  • We've reached the end of May already, and that means its time for the annual Isle of Wight Steam Railways gala over the bank holiday weekend. This year the theme was based around the Ivatt trusts collection of Ivatt locos which have become residents at the quante little railway.
Ivatt tanks 41298 & 41313 were joined by the first tender loco visitor in the Islands history in the form of Ivatt Moguel 46447, owned by the IOWSR but owing to its lack of airbraking equipment is based at the East Somerset Railway. However it was to star for the photographers and public and complete the trio of Ivatts on the Island.
A glorious May summers day was the setting with wall to wall sunshine and blistering heat all day which caused small problems from the word go as you'll see in the video, however created some superb lighing to watch the locos on their duties during what was a fantastic event. Hope you enjoy!

Excellent video mate :-) That was a really good gala event at the IWSR including the first tender locomotive to visit the island and hopefully they may bring the Great Eastern Railway Y14 class to visit in the near future.

Just beautiful! The countryside, and the excellent little locomotives. How interesting as well, a train of six 4-wheel coaches... makes me happy about branch work on my planned layout.

Thank you for a great video! I was virtually spellbound the whole way through! Finally someone makes a video of more than just a few minutes on this often overlooked railway!

These locomotives were actually most generously gifted by the erstwhile Ivatt Trust. The tender locomotive is normally resident at the East Somdrset Railway

Is that the first tender locomotive ever to run on the IOW? Pity the Ivatts did not all come over in 1966.

Did the fireman stamp that lineside fire out all by himself? Those are some effective boots!

They used the slacker pipe to damp it down.

Great video photography. You had the perfect day for it. It would be good if there was a commentary or captions saying where abouts on the line it is, which direction it is going and what the loco is.
