Body guy friend of mine did up a '67 2+2 428 4 speed coupe. Hard to believe a car that big could be that quick. Couldn't believe it when he sold it, he never told me for how much
My friend in high school had a 67 2+2 manual hard top. I think it was a 421. He let me drive it a few times. Very impressed with it. How smooth the engine was even taking off in other gears than first. I am a Pontiac enthusiasts, but back then I was into camaros and after high school bought a 69 Z/28. But now I would rather have the 2+2
Looks like N code burgundy and 8 lug aluminum wheels. Such a lucky find. 1989 I found a 67 GTO convertible 4 speed. It was 1 of 56 ram air convertibles that were ordered with the ram air RPO. It was N code burgundy with Rally 1 wheels. It was bone stock.
Sounds beautiful! I remember we had one in Marin (county) it had an amazing white interior. 4 speed, no console. I can’t remember if the carpet was burgundy or black. I remember seeing it at “Safeway” as late as 1979. I used to “Drool “ over that car every time they drove it in to get their groceries. I also can’t remember if it was a 389 or a 400. But she sounded sweet, I think I remember he told me he had put glass packs on it. That sounded so amazing that I put them on my Firebird. I can still hear the sound of mine to this day, even though it’s long gone.
How in Gods name does someone let something like this set outside on dirt for 50 years?! It's one thing to be in a shed or barn, but just on dirt in the wide open... I can't beleive someone hasn't been trying to buy it the last 40 years. It's going to take a cubic ton of money and time to restore this one; and this one deserves to be restored. I would put this up with a similarly optioned Sport Fury, 7 Liter Ford, Impala SS big block, Wildcat, or Starfire, maybe Cutlass. But this is RARE.
Sad thing is that it really needs a 100,000 dollar restoration. After that it's anyone's guess as to the value. One thing for certain there were probably only 10 or 15 of these built with 4 speeds. Back in 69 My Dad had a 69 Catalina with the HO 428 and it could light the tires from the line until you hit 76 mph. When he looked into how many were built with that HO 428 it was something like 1728 cars.
Not all of the 67' Pontiacs have that same front end. I really like the front end on your car and the Bonnevilles of that same year. Good job man, that is gonna be a gem and not a moment too soon.
The "428" Dealer upgrade was available for the1967 G.T.O. and the "428" emblems were placed in the same locations (Fan shroud & front of the Console) as the Catalina.
I had a friend who passed 2 years ago and he had two 67 cat 2+2s one was a 428 HO 4speed convertible and the other was a 428HO 4 speed coupe both were matching light blue with white interior. The convertible was said to be worth about $150.000 and the coupe was said to be worth about $140.000. Man they were beautiful and very fast.
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺. That is awesome & super super rare, not rare super super rare. Hope it gets the love it deserves it & see it at MCACN one day. THE 67 pontiac. The convertible is cool and super rare. The hardtop is super cool too. 2+2 Catalina Ventura most people don't know this car or why it is so special.
I want to see every update on this ride. I subscribed! I had a 69 Firebird that the previous owner dropped a 428 in (I think from a Bonneville). Also with a 4 speed. I still think of that car from my youth. Oh the memories. So, now I’d like to live vicariously through you and this build.
It's a good thing it doesn't have a scissor top, those are a bugger to do. I just hope you can get all the parts it's going to need off the shelf, or through a 'NOS' parts dealer. My Brother-in-Law had an auto upholstery shop in Burton, Michigan and I worked there for a few years, up until he passed on. Many custom car and truck builders had him do their vehicles, the shop's name was Kimball's Auto Trim. For what it's worth, I've subbed, left a thumbs up, and a tap on the bell, I hope to see some of your works too. Thanks for sharing.
I had a 67 Grand Prix hidden head lights 400 black vinyl top and linden green was a way cool car yours is the same body size probably fenders seats would be interchangeable
I had a Canadian version of this, 2+2 Pontiac Parisienne convertible. Bought mine in 1988, in Vancouver, BC, fixed up some collision damage, but sold it when closer inspection showed the frame near the rear suspension was rusted through. Very rare and very cool car.
In the early 2000s i bought a 67 428 4sp off a guy in PA for 700 bucks , he told me it came out of a pontiac convertible, i dont remember if it was a Bonneville or Catalina but supposedly it was the only one that had that drive train , the guy owned a body shop and a bunch of old Pontiacs he was restoring a 57 fuelie Bonneville convertible at the time
Definitely was awsome in its day. That's the good news. The bad news is that it was junked for a reason, the full size GM cars in the mid 60's were notorious for their box frames trapping water & rusting out prematurely, and finding replacement body & interior parts for a rare car like this will be very difficult if not impossible. Parked outdoors over dirt and without protection of a top would have further accelerated rust on the frame, floor pans, trunk floor, and inner rear wheel wells. Obviously a proper restoration would cost a fortune if could even find anyone willing to take on such a difficult & time consuming project.
My uncle had a parts lot in Hillsdale, IN and had a 1967 Catalina 428, 4 spd, two door hardtop that I tried to buy from him and he would not do it. He would never tell me why. It ended up getting crushed.
I got several 428 engine cars I would say your cars probably got Posi traction to it being a 2+2 I’ve got a 67 Bonneville convertible 428 engine and it’s got a pause the traction rear end I’ve had several with that cool cool car
Great now if you could find my Pontiac 428 4 bolt main 4 speed convertible in Blue and White top With Hood Tack that got stolen out of Halstead Kansas I’d love you for it
I had a 67 Pontiac station wagon 390 hp 428 with a four speed if you looked in the driver door it looked like a gto bucket seats console, pulled the engine and transmission and junked it. If a guy only knew!
When Pontiac offered the 428 it was only offered in the Catalina and GTO and all were Special order and ALL were 4-speed cars! They were offered in 67,68, and 69 ONLY!
I believe the 428 was available in the Gran Prix models as well, my uncle had a 68 GP 428 A/T, burgundy with black interior, and my brother-in-law had a 69 GP , SJ 428 A/T, which was one fast car. Not sure about your statement authenticity, but these cars were available w 428. Also I have never seen a GTO with a 428, not saying they didn't exist, just never seen one.
non AC model, not a deal breaker but its definitely a plus cuz you can drive the southwest in the heat and survive .. they have aftermarket for sure, someones did some stuff to it that badge isn't stock, valve covers air filter all that is not stock, go find a genuine model fully intact you will see what you need to find, sure hope you find it all... WOW also some did have 4 wheel disk brakes as well .. something else to hunt down to make her very complete, if it didn't come with em . . but it was available so if not hunt it down! big feature disk brakes are .. tach is available new . .
Only 280 convertible 2+2's were built in 1967. 261 were ordered with the High Output engine and only 144 H.O. cars were equipped with the 4 speed. Other added options could make it even more rare!! Ya, it's pretty rare. I'd say it deserves a concourse resto and brought back to its original condition. Anything less would be a travesty! It could potentially be a six figure car.
I dont know man, now that youve pulled it out it looks pretty spent. With a body with that kind of rust id hate to see the frame and underside of the chassis.
What a crime. 50 years out in the elements, old man never thought to put a roof over it? I'd say get a clean, low optioned donor car. I admire the enthusiasm, but classic car restoration isn't for the working man anymore. That Pontiac is a dozen ten thousand dollar projects. $10k in paint, $10k in chrome, $10k in drivetrain, $10k in interior...

Amazing all the wheels roll after 50 years in the dirt. Drums are probably good to turn. Enjoy your project.
