Wow. That's such a moving rendition. So deeply beautiful in a time when so many folks seem to feel compelled to play old-time tunes at breakneck speed.
Looking at the year we've all had I think there's fair case for taking on the hardship that is inevitable from branching into parallel society and living a life closer to the freedom the big man had planned for us. Two acoustic instrument and genuine souls singing has tears welling up in my eyes, there's virtually nothing in the music of the machine does that for me. Wishing all brothers and sisters in the rockies peace and freedom all the way from the Scottish Highlands.
These artists are from Michigan, so they're midwestern. If you like music like this come to Minnesota, mostly uptown Minnesota cafes. Appalachian music is much faster and has more strings.
Performing in the UP of Michigan. The trees and ferns are familiar. Lovely part of Michigan, maybe more like Appalachia. Got wolves. Moose, Mines, Pasties and a few mountains. A lot of waterfalls and Lakes Superior and Michigan. The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island will take you back into the 1800s and you feel very special. This music is perfect for the beauty of the land. Good work.
Pardon my ignorance, but this sounds like a tune the artist at the time years ago (I believe, Doc Watson) called Hick's lament, about a circuit riding preacher (Rev Hicks), who, while out on his circuit of meetings, got caught in a deadly winter storm AND became sick nigh unto death. Then he wrote the song to his wife, believing they would likely not meet again, this side of heaven. But he did survive & got back home. Any thoughts you may have are most gratefully received. God's blessings... - bro Paul -
Somehow I went from my office being filled with the magnificent sounds of screaming metal - big guitars, drums, guttural vocals and piercing solos, to this. What a pleasure this was. This is the soul of American culture right here. Just beautiful.
This beauteous melody resonates with the strings of the heart. A heart having been parted wide open with the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean. The pining lyrical ballad of the lover to their mate that they are ne'er to see again. A haunting verse; the beauty in the pain. So well done you two, I look forward to seeing you live in the near future.
God. So beautiful you brought tears to my eyes. I came on RUclips looking for other versions to supplement Brad Leftwich's round peak banjo tuition. I was purring at the fiddle intonation and gorgeous slow double stops, and then you starting singing... and then you both started singing. Wow. Wow. Thank you so much, this feels like finding a piece of treasure.
This is how I am going to play the fiddle just speechless at how good that sounds. Great guitar picker I know I been playing for 22 years. Love this group.
This is one of the outstanding performances shared by truly talented folks. The symetry of the lead voice coupled with the violin....accompanied by the d tuned guitar and parallel harmony of that fella' has put this at the top of acoustic perfection. All in front of an outhouse. Melodic perfection.....words from a breaking heart.
holy S*$t. Stumbled upon this video by pure accident. Have listened to it already four time and am totally spellbound. You are BRILLIANT. everything is perfect. Pitch, tone, all of it!!!! My new fav version of this song!
I stumbled upon this too.☺ I'm glad I did, I've always loved this style of music, I searched for the same song and I personally love this one the best.
Best version yet. I searched other musicians of this song and I found that this was my favorite. They both sung it and played it perfectly. Goes well at the end of summer and fall, puts me in a great mood even though it's a sad song. Thank you for posting this !!!
You know you make real music and real art when a simple piece of music turns into a masterpiece with only a few instruments, a beautiful voice and a perfect rythm... And it becomes a true spiritual experience that touches the deepest fiber of the soul of who listens to it. Sublime! 🙏🏻💚🎻🎸😊🤗
This is one of the best versions of this fine ballad i have ever heard. Thanks so much for sharing it with the world. Ya'll kick ass. Keep up the good work, and keep those vids coming!
The way you preform this beautiful song is my favorite of all. Thank You Kindly for the Love and Light and Peace this song brings to te world! Love and Light and Peace and Song to you! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Amazing- you two have captured the soul of this beautiful song more perfectly than any I've heard, and I must have heard a hundred people play their own version of this one. Absolute perfection, this must be what the first person who sang "The Blackest Crow" had in his heart! Bravo!!!!!!!
I am so very glad and lucky that I came across these two young people playing such a beautiful song so beautifully. The fiddle playing is hauntingly beautiful and so well done. It really touched my soul.

I didnt even know they was yankee, till I seen this comment then I looked in the description. I was on another page and it sounded like home singing to me from the mountains.
You guys are the most wonderful group in the world. You have a penetrating voice that touches my heart, I can't stop listening, and so much talent playing the instruments. I wish I could meet you. You two are great!!!

Same here. The drone. I've been coming back here for years now.
Wow. That's such a moving rendition. So deeply beautiful in a time when so many folks seem to feel compelled to play old-time tunes at breakneck speed.
When I discovered old-timey music in 1983, I concluded that much of bluegrass music was old-timey, played as fast as one can!
Appalachian people are so beautiful. They may be faced with hardship, but they make such beauty out of it. Much love from the Rockies.

Really amazing music. This is what another's soul sounds like - passed down over generations. You are hearing history.
younger generations need to hear this type of poetry more often!
Exactly. Well put.
Amen. Very well said.
