What if the patient still not have the third molar of each quadrant will they still be numbered the same in the Universal numbering system For ex if the patient have 28 teeth nd have a problem in central incisor of first quadresnt so will that be called as 8th tooth of that jaw or the numbers be changed
Great question!!! If the patient is missing a tooth you skip that number so that each type of tooth has the same number no matter what teeth are missing. Example: if patient is missing the upper right 3rd molar, start the counting at 2 instead of 1 Another example: The upper right central incisor will always be number 8 no matter what. Even if the partner is missing all the other upper right teeth Hope that clears it up for you 💕🦷

I think canada uses FDI, but I am USA based and use the universal tooth numbering system
