We fail to understand or lack the compassion to understand this man if we are busy trolling him. This isn't a religious debate either. We are ALL ONE PEOPLE. We are Homo sapiens (AKA Human Beings). We differ through evolutionary factors like environmental conditions and personal beliefs like religious choices but we are essentially the same. We live, love, and die together despite whether or not we are capable of accepting one another. Maybe we ALL need to "Take a Minute". I do understand I don't know a "damn damn thing at all". Do you?
"And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all" i myself read this like so: a wise man is sure of nothing basically. he is sure that he is not sure at all. and that's ok. no need to fret over the unknown. as long as you're doing good
I saw him in concert years ago now after he moved to Canada. Never met an artist so humble and down to earth. Complemented him on his performance at the festival, and he just said thank you and shook my hand, surprised after seeing him on stage how soft-spoken he was. Few moments in life get to meet, let alone speak with someone like him, but always remember that and the performance that day. He knew was playing to a crowd of Canadians unfamiliar with Somalia so during the performance he did asides to teach us a little of the language and educate us on the meaning of the songs. A true legend.
Listen to his other songs too, this man is incredible. He get's all his inspiration from his childhood in Somalia. I can't imagine living that life, my best friend from Ethiopia so I have a such a deep connection to Africa and my life struggles could never compare.
slideshowgurl Yeah he really is :) I'm from Somalia never been, but i still feel that emptiness like something is missing.. After all its where my ancestors are from and thanks for the reply.
I like the way he takes old quotes and rehashes them in present vocabulary. The opening line goes back several centuries and there's actually more to it which is enlightening if you read the original. Not heating but just saying what's new is old and what's old is new.

I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
All I can say is the worst is over now
We can serve the hard times, divorce is over now
They try to keep us out, but they doors is open now
My nigga Akon is getting awards for covers now
This is K'naan, and still reppin' the S
Comin' out of Mogadishu and still draped in the mess
And no matter how we strong, homie
It ain't easy coming out of where we from, homie
And that's the reason why, I could never play for me
Tell 'em the truth, is what my dead homies told me
Oh yeah, I take inspiration from the most heinous of situations
Creating medication out my own tribulations
Dear Africa, you helped me write this, by showing me to give is priceless
And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all
And every time I felt the hurt and I felt the givin' gettin' me up off the wall
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
Nothing is perfect man, that's what the world is
All I know is
I'm enjoying today
You know, 'cause it isn't everybody that you get to give
And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all
And every time I felt the hurt and I felt the givin' gettin' me up off the wall
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze

I'm a supporter of the legend who kicked off the 2010 World Cup 🇸🇴
Qurux badnidaa abaayo.
Not sure how this sing has only 7 mil views, it's SO GOOD.
PSJamie stupid people dont like real music like this
Take a minute and acknowledge what you have done in your in life. And be proud of yourself and appreciate what you have.
Do you?
This song is so inspirational in many ways R.I.P.Nelson Mandela Thank you K'naan
All RESPECT from Djibouti !! 2015 t'es le meilleur
this guy is truly an artist, he went from dodging grenades (check out his bio) in Somalia to becoming a famous rapper. much respect my friend.
This hits so hard. We need more music like this
"And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all"
i myself read this like so: a wise man is sure of nothing basically. he is sure that he is not sure at all.
and that's ok. no need to fret over the unknown. as long as you're doing good
Let us rejoice in this knowledge and learn to love our brothers!!!!
This is my favourite song I can’t wait for knaan to come back and show the world he’s the greatest artist
@@kenmax8615 very wholesome comment knaan is a true legend thank you for sharing your experience
@@dennisbergkamp640 is he coming back with more songs?
@@フクンアニマテス maybe on his twitter he retweeted people saying he should come back
Lost touch with trabadour for a couple years and I couldn’t be happier to hear these songs again... Such an amazing inspiration to me.
Can't believe i just found this song right now, i absolutely love it!
I just found this today
Abusive house holds. Due to financial issues...allow you to give your children, especially your daughters, every tool to succeed.
One of my TOP 5 songs of K'naan along with "America", "Until the Lion learns to speak", "Fatima" and "Bang Bang".
I miss knaan , this was such a banger and I love how this was filmed in London
I like the way he takes old quotes and rehashes them in present vocabulary. The opening line goes back several centuries and there's actually more to it which is enlightening if you read the original. Not heating but just saying what's new is old and what's old is new.
K'naan luv & respect our brotherhood from Ethiopia!!
Lyrics:
And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all

How did Mandela get the will to surpass the everyday
When injustice had him caged and trapped in every way
How did Gandhi ever withstand the hunger strikes and all
Didn't do it to gain power or money if I recall
It's to give; I guess I'll pass it on
Mother thinks it'll lift the stress of Babylon
Mother knows, my mother she suffered blows
I don't know how we survived such violent episodes
I was so worried, and hurt to see you bleed
But as soon as you came out the hospital you gave me sweets
Yeah, they try to take you from me
But you still only gave 'em some prayers and sympathy
Dear mama, you helped me write this, by showing me to give is priceless
And any man who knows a thing knows, he knows not a damn, damn thing at all
And every time I felt the hurt and I felt the givin' gettin' me up off the wall

So underrated. Chills every time. This song is a masterpiece.
❤
I remember when I went to his concert at Malkin bowl in Vancouver, fall of 2009 I think. It was raining so much but every single song he played the small crowd off maybe 400 people , Sang every song along with him. It was amazing to be at for his release of the album troubadour.

It's year 2022 I belong to new generation , I was raised in this world with too much sexual harassment, racism, decriminalization I thought this is the life i could live through but after listening this masterpiece I realized how literally ironic the world is.

omg i just can't stop listening this song. ..k'naan we love u
Am amazed ..wow....24th of October, 2019. And I still love this song
am I the only one who thinks he's one of the few real artists now? talking about killing and doing drugs is wack asf, him, kendrick, j cole, and eminem are my favorites, idc what people say
THIS is a real artist, he should be much more known
there are others, they just don't get more than a fraction of the love they deserve. check out god damn by spose.
+Wesley Otero true he deserves more recognition
Kdot has made a living talking bout his experiences with violence and drug/alcohol abuse. Eminem spent a decade addicted to drugs and multiple times threatened to kill his baby mom but sure drugs and killing are wack asf...
but em is a real artist. maybe not every song but he's a really good lyricist
Holy fuck it's been 5 years ... Dude I lost this song for a long time. Randomly came across it again , memories
same!!
