  • "Nothing", performed by Rayna Gellert & Kristin Andreassen (www.raynagellert.com), (kristinandreassen.com) at the Institute of Musical Traditions (www.imtfolk.org), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA on March 4, 2013.
Rayna Gellert grew up in a musical family, and has spent most of her life immersed in the sounds of rural stringband music, heartfelt gospel songs, and old ballads. After honing her fiddle skills playing at jam sessions and square dances, Rayna fell into a life of traveling and performing. Her fiddle albums are widely celebrated in the old-time music community, and she has recorded with a host of musicians in a variety of styles including Robyn Hitchcock, Tyler Ramsey, Sara Watkins, Loudon Wainwright III, John Paul Jones, and Abigail Washburn.
Kristin Andreassen is an award-winning songwriter and composer of music for both children & adults. She's toured three continents as a member of the celebrated old time stringband Uncle Earl, the folk noir trio Sometymes Why, and as a clogger & educator with the Appalachian traditional dance group Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble.
Kristin's debut solo album Kiss Me Hello features the single Crayola Doesn't Make a Color for Your Eyes, which won the John Lennon Song Contest Grand Prize for Children's music, has been used in weddings, choir recitals, marching band performances, and topped the charts on Sirius Satellite Radio's Kidss Place Live. Kristin has recorded with some of music's all-time great producers: Mark Schatz (Nickel Creek, Tony Rice Unit), Dirk Powell (Cold Mountain, Balfa Toujours) and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin.

I can't describe how stunningly, achingly beautiful this song is. I'm so glad I happened upon it, just at the right time; it's genuinely kept me going through some difficult times.

Oh My Goodness! There are moments in a music fan's life when he looks back at some major chance discovery and just feels blessed that s/he was there at the right time and place. This song came on my local public radio station (KALW in San Francisco rocks!) a few days ago and I've been haunted ever since. It immediately grabbed my attention and touched me in a very special way. Thank You Rayna Gellert for something this truly exquisite! Can't wait to hear the whole CD (already in da mail baby!).
