    It's one of the first video with the PROPER thechnic i've seen. It's always smooth, focused on not harming your shoulders, it's taught the way it should be taught. Great tutorial.

    Your explanations are among the very best ones around. In fact your videos are the only ones which I see over and over again. To afterwards practice the tecniques in the water myself. I learned a lot of you, thanks!

    Awesome video(s). I have learned to roll purely from watching these clips and then going out and practicing. Even now that I can actually roll I still watch them closely and pick up pointers to improve. Lately I have found how critical the 'Hip Snap' is, once you get the hip snap working it makes life a LOT easier! Cheers.

    Thats a brilliant video. For someone who has been learning and practicing rolling of late, with mixed success, this video has some excellent tips for me to add to my next practice session.
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    I can't do rolls at all. I've only had 2 lessons. I was kayaking today and kept going upside-down and almost drowning. I couldn't work out how to get the spray deck off so was just thrashing around in the water. Somehow I survived, and it was great fun! I want to do it again!

    You don't necessarily need thigh pads or knee pads to roll, but they certainly help. Think of any of these accessories as they are, points of contact with the boat, the more points, the more control you exhibit on the craft you are paddling. I rolled in a kayak without extra outfitting by bracing my knees against the sides of the boat. With that being said, the extra points of contact make the roll much easier.

      Expert kayakers can roll with their hands, and some can do with one hand, while a true expert can actually roll a kayak with no hands at all!

    Just curious, is it physically possible to roll a fully loaded kayak which out doing major body damage?

    • @22Wattie
      @22Wattie 6 лет назад +3

      Hi Roddy, yes it is. In-fact if you load your kayak correctly with the heavier items loaded at the bottom then it is far easier to roll a loaded kayak compared to an unloaded kayak. You must make sure that all your loaded items are tightly locked into place. This also ensures that the load can't shift when in rough waters.

    what if you roll in a kayak without a spray skirt on? is it possible to roll back up or will you fall out?

    • @phoenixamaranth
      @phoenixamaranth 7 лет назад

      You would fall out 99% of the time and the amount of water that your kayak would take on would sink it and make it too hard to roll as well.

    • @OceanDharma
      @OceanDharma 5 лет назад

      Yes you can roll it without a skirt. I've rolled solo whitewater canoes just fine, I bail the water out after recovery. Skirt or no skirt, your knees bracing on the inside are what keeps you in the craft. My canoe had thigh straps. Once you are upright in a skirtless kayak, fully swamped kayak has little or no stability, so you could easily roll up but then keep going right over. You would need to be skilled at bracing with your paddle, while at same time pumping water out of your cockpit fast as you can. The bow and stern of a good kayak would have separate bulkheads, so not all of the kayak would be flooded.

    Its much easier to fall out of a kayak than to stay in, while you're down under.

    Wish I could have seen this video before I took a course in rolling. The course was fairly unhelpful. After studying the video, I rolled on my third try without an instructor.
