3:42 I’m obsessed with how hard Geoff sang that, “…THEN IT’S OVAAAR!!! In a flash…” Geoff’s voice is so beautifully soothing, especially when he’s howling the lyrics. He sounds like a more young, vocally soothing Kermit the Frog. I’m happy that I discovered Thursday during high school :)
The song that change the way i look at music. To be frank, THE reason i still love music and pursue making artistic music as passionate as Thursday's one day.
Besides Rickley's unwavering vision of passionate sincerity, the band its self is the best element. In this song for example, very few times does the whole band play the same thing, every band member has a totally different part that gels together in some magical way.
What really pisses me off these days is that it really takes balls to tell people that Thursday is one of the best bands of this time because people see them as "emo", as in "my girlfriend left me and i complain about trivial things". Thursday is a about being an incitefull, introspectfull band thats music is about subjects ranging from tragic history to racial bigotry. They make "human" music that is about real emotion instead of trying to be cool by exclaiming "i'm a tough devil from hell!"
Most people are ignorant about music so it doesn't surprise me. Geoff Rickly is an amazing lyricist. It sucks people associate emo with all the shitty pop punk bands but the real ones know the good bands like Sunny Day Real Estate or Thursday.
Well if people opened their ears or read thedamn lyric book, u'll realize real fast that this isnt "emo". But it is. Thursday is an emotional band. With True and honest emotion and feeling. I think the things Geoff has seen is his life have been portrayed beautifully though his music. Jet Black New Year for example. Reading the story in the 5 stories falling booklet then listening to the song, its just amazing. And the band just captures the emotion so well.
No joke man, my favorite band of all time. Sadly the last show I saw them at was ruined by a drunk bro screaming, "Cross out the Eyes!!!", over and over again when they were on tour to promote No Devolucion.
There really isnt a way to describe the shear beauty and magic these guys produce. I cant compare thursday to anyone else, or anyone to them. They are Thursday. One of the most unique, and inspirational bands, to me anyways.
Another thing i like about Thursday is that they don't just make great songs, they make great CDs. They always start and end very strong, except for Waiting. With the lyrics, most band's lyrics have a double meaning but with Thursday, most of the time the lyrics have quadruple meanings that can definitely be interpreted any which way. Mathematically, you can eventually figure out the true meaning to the lyrics. I still believe 12:03 is a reference to drug use, heroine to be more specific.
oh yea, the cds they make are solid all the way though, my favorite will always be war all the time, what an awesome record. and whats even more amazing about that is, after watching kill the house lights, is how fast they did that record, almost in a half assed attempt. At least thats how they made it seem when discussing it. I grew up with these guys in NJ and watched em in clubs and turn into what they are now, and man, they were just as greta then as now. They stay true to themselves.
I was pleased with the new split EP they did with envy. The reason Cities was so commercial sounding was because of their record label, Island. They left there and the new songs of KTHL and Split go back to their original sound.
I never thought of it like that, damn label. ACBTLD had a couple great songs (eventhough a bit poppy). Other Side, Sugar, Running and Autumn Leaves were all great songs, but not the kind of Thursday that gets my head bangin' and my brain thinkin'. If you watch that video entitled "Tarbox" you get to hear the guitars in one of the new songs, it sounds so awesome and i can just feel the intensity that they might be bringing forth with this album. I just hope they have more "breakdowns" on this
If Epitaph was able to make something out of Offspring, they should be able to do something with Thursdizzle. What i like most is the fact that (yes, Story Of The Year is nothing like Thursday and are pop-punkish) they commercialized SOTY heavily and yet never asked them to take out any of the screaming. That is what Thursday needs, a label that never asks them to change and is willing to get their name out there with the band's original "vision" in mind.
@stripesthebird Nope, it's not bad at all. They could have compressed the base and put more drive and less distortion on the lead guitar. Btw it's not the sound tech what ever you are referring to. But it's the final sound that gets masted in the studio.
yeh notice thursday has been on so many different labels? Its because they want to be Thursday not a puppet. The new record should be very good and I cant wait for it. and Cities wasnt a bad record by any stretch, but it wasnt their best. They are now labelmates with story of the year at epitah and they let story do what they want so this could be a great thing
I must say, SOTYs last 2 cds blow page avenue away. Again examples of labels letting artists be artisits. Epitaph will definatly promote Thursday's music and allow them to be them. Im sure the new record will be what they want it to be like. which should be awesome
Thats freaking awesome. Tommorrow I'll Be You is such an amazing last song, one of Rickley's best sounding vocals, besides Autumn Leaves Revisited. On the subject of sound change, i hope that they don't get too "dancey" with the new music.
ok looked at this to see who they were since playing Soundwave.. LOL! Look at the emotional youths 'moshing'. Glad I will be well away from the emo stage when these geese take the stage.

They’re criminally underrated
So damn good

His voice is flawless here.
2:11 so much LOL. That is all.

I miss this band so much...

Full Collapse is my favorite album of all time. I've been listening to it daily since it came out.
one of the few times i think the live version is better than the studio release
haha thats me at 2:41 crowd surfing with the big ass sideburns and spiky hair....now I'm bald lol
The lead after that “bridge/ breakdown” is genius
Thursday and Dance Gavin Dance are fucking awesome! Two favorite bands!

Saw these dudes at the 9:30 club during their Full Collapse Tour. Best band live
These guys are incredible live!
I saw them in 2009 when they supported Rise Against, always remember that show :D
Shw thee with rise and circa survive

See you boys soon! 2 weeks from today at Starland!!!
Hell yeah, seeing them with Touche in LA April. Can't wait!
Amazing sound quality. Nice video quality too
I've seen them in concert a few times and have enjoyed the energy, but damn they play this song fast!
@xeatmytoastx
I totally agree.
I listen to a variety of music like Death Metal, Jazz, Rock n Roll, etc.
I think this band and many others are awesome.

I can't believe I had never heard this band before
Went back from a decade ago. 👋😁
excelente majestuoso pro

@TheDrizzle8114
R&B isn't a label, it's a genre...rhythm and blues.
@stripesthebird Nope, it's not bad at all. They could have compressed the base and put more drive and less distortion on the lead guitar. Btw it's not the sound tech what ever you are referring to. But it's the final sound that gets masted in the studio.
Geoff's vox are so obviously pitch corrected in this. He never belted it anywhere near that well live.
or it could have just been a good night for him vocally lol. Its more the lack of breath breaks that confuse me.

@james619 man, this isn't emo. this is post hardcore if anything. Emo is such a stupid name for it.
ok looked at this to see who they were since playing Soundwave.. LOL! Look at the emotional youths 'moshing'. Glad I will be well away from the emo stage when these geese take the stage.
