fuller, warmer, and richer sounding while maintaining that Strat quack. And its a group of like 50 guys who do it all. I have been to their factory in Fullerton, CA and they put so much time and energy into every guitar making sure they are PERFECT!

    From everything I've read, Leo did not want to have "S" and "T" style guitars. His sales people were pushing for Leo to "reissue" strats and teles. Leo finally acquiesced and began working on the designs. The actual Legacy and ASAT (tele style pickups) guitars were not released until after Leo's passing.

    I am old enough and fortunate enough to have some very fine electric guitars, namely an original '72 Strat (owned for 40 years), a modern Strat deluxe, a PRS custom 24 and a lovely Gibson Les Paul standard. Having said that, I also have a G&L tribute S500 exactly like the vintage white one in the video. The only thing I've done to it is have locking tuners added and a pro setup and fret dress. At volume 8 it sounds like a great Strat and as you wind it on to 10 it adds a warmth and bite that I actually prefer. The MFD pickups are, for me at least, Leo's finest. The passive tone controls work brilliantly, much better than either of my Strats and the trem is excellent. Total cost including upgrades, around £570. Go figure, as our American friends would say.

  • @YouCanCallMeXoe

    I feel the best guitar Leo made was probably one of his last, the Comanche. It's literally just taking what made a Strat so good, then beefing it up with noiseless single coils, the fantastic PTB system, great vibrato, locking tuners, and it just looks awesome to boot. I mean, really, who wouldn't love that?

    First, Rory killed it with the editing in this video. Loved it! Second, great video as always. Really enjoy the stuff that is presented on this channel. Finally, I'm going to say the best guitar Leo ever made is the Tele. And that is for the simple fact that it can do anything you need it to. From being plugged into a classic Fender clean amp or a 5150, Tele does it all. Thank you, Andertons! Don't ever stop making these videos.
